FOUNDERS STORY

My name is Matthew Klein, I am the Founder and CEO of Magnaboard. As a painting contractor in the early 2000’s, going through the growing pains of establishing my new business, hiring staff and landing large condo and commercial projects, I was dealt a devastating blow during the 2007 housing crisis. The two US banks that were funding the projects went bankrupt.

It was a time of profound uncertainty and personal challenge – I lost everything I had been working toward. As I let go of my staff, borrowing to make sure they were paid out, I wondered what I was going to do next.

I found myself working back on the tools, instead of training and managing projects. While I was crawling around mudding the holes from the nails in the baseboards and then sanding the mud after it dried, I kept kneeling on the exposed nails of the tack strips, making my knees bleed. In that bleak moment, through my under breath complaining and just down right feeling sorry for myself, I had this thought that suddenly transformed into a catalyst of innovation and change.

Why am I doing this? Why is anybody? Why are we taking perfectly good wood and wrecking it, spending all this time, energy, money, and labor? What if there was a better way to install all this trimboard without all this effort ,

That moment sparked the birth of Magnaboard—an idea that took a decade of dedicated research, development, and the securing of patents across the US, Canada, and Europe.

Today, I am thrilled to announce the launch of Magnaboard, a product entirely made in the USA.
