There is something special, almost magical even, about the feeling you get when you first arrive at Fisherman’s Walk for the Shake & Stir Festival. The green grass, trees that make dappled patterns on the gorgeous classic cars as the sun comes through. The yummy smells from bakers and hot food caterers as you follow the winding pathway through the trees towards where you can hear the music playing. The opportunity to feast your eyes on all the fabulous vintage and artisan traders who are waiting just for you.

….. and then the highlight – the Bandstand! The place where music comes alive, where people dance on the pavement, on the grass and where they are sitting because it makes them feel good and glad to be alive after such strange times. I would like to welcome you to the Shake and Stir Vintage Music Festival 2022 and hope that you enjoy every moment. We have live music from the 1920’s to the 1970’s – rockabilly, rock’n’roll and swing feature heavily so if you like a good beat you are in the right place. To get you ‘in the mood’ why not come dressed up to suit the era of your choice? We have a competition sponsored by the Grove Tavern so you might go home with a prize for your efforts! Once here you can go and get your hair and make up done, browse all the vintage fashion – pure and inspired – find some accessories, have your photo taken beside a pink Cadillac. This year we have a children’s area with some fun little rides, traditional swing boats

and a test your strength hammer taking you back to bygone days. Face painting and henna artists are on hand to brighten your day. For the first time we have a DJ Booth with our fabulous DJ Andy Shailer playing cool vinyl records – doing it the real way. But the centre of the event is always the Bandstand! For the second year running we have our star DJ Mr D! who will be looking after you and introducing all the bands and entertainers over the two days of the festival. I’m very excited to bring some new faces to the event this year and hope you enjoy! No free community event like this can ever happen without a team of rather wonderful people coming together to keep this lovely event alive – thank you all! Friends of Fisherman’s Walk www.fishermanswalk.co.uk A community group of volunteers dedicated to improving the environment of Fisherman’s Walk and facilitating its use and enjoyment by the community.

At Stir events we are working towards making our events as green, sustainable and eco-friendly as possible. It’s definitely a ‘work towards’ list but we are on the journey. • • • • • •

We encourage all food packaging to be made from either wood, paper/cardboard or leaves and this includes straws. Fish, charcoal, and wood must be from a certified sustainable source. All traders must take their waste home with them. We have recycling bins in locations across the Walk plus non recycling bins. We source local traders and love to work with artisans who make local foods and goods We have recently become Ambassadors for Sustainable Palm oil and will encourage those trading and working with us to use it.

An eco-friendly event is one that is all about the effect and influence of the event on our planet The world is a wonderful place – if we can help a little by making our events as sustainable as possible then we feel we are on the right track – but we are always open to suggestions.

We are lucky to have the Dorset Devils as our Waste Partner – you will see them in high vis jackets around the event site – constantly keeping the Walk clean and helping us to manage our recycling. 2022 SHAKE & STIR

Southbourne on Sea

Southbourne with its selection of independent boutique shops and chic restaurants and bars is an urban village set between Bournemouth and Christchurch. Originating from 1871 as a potential health resort for the Victorians, the historic architecture remains, creating a characterful high street with nearby parks making for a pleasant day out of shopping, lunch, and coffee. In the evenings, the area is a popular bustling destination to visit the wide range of independent restaurants from Italian to Middle Eastern with a great selection of bars and micro-breweries with their live music, quiz nights and tasting masterclasses. We are so lucky to be right on the coast and have award winning golden sandy beaches. In a nod to the Victorian history, there is a funicular rail lift which runs from the cliff top down to the beach below. Fisherman’s Walk is a natural woodland walk which stretches from the cliff top to the shopping area of Southbourne Grove. It has its own Bandstand often used for live music events. Fancy staying a few nights? We have a lovely choice of hotels or bed and breakfast all within a short walk of shops and beaches.
