Property & Construction | Stehr Brothers
Three decades of quality craftsmanship Adaptability and versatility have been the keys to Stehr Brothers longevity in the construction business. In an industry where companies come and go like ships passing in the night, Stehr Brothers have been operating for more than 30 years at the top of their game because of the diversity of their areas of expertise. The Stehr Brothers' business partnership began in 1985, when Wok Stehr returned to New Zealand, after living for a number of years on Norfolk Island, to join his brother Don in a new family enterprise. This dynamic duo have now been working together for over three decades. The mid-1980s was an exciting time to be involved in the construction industry. The economy was strong and the company was able to tackle a variety of projects gaining wide experience across the construction sector. Their reputation as a dependable quality construction company grew throughout the Auckland region.
With changes in legislation and the industry becoming more accountable, Stehr Brothers began to diversify - an approach they continue to this day. From the outset they were known for their expertise in building high-end architecturallydesigned homes. “We normally have at least one of these types of builds underway and have done so for the past 20 years,” says Wok Stehr. “But we also challenged ourselves with entirely different types of projects outside the norm in order to keep our workforce employed.” Those new areas of work include seismic/ earthquake strengthening of a number of Auckland’s commercial buildings, such as banks and supermarkets.
The team at Stehr Brothers has the skills and knowledge to handle all aspects of this type of work, from the foundations to the actual structure of a building. Stehr Brothersis also now an expert in small/ mid-size civil projects and infrastructure. For example, trenching for power and drainage in new sub-divisions, and they are involved with tilt panel commercial construction and multiuse retail and apartment complexes, as well as residential renovations.
