The Lahti region warmly welcomes you to the summer of 2026. Our compact city and its diverse surrounding area offer experiences where nature, events, culture, and local flavours come together –all within easy reach and easy to explore.
Your day might begin with coffee at the market square, continue with a visit to a museum or a bike ride along scenic ridges, and end by the water as the evening sets in. In the Lahti region, memorable moments don’t require long plans – the best experiences are always close by.
We want everyone to feel welcome just as they are. Here in the Lahti region, diversity is seen as a strength and equality is part of everyday life. In 2026, Lahti Pride will take place from May 18–24, and I am delighted to serve as its patron. Pride is an important reminder that everyone has the right to be seen and to be met with respect.
Wishing you inspiring moments in the Lahti region – whether you’re travelling solo, together, or with the whole family. Enjoy the summer, the events, and the surrounding nature – and above all, feel welcome. ■

Explore nature in Geopark landscapes
In the UNESCO-recognized Salpausselkä Geopark area and across the wider Lahti region, geologically significant landscapes blend with fascinating cultural heritage.
PIRUNPESÄ in Hollola is a striking natural formation and a favourite destination for the whole family. In the past, people didn’t yet understand that Pirunpesä was shaped during the Ice Age – instead, they believed the devil himself might dwell there. Today, this cave-like gorge still enchants visitors. Pack some snacks and pause for a moment at a traditional shelter or campfire spot along the way.
On HIIDENSAARI ISLAND in Iitti, the impressive Hiidenvuori rises up to 60 metres above its surroundings. The sweeping views from the top have been admired for thousands of years. You can reach the summit via wooden steps or forest paths formed over time across the island.
KELVENNE, the largest and best-known island in Päijänne National Park, was formed at the end of
the last Ice Age. Its landscape is defined by long sandy beaches, steep ridges and a small kettle lake at its heart. The crystal-clear water of Kelventeenlampi reflects like a mirror and is fed by rain and groundwater rather than the surrounding lake. A scenic 9 km esker trail runs across the island, which can be reached by ferry, boat, kayak or water taxi.
The ROCKING STONE OF ONKINIEMI is another fascinating Ice Age remnant. In earlier times, locals believed a giant had tossed the massive boulder into place along Highway 4. Resting atop solid rock, the stone appears as though it could roll onto the road at any moment. According to legend, it once moved slightly when pushed, though it was later secured in place in the 1960s.
LEMMENHARJU NATURE TRAIL (4 km), starting near the Vierumäki Sports Institute, takes you through landscapes shaped by ancient glaciers. The route circles Ahvenlampi, known for its clear waters and a small floating island. The trail is easy

The road crossing the bridge is part of one of Finland’s most beautiful scenic routes. After crossing, park near the summer kiosk and explore the Pulkkilanharju Nature Trail (4.4 km). Informational signs along the trail share insights into the area’s geology and nature.
LAHTI’S WELLBEING FOREST invites you to slow down and reconnect with nature. EXPERIENCE
A Summer Full of Encounters
The Speciality shops, cafés and restaurants make Sysmä town centre a summer paradise larger than its size. The summer is full of wonderful events, including Sysmä Suvisoitto festival celebrating its 40th anniversary. At the old Osuusmeijeri co-operative dairy shop you'll find both new and vintage treasures. The market event series is crowned by the traditional Uotinpäivät, held on the last weekend of July.
