Tony has been employed at the Wimborne site since 1985 establishing an in-depth knowledge of the products and the operations in their entirety. Despite the recent global challenges, over the last year the company launched the new Cat® C4.4 electronic genset and electronic auxiliary engine. The new Cat C7.1 auxiliary was launched in January. “These new additions to our product portfolio will enable us to continue to offer competitive solutions to our customers’ requirements” observes Tony.
Caterpillar Marine Power UK Ltd employs approximately 115 people and the facility is 5,055 square metres. The Wimborne facility manufactures marine propulsion engines from 86 hp to 500 hp, marine auxiliary engines and marine electrical generators from 10 eKW to 200 eKW under the Cat and Perkins® marine brands. Caterpillar Marine products are used in oceangoing (cruise and cargo), high performance (pleasure craft, military, and fast ferry) and workboat (offshore, tug and salvage, passenger, inland waterways, fishing, and dredging) applications.
Aware of the opportunities ahead, Tony comments: “I am looking forward to leading the facility and our dedicated team as we embark on the next chapter in the history of the Wimborne facility.”

Our life’s work is not always what we do to make money, although we often think it should be.
The way we discover our purpose and life’s work is by how we feel when we are doing it. When we are doing our life’s work, we feel a strong sense of belonging. This doesn’t mean that the work is always easy and is the only work we must do; it just means that there is a feeling that we are on the right track. When we are engaged in our life’s work, we feel more alive, because our energy is devoted to a cause that, in turn, stimulates us. This may be tiring, but we are almost never depleted. We feel connected with the world, knowing that we have something important to offer.
I know that I feel most alive and energised when I am working on projects that are about improving a place or community through regeneration, creativity, and culture.
Most of us remember a time when we felt fully engaged in some act of work or creativity, and it is here that we may rediscover the work we are meant to do. On the other hand, it may be time to find out what really inspires us by getting involved in a project or just doing whatever it is we have always wanted to try. We all have callings, and when we find them, we owe it to ourselves to explore them, because while they may not be our livelihood, they are the keys to a happy life.
