“To Suffie” Flora Garry 70
“You say you are to sell the boat. All right – I’ll buy her – she’s mine.” The Old Man said, “You’ll get her cheap.” The Negie said, “That’s fine!”
But for the Neig and Zander, For present those days are done. They are fighting for freedom and the ones they love. They are boldly fighting the Hun.

The poem is a lovely tribute to the writer’s parents, John and Mima Cargill and grandparents, Mary and John Cargill, the famous “Sergeant”/Sarge who participated in the rescue by the “Carpathia” of survivors of the “Titanic” disaster, the “Carpathia” being the first boat on the scene of the disaster. It also provides an excellent insight into the different processes involved in line fishing, including sheeling and baiting as well as preparing and working the lines.
