10 famous visits in the 4Dorset area – were you there?

Over the years the editor at mags4dorset has been invited to a great many events involving famous people. Here are 10 of her most memorable occasions. She took the photographs at these events, unless otherwise stated.

2002 (Summer) Gary Lineker took part in the AllissMerlo pro-celebrity golf tournament at Ferndown Golf Club.

2009 (Summer) HM The Queen visited Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy. Photo by Gareth John.

2010 (Summer) Stavros Flatley headlined Ferndown Carnival and attracted thousands of spectators.

2012 (Spring) Princess Anne accepted an unusual hellebore from Cherry Tree Nursery, a Sheltered Work Opportunity Project, where she opened the new volunteers’ tearoom.

2012 (Summer) Prince Charles met Team GB’s Ben Ainslie at Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy. Ainslie went on to win gold in the London 2012 Olympic Games, bringing his total number of Olympic golds to four. He was knighted in 2013.

2015 (Summer) Sir Tom Jones and comedian Bill Bailey headlined the 25th Larmer Tree Festival.

2015 (Summer) BBC’s Flog It! held a valuation day at Highcliffe Castle. Those present included Paul Martin, Adam Partridge, Christina Trevanion and Philip Serrell.

2017 (Autumn) The cast of The Brittas Empire revisited Ringwood Leisure Centre where the BBC TV sitcom was originally filmed in the 90s. Photos by Tom Scrase.

2018 (Spring) Titan the Robot drew a large crowd to Verwood Carnival. He did the same in July 2011 at Ferndown Carnival.
