CHAIR OF DIRECTOR’S INTRODUCTION MESSAGE On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to welcome all those staff who joined us in September. We wish you well and ask God to bless you as we journey together in the best interest of the children and young people in our MultiAcademy Company. One of our new members of staff is Dr John Pye, who as Executive Headteacher and Assistant Director of Secondary School Improvement, will share his time between Trinity Catholic School in Leamington and St Augustine’s Catholic School in Redditch from January 2024. Directors give thanks for and congratulate those longer serving staff who have been recruited to new and challenging roles in our Multi-Academy Company. Amongst these are Headteachers, Mr Owen Finnegan and Mrs Katie Wilkes. We are grateful that both will take on Executive Head Teacher roles in January and delighted that this has enabled members of their individual Leadership Teams to be promoted to Principal roles. Both Mr Finnegan and Mrs Wilkes led their schools respectively through successful OFSTED and CSI inspections this Autumn and have much to offer on our journey to excellence. Our excellence has already been evidenced in many different ways over the course of this term, not least in the improvements at pace in Trinity Catholic School, the Ofsted judgements at St Mary’s in Studley, the outstanding judgement given by the CSI Team to St Gregory’s in Stratford, the opening of the beautiful New Build at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School in Broadway and the many charitable and parish events our children and young people have taken part in. The growing links with our parishes are very important to us and we thank you for all the work you do in school to strengthen these.

“As we prepare our hearts for Christmas, bring us closer to each other and to your son”

We have a lot to be proud of and to celebrate. On behalf of the Directors I thank each of you for all that you do to make our multi-academy company the vibrant and joyful community it is. We join with you in our Daily Prayer and Reflection during Advent and pray that you may experience the nearness of the Christ Child in your hearts, mind and soul this Christmas. May it be a blessed and happy Christmas with your families. Mrs Yvonne Brennan Advent Prayer Father in Heaven, your son, Jesus, is your greatest gift to us, a great sign of your love. Guide us as we strive to walk in that love together as a family this Advent. As we prepare our hearts for Christmas, bring us closer to each other and to your son. 2

‘OUTSTANDING’ CSI INSPECTION St. Gregory's Primary School Shines in Outstanding Catholic School Inspection

MRS K. WILKES EXECUTIVE HEADTEACHER

It is a privilege to be the Headteacher of St. Gregory's and I am very proud to share the outstanding outcome of our recent Catholic Schools’ Inspection. At St. Gregory’s, we are a team: we support one another, with Christ at the centre of all that we do, ensuring that nobody is left behind. Every young person is valued as a unique member of God's family, and it was pleasing to see how this was celebrated throughout our inspection report.

“We’re really proud of the teachers and the pupils that put so much hard work into making this school the best place it can be. At St. Gregory’s, we love, learn and grow with Jesus.” -Head Boy and Head Girl

OUR LADY OF THE MAGNIFICAT

In an exciting turn of events, St. Gregory's are celebrating a well-deserved victory as they receive an "Outstanding" grade in their Catholic school inspection. The outcome of this inspection is an inspiring example of what can be achieved when a school combines academic excellence with a strong foundation in Catholic values. As they celebrate this achievement, St. Gregory's remains dedicated to their mission of providing an outstanding education to each pupil in their care.

BROADWAY’S GRAND OPENING St. Mary’s Catholic Primary School in Broadway celebrated its brand-new building, holding a lively grand opening event to express the excitement for the school’s fresh start. The Executive Headteacher, Jackie Smith, introduced the event of laughter, joy and smiles, as staff participated in the uplifting celebrations in honour of the renovation. The day involved many thrilling events with everyone gathered around in joy, including: a ribbon cutting, a visit from Father Christopher Draycott blessing the new building, a speech from the Executive Headteacher and a special performance of hymns, prayers and speeches delivered by the children. In line with the core mission of Our Lady of The Magnificat multi-academy, Father Christopher Draycott attended the event to remind the children to thank God for all the opportunities in life, by blessing the building and reading out prayers to bring everyone together. The pupils showed their appreciation by performing hymns, reading out prayers and sharing their feelings about what the new classrooms mean to them and their future at this school.

“We’re so lucky to have these new classrooms, it is like a fresh new start.” -St. Mary’s Catholic Primary School pupil

“Our children now have a learning environment that matches their talents and aspirations” -Miss J Smith, Executive Headteacher 5

NGA AWARDS 2023 Outstanding Governance Professional: recognised as top 1% Nationally We are delighted that our Multi-Academy Company Governance Professional – Becky Perkes – was a finalist in the 2023 National Governance Association (NGA) Outstanding Governance Awards in the category of ‘Outstanding Lead Governance Professional’. The awards are held every two years recognising governing boards for their contributions to school and trust governance in England. The award for ‘Outstanding Lead Governance Professional’ recognises those leading and managing governance in academy trusts.

“These finalists are excellent role models, who are value driven leaders, who have helped foster a culture of effective and ethical governance in their organisations” Becky was nominated for this award by two of our directors – Vicci Wells and Yvonne Brennan. The rigorous judging process recognised Becky’s significant contribution to embedding a governance infrastructure across the multi-academy since she joined in September 2022, providing clarity on roles and responsibilities for the various layers of governance within the trust and for the professional relationships she has fostered with all involved in governance. Judges noted that she has been “instrumental in introducing innovative practices and ideas” and that “as a result of her approach, the multiacademy has seen a significant improvement in the quality of governance”. Emma Balchin and Emma Knights, Co-Chief Executives, NGA said: "The commitment and contribution of those governing our schools and trusts is often overlooked, their hard work usually carried out behind closed doors. NGA’s Outstanding Governance Awards offer an opportunity every two years to celebrate the very best in school and trust governance practice and share it far and wide. The awards contribute to our Visible Governance campaign, which champions the role and impact of good governance on schools and the education their pupils receive.” 6

OUR LADY OF THE MAGNIFICAT

Lynne Howard, Chair of Trustees, NGA said: "The achievements of our 2023 finalists are set against a backdrop of such an exceptional and difficult time for our schools and wider communities. Since the pandemic, governors, trustees and governance professionals have continued to work tirelessly alongside leaders to support their staff, pupils and families. We come together to celebrate that extraordinary dedication and commitment not just of our winners but the quarter of a million volunteers in the state school sector." John 10:10 The awards were presented by Lynne Howard of NGA and Alex Marsh from DfE at a ceremony on 28 September 2023 at the House of Commons. Becky said “It was a privilege to be nominated for this award, and to attend the awards ceremony representing Our Lady of the Magnificat. Our Directors, Local Governors, Clerks and School Leaders work closely together and are committed to delivering strong and effective governance of our schools, underpinned by our core values and our ambition to deliver the best possible outcomes for all our children and young people. It is a pleasure to work with such a dedicated group of individuals and I look forward to continuing to develop and strengthen the governance of our multi-academy.”

“Our finalists each show outstanding leadership and have had a demonstrable impact on governance compliance, efficiency and effectiveness across a number of schools.” -NGA judging panel

160TH ANNIVERSARY FUN St. Mary’s Catholic Primary School, Studley 160th Anniversary Celebrations Thank you to everybody who contributed to making our school’s 160th anniversary a special day. A lot of time and effort went into preparing the day. After an initial assembly the teachers then delivered some specially prepared Victorian themed lessons. It is amazing to think that our school has been in existence for such a long time supporting Catholic and non Catholic families through depressions, world wars, pandemics and much more. Our older children have also had a chance to look at the school's log books which are real historical artefacts documenting the story of the school written by the 15 previous headteachers who came before. The children had a great day and a big thank you to all the parents who spent time making such wonderful costumes. Here’s to the next 160 years! -Owen Finnegan, Headteacher

“I learnt a great deal about the history of our school. I can’t believe some of the children had it so hard in the past!”

-TW Year 5.

“It is really important to celebrate these events to reflect on the important role our school has played for generations, over the years. We should be rightly proud the part our school has played in the historical development of Studley.”

COFFEE MORNING SUCCESS! St. Mary’s Catholic Primary School in Evesham Raise An Amazing £456 for St Richard’s Hospice Children from St. Mary's Catholic Primary School in Evesham recently held a fundraising Coffee Morning in aid of St. Richard’s Hospice in Worcester. This is an annual event in their school calendar, even during lockdown they continued to support the hospice, by hosting a 'Virtual Coffee Morning'! They had wonderful support from their parents and families, both in attending and enjoying this event, as well as providing help and some delicious cakes! They are always keen to fundraise for St. Richard’s Hospice and if tea, coffee and cakes can be enjoyed at the same time, then it is a definite win-win. Pupils are always very keen to join in with the fun, so when tables became available in the hall, they all joined, class by class and enjoyed their very own opportunity to have some refreshments and 'a natter' with friends. They were delighted to welcome Ria Simons, one of the St. Richard’s Hospice Fundraising Team, to their Tuesday Prayer and Liturgy. Ria talked about how important their fundraising efforts were, also how the money they raised will go towards helping those who most need support. In turn, we were delighted to be able to hand over a cheque for a magnificent £456.00!

St. Richard’s Hospice care for people with serious progressive illnesses who have complex needs which cannot be met by other services. These include cancer and neurological, respiratory, cardiac and renal conditions. Not only do they fight to care for those suffering from serious illnesses, but they also provide support to their loved ones during such difficult times. St. Mary’s Catholic Primary School were eager to contribute towards the fundraising for such an important organisation and they were able to bring light, positivity and community to such an important cause, by coming together to show their support. St. Mary’s Catholic Primary School demonstrated that when a community comes together in compassion, a huge difference can be made to change the lives of others.

ST BENEDICT’S BIG SLEEP OUT! St. Benedict's Catholic High School Partners with St. Basil's for a ‘ Big Sleep Out’ in Support of the Homeless On Friday 1st December, staff and students from St. Benedict’s Catholic Sixth Form took part in St. Basil’s Big Sleepout at Millennium Point, Birmingham. During the event, participants were issued with a cardboard box and slept outside for the night to try and experience a little of what young homeless people in our region encounter. A Sikh charity, Khalsa Aid, provided hot food and drinks to all participants to try and keep them warm in the sub zero temperatures. St. Basil’s are a charity who work with young people of aged 16-25, who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. They support them to find and keep a home, grow their confidence, develop their skills, increase opportunities and prevent homelessness. The Sixth Form students chose to partner with St. Basil’s and participate in this event to show their support and raise money in order to make a physical difference to the cause. St. Benedict’s were able to raise over £1,500 to support the cause through their contributions, which exceeded their goal. All the staff and students are grateful for this support from their friends, families, colleagues and wider Magnificat family. By supporting the cause with their participation in the ‘Big Sleep Out’ event, the students of St. Benedict’s Sixth Form were able to gain first hand experience of what life is like for those in poverty and those who are experiencing homelessness. Especially during a positive time like Christmas, it is important to reflect on and support those who are less fortunate than us.

THEIR FINEST HOUR Trinity Catholic School Joins Forces with Oxford University for 'Their Finest Hour' Initiative Last month, members of the Trinity History Group, supported the Leamington History Group who were hosting a digital archive collection day as part of the National Archive Project, ‘Their Finest Hour’ organised by the University of Oxford. Through ‘Their Finest Hour’ project, the University of Oxford is aiming to digitally preserve stories and objects related to Britain and the Commonwealth’s experience during the Second World War. They are doing this through volunteers and crowdsourcing, with everything collected going into a free to use website to be launched on 6 June 2024. All material collected will also be digitally preserved on Oxford’s digital archive systems. Trinity Catholic School students spent the day interviewing members of the public about their war time experience and transcribing their accounts, which will be uploaded to the digital archive. One of our Year 11 students had the unforgettable experience of interviewing an 100 year old Lancaster Bomber Pilot. The students’ contribution was acknowledged by the Leamington History Group in the local press and media. The students were able to learn a lot and gain a once in a lifetime experience learning all about the World War, as their involvement in this project not only gave them an understanding of World War history but it also allowed them to empathise with and appreciate those directly affected by the conflict.

“We have now captured over 50 special stories and objects about World War II. We were i joined by the excellent Trinity Catholic School History Students who were involved throughout the day interviewing the public.” -S Bolitho 10

COMMEMORATING REMEMBRANCE Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Primary School’s Heartfelt Remembrance Day Tribute In Year 2, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Primary School pupils delved into the historical significance of Remembrance Day, gaining a deeper understanding of why we commemorate this solemn occasion with poppies. Through engaging lessons and discussions, they explored the stories of individuals who sacrificed their lives during times of war. To visually express their reflections, they painted their own poppies, showing their respect and appreciation. We were extremely proud of our Year 4 Chaplaincy Team who represented Our Lady of Mount Carmel at the MAC Remembrance Day Service held at St. Augustine’s Catholic Primary School. They were excellent ambassadors for our school as they participated confidently and reverently in the service. They also enjoyed meeting children from St. Peter’s, St. Thomas More, St. Bede’s and St. Augustine’s.
