Journey back through time, to a better age, where the days start early and the people are one with nature. Rodrigues, the smallest island of the Mascarene archipelago, is a sparsely populated yet autonomous territory, five hundred kilometres off the coast of Mauritius. Rodrigues has a rich culture, the highlight being its cuisine, with influences from Africa, Europe and Asia. It is indeed a culinary paradise with unique chilli paste combinations and the freshest seafood you will ever taste! Let’s not forget the local delicacies: sun-dried octopus and salted fish. The capital, Port Mathurin, attracts many with its picturesque marketplace, packed with handcrafted souvenirs, trinkets and local dishes. Despite its relatively small size (108 km2) and the lack of touristic developments, Rodrigues remains a tropical paradise for adventure-seekers, nature lovers or anyone looking to sit back and relax. The island harbours the unique Francois Leguat Giant Tortoise and Cave Reserve, the highest zipline in the Indian Ocean and even hosts international kite surfing festivals and mountain bike competitions. With its quaint charm, slow-paced lifestyle and joy of living of the locals, Rodrigues will undoubtedly seduce and is the ideal destination to get away from the rat race and humdrum of first-world living.

Set on the north-western coast of Rodrigues, Pointe Nicolas is a remote and untapped haven of natural beauty. The undulating mountainous backdrop, vast green plains and never-ending azure ocean make this spot a typical postcard picture. Pointe Nicolas also has a stunning view of two islets just off the coast of Rodrigues: Ile aux Cocos and Ile aux Sables. The location is sheltered from the trade winds by the central ridge and benefits from a serene tropical climate. It takes only fifteen minutes to get to the airport in Plaine Corail and twenty-five to the capital, Port Mathurin. Perfectly secluded except for the small winding roads that hint at a nearby civilisation, Pointe Nicolas could be the ideal setting for a desert island movie!
