St. Lukie is originally from Lichtenburg but has since been a resident of Klerksdorp, being part of the entertainment scene. He became a DJ because it's great fun; he also loves the feeling of playing and collecting greatly produced music, as its quality is unmatched and overwhelming when you listen to it. As a matter of fact, seeing crowds enjoy beautifully produced and collected music through fashion and expressing themselves is what he enjoys. "I got inspired by the love and passion for music, the gift of discovering new sounds, and the desire to inspire people to dance and feel good about themselves, traveling, playing at great nightclubs, different genres, and maybe doing radio presenting in the near future," said St. Lukie.

"Some challenges in the industry are, at times, sound issues and technical difficulties, which are the most common ones. Overly crowded engagements and music selection, exhausting traveling schedules, and logistical problems, messed up sleep times, and also when you don’t feel well, you still have to play; it does get pretty intense sometimes. To mitigate those challenges, he exercises regularly and eats the correct food; health is wealth. Engaging in time and clearly with promoters/organizers in terms of (riders) agreement on accommodation and equipment utilized."

"Being prepared and flexible, I can overcome those challenges and keep the crowd dancing to my sets," he said.

Collecting music, listening to other DJs, and compilations is how he got started, followed by the creation of demo mixes on cassettes and training on turntables to decide which genre to concentrate on or select to play. Later, as technology evolved, his parents bought him CDJs to practice with. At that time, music was going digital, and records were expensive, and still are.

"Sharing the stage with DJ Christos and DJ Cleo was so exciting and scary at the same time. It was the first big stage, but I came prepared. Though overwhelming, I executed my set and was rewarded with a signed record from DJ QT."

"With 20-plus years under his belt, having a good ear for music and being able to read the crowd are what makes him an expert. His style of play and the image (grey bead) hahaha make him stand out," he said jokingly. "His years playing at various clubs and events around and outside the city have allowed him to develop an extensive knowledge of music genres and trends, allowing him to create unique sets tailored to any audience, which is what makes him stand out."

He has met MIGGS FOR REAL, VINNY DA VINCI, AND DJ CHRISTOS; these are the best in the industry, and there is a lot he learned from those encounters. HEADGROOVES, SKDOG, and DJ NTSHEBE are like mentors to me. I can remember that day like it was yesterday when I was voted to be part of a large event hosted at The Peal Klerksdorp by The Tequila G.A.N.G [The deep Invades Klerksdorp], and being part of DJ NTSHEBE'S BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION. Being part of making an idea possible from the ground through music is something extraordinary, and I am thankful; those are moments that stand out for St. Lukie.

He is constantly updating his music library and also making sure to stay updated with the latest releases and trends in the music industry so that he can provide the best experience for his audience. To do this, he regularly checks streaming services to add to his library. He also receives some exclusives from producers to gauge the crowd's response.

"They started a collaboration called 1st Elevation and Raw Uncut Recordings, run by Abdul Horus, one of the great producers he has met through music. 'Blessed, my brother,' he said.

Some advice: be very firm in this and don’t get discouraged by people who do not recognize your worth. Aspirations for the future are to go into music production.

Finally, practice, practice, and some more practice. Most of all, listen to as much music as you can.

Certainly.TheTopGuzuprojectconsists of12tracksrecordedbySFYSOandLast Phoenix. SFYSO is a Klerksdorp-based rapper from Jouberton who has been involved in music for some time. He worked alongside his peers in ZBSE beforeembarkingonhisownjourneyas a rapper, accumulating a couple of projectsunderhisbelt.LastPhoenix,on the other hand, is a Klerksdorp-based rapper from Kanana, associated with a crew named Genetic Soldiers. They've been active in the underground scene, curatingboombapmusicfromKanana.

Kindly introduce yourselves : how did the duo come about? :

Last Phoenix and I met through events around Klerksdorp, primarily hip-hop sessions. We connected through freestylesandmusic.Ibeganorganizing events, and Last Phoenix and his crew would perform at my events, and vice versa.

DuringCOVID,LastPhoenixandIstarted spending time together, making music and beats. The process continued until 2021 when we birthed the song 'Top Guzu,' though it wasn't recorded then. In 2023, we reconvened and decided to finalize the song, which ultimately evolvedintoafullproject.

You mentioned dropping singles from the project. How has the reception been so far?

We've released singles, and the receptionhasbeenpositive.We'vebeen activelypromotingsinceearlyFebruary, withourfirstsingle'Don'tDie'available on all streaming platforms. We've even shot a music video for 'Don't Die,' with manymoreinthepipeline.

Theinspirationbehindtheprojectstems from the streets. For those who've known me for a while, they're aware of myobsessionwithstreetculture.Ienjoy reflecting the happenings around me through my rhymes and music. Last Phoenix shares the same sentiment. I feltcompelledtotellthestoriesfromJTown, while he conveyed the tales of Kanana. This collaboration aimed to showcase that while our locations may differ, our lifestyles remain similar. Our language might vary, but the essence remains the same after all, we hail fromthesamehood.

Beverley who is from Kanana has a major love for nails and the art, this love is the reason she become a nail technician and another reason was brought about by the fact that she has club fingers, for a long time she was always shy of showing her hands when around her peers so she simply fell inlove with nail art and it has made her feel so confident with her fingers. Meeting new people ,seeing the different type of fingers and hands that God created us with ,and mostly learning everyday how to work with different type of people and their attitude and trying out different types of designs because the industry grows daily is what Beverley enjoys about what she does. To be quite honest I am my own inspiration ,I wanted to come out of shying away from my hands and that alone gave me the love of what I do today Beverleyadded.

Some of the challenges she has gone through is mainly clients some clients are difficult to work with and not easily satisfied so one has to make pretty sure that such clients walk away satisfied and the other challenge is not being able to master certain designs like she mentioned earlier that the industry grows on a daily basis so as a nail technician one has to make sure you practice everyday to master the skill. To overcome all that one needs to learn to be patient with clients and make sure that everyone walks out your salon satisfied and happy with your work ,secondly practice practice and more practice as the sayinggoes"practicemakesperfect

Beverley started very small ,bought a few colors of acrylics and she didn't want her clients to know that she is a self taught nail tech. She took it step by step buying material bit by bit after every paying client, at that time this was actually a side hustle to make extra cash for transport money to go to work She worked at a retail store and did nails part time until the shop was permanently closed, thats where she decided being a nail tech will become her fulltime job. I thank God for asupportivepartnerwhoafterloosingmyjob decidedtofullyequipmewithallthatI needed tostartmysmallsalonGodblesshim.Not forgettingmylovinggrandmaforallowingmeto workfromhergarageGodblesshertoo majorlysosaidBeverley.

Her first experience with a clients was very exciting since she had to put her skill to work. She has earned her strips being in the industry for a full 8 years and counting, so what makes her stand out from others is that her beautiful work which speaks for itself.

She had the chance to do Robert Mpisi's nails she was super nervous, to top it all she had all the attention from the neighborhood at her workplace that day it was a great experience indeed . It taught her that she could do greater than she thought she could and the mother of our very own Jeziel brothers who is now a regularatBeverly'ssalon.

Through hard work she has managed to achieve something tricky in this space which is to create a strong client base that is consistent and through them the business has grown in strides thanks to them. Her greatest milestone is that now she measures up to those nail techs that went to study the art whereas she is self taught, she seldomly gets asked if she studied the craft and those who ask would get shocked by the response that she learnt everything on her own.

Social media sites like YouTube, Tiktok, Pinterest are platforms she is always on because everyday there is a new trending design so that is how she keeps informed. She has not been part of any notable collaborations but she is looking forward to working with local notable people in the beauty space.

Some of her aspaspirations are to one day have franchises all over SA that create jobs for upcoming aspiring nail technicians, also to open a learning institute for whoever wants to become a nail technician. There are some goals and projects but im afraid I cannot blow my horn just as yet hahaha she said
