AIR-SOURCE HEAT PUMPS
Why an air source?
Air-source heat pumps are a powerful way to minimise your household’s carbon footprint while also reducing your energy bills and improving your energy efficiency.
As a completely natural, renewable heating source, ASHPs are up to 500% efficient (compared to boilers’ 80%). And with the government’s Boiler Upgrade Scheme as well as an upcoming government ban on fossil fuel boiler installations in new homes by 2025, there’s never been a better time to invest in one.
Air-Source Heat Pumps:
• Can heat both your home and water
• Futureproof and add value to your home.
• Benefit from lower running costs.
• Easy to install, low maintenance, and a long lifespan
• Eligible for government financial support
Government support
Government support means that saving the planet with a new ASHP doesn’t need to cost you the earth. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) can provide you with an upfront capital grant of £5,000 towards the installation of an air-source heat pump, making installing your new lowcarbon energy system simple, fair, and affordable.
(Vouchers are budget-limited and subject to availability.)
A breath of fresh air for your home.
AIR-SOURCE HEAT PUMPS WORK BY ABSORBING HEAT FROM THE OUTSIDE AIR, EVEN IF THE TEMPERATURE IS AS LOW AS -25 °C11.2 kW Mitsubishi Ecodan Air Source Heat Pump installed in Churton, Cheshire
How do they work?
Air-source heat pumps absorb heat from the outside air. This heat can then be used to heat radiators, underfloor heating systems, warm air convectors, and hot water cylinders in your home. Air-source heat pumps work even if the temperature outside is as low as -25°C.
The heat they extract from the air is absorbed into the refrigerant in its liquid state. As the liquid refrigerant is heated by the ambient air, it changes state into a gas, which then passes through the refrigerant circuit and makes its way to the compressor. The compressor then squeezes the refrigerant gas, agitating the molecules and drastically increasing the temperature. This heat is transferred into the water circulating through your heating system.
Evaporation: Heat from the air is absorbed into a refrigerant liquid at the evaporator. Within the evaporator, the heat changes the liquid into a gas.
Compression: The refrigerant gas makes its way around the refrigerant circuit and is squeezed by the compressor, creating a super-heated gas.
Condensation: As the refrigerant travels through the condenser, we extract heat from the superheated gas, which is then forced through an expansion valve, turning it back into its liquid state, ready for the process to start again.

SOLAR PV
Always a bright idea
Why solar PV?
Solar panels (or solar photovoltaic panels) harness the cleanest and most abundant energy source: the sun.
Converting sunlight into electricity, a solar PV system offers a more sustainable and costefficient way to supplement your home’s energy supply and power your home. With quick and easy installation as well as minimal ongoing maintenance, you can reduce your carbon emissions, energy waste, and energy bills in one fell swoop.
Solar PV:
• Reduce energy costs by harnessing clean, green energy.
• A fuss-free, long-term solution
• Easy to install with little to no long-term disruption to your life or local area
• Earn money if eligible for the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG).
How do they work?
Solar panels generate electricity by absorbing the sun’s light. This passes through an inverter and is converted from a direct current into a 240V alternating current, exactly what your home needs to run.
Any surplus electricity can then be sent back to the power grid, where you could receive payment according to the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG), a government initiative that pays homeowners for their surplus energy. Alternatively, excess energy can be stored in your own batteries for later use, allowing you to make the most of your supply.
Solar panels are a convenient solution, as they can be installed on your home and generate power even on overcast days. And there’s no reason they can’t last you for decades. In most cases, they won’t even require any planning permission, making the whole process seamless.

Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) tariffs are a way for homeowners and businesses with solar panels to sell excess electricity back to the grid. The SEG scheme was introduced in 2019 as a replacement for the previous Feed-in Tariff scheme.
Under the SEG scheme, energy suppliers with over 150,000 customers are required to offer at least one tariff option for small-scale renewable generators, such as solar panel owners, who want to export excess electricity to the grid. The tariff rates are set by the energy supplier and may vary depending on the time of day and demand.
To apply for an SEG tariff, homeowners or businesses with solar panels must first ensure that their system is eligible. The system must be installed by an MCS-certified installer and meet certain technical standards, such as having an export meter installed. Once the system
is eligible, the homeowner or business can contact their energy supplier to apply for an SEG tariff.
The application process typically involves providing information about the solar panel system, including its capacity and expected annual electricity generation. The energy supplier will then review the application and, if approved, set up the SEG tariff on the energy bill. The tariff rate may vary depending on the energy supplier and the region, but it is typically higher than the wholesale electricity price.
In summary, the Smart Export Guarantee scheme offers an opportunity for homeowners and businesses with solar panels to earn money by exporting excess electricity to the grid. The application process is straightforward and involves ensuring eligibility and contacting the energy supplier to apply for an SEG tariff.
GROUND-SOURCE HEAT PUMPS
What is a ground-source heat pump?
They work by extracting low-grade energy from the ground. This is then passed across a heat exchanger and transferred into refrigerant gas, which boils at a very low temperature. A compressor is used to increase the temperature even more before this super-heated gas is passed through another heat exchanger. Finally, the higher-temperature heat is transferred into the water circulating through your central heating system.
Due to the size of the equipment necessary and the scope of work needed to install groundsource heat pumps, a certain amount of space is required for the ground loop system. We would be happy to discuss your property’s compatibility over the phone or in person.
Ground-Source Heat Pumps:
• A low-maintenance solution
• Can reduce household bills by up to 50%.
• 450–550% energy efficiency
• Lower your carbon footprint.
Ground-source heat pumps are another innovative way to heat your home
