We have recently been producing sample editions of magazines on a variety of digital presses for the QPP audience to consider their next upgrades. This has been so well received that we are going totally digital over the summer months. Leading by example and by popular demand, digital printed magazines will also be produced inhouse by our readers wanting additional copies for circulation within their print businesses. PDFs in two versions will be sent with the e-zine to all 15,000 + subscribers. Hard copy subscribers will receive a proper printed version in the post as usual, for the residual it will be PYO over the summer editions. Regards Peter, Multi-Media, Foulkes

Xerox Iridesse wins digital press award

Xerox IridesseTM has won a top prize at the 2019 European Digital Press Association Awards, taking home the EDP Cut Sheet Printer Award for Innovation in Digital Production. The Iridesse is the only digital press that can print up to six colours in a single pass with precision and the ability to embellish with decorative metallic, clear and white inks. This provides more design opportunities for digital printers while making it easier for small-sized businesses to embrace special finishes on limited print runs. Selected for achieving a trifecta of industry achievement — cost, efficiency and quality — EDP honoured Xerox Iridesse during Europe’s largest specialty print exhibition, FESPA Global Print Expo, on Wednesday, May 15 in Munich.

“As a creative branding agency our biggest asset is our ideas,” said Ben Glazier of creative agency Glazier Design. “The Xerox Iridesse gives us many opportunities to take new and fresh ideas out to fashion companies, retailers and other industries, who love the impact they can give to their clients, helping them to stand out and make their product better. It offers fantastically quick turnaround time,

which enables us to do swift and efficient work, thereby saving client cost and time.” IPW1 in London was one of the first clients to test the press and the successful trial has been followed by installations across Europe including leading UK commercial printers Hickling & Squires and Hobs Repro, Italy’s Furlan Grafica, Spain’s Adaequo and ByPrint Madrid, Switzerland’s ILG Druck and Benelux’s Printsalon. “The Iridesse is Xerox innovation at full throttle,” said Tracey Koziol, senior vice president of Global Offerings for Xerox. “The Iridesse gives designers and digital printers the ability to diversify their offerings and grow their business with more features, better quality and greater flexibility at lower costs.” Discover more at www.xerox.com

Poplar Services Printers flexible production Poplar Services Printers Ltd has enhanced its landscape booklet production capabilities and increased its application flexibility with a Horizon SPF-200L bookletmaker and two VAC 1000 10 station collators from IFS. Established in 1986 as a B2 litho company, five years ago Poplar Services Printers Ltd switched to fully digital print production. Today the long established high quality commercial printer, specialises in retail and point of sale and offers trade printing as a white label service. Martin Winders, Managing Director, comments: “We invested in a stitch fold trim line when we went completely digital but it became clear we needed something faster that enabled us to be more flexible. We wanted to produce landscape and smaller sized booklets quickly and easily in-house. We also needed something that could smoothly handle laminated booklets. He continues: “We are a forward thinking company and are always considering how we can ensure we are as dynamic and responsive as possible to the needs of our customers. Last year we grew our turnover by 9% and we are hoping to achieve something similar this year. “Investing in the new system means we can complete more work in a faster timescale. For example when we were hand finishing landscape books we could work at about 100 to 150 an hour. Now that figure is around 3,000 per hour. We had one job recently that would have taken seven hours before. This time it took just half an hour.” As for return on investment he states: “It will pay for itself very quickly — between two

to three years — because it allows us to cost effectively handle a lot more work.” Martin did look at what was on the market but chose the Horizon system for its ability to combine stitching and folding as well as handle sheets up to 640mm in length. He also liked the ability to instantly set-up via a large icon based colour touchscreen and the storage of up to 200 jobs. The 4,500bph Horizon SPF-200L joins a

SPEED Campaign ‘SPEED is Canon’s latest campaign to ‘fuel emotion with print’. A real life example, SPEED tells the story of how to amplify artistic exposure through digital print. Centred on photojournalist Horst Friedrichs, the campaign demonstrates how printing powered the creation of his high-quality book and two photographic exhibitions, which celebrated a two decade journey of British subcultures. Friedrichs used this content to create merchandising from magazines, postcards, and posters, to engage audiences and monetise his work. The SPEED campaign offers an inspiring window into what can be achieved with varied implementations of print; harnessing both the emotive resonance of large scale real life images and the intimacy of a book to capture audience imagination.’ www.canon.co.uk

It will run and run. The IFS after sales service is good too.” www.ifsl.uk.com

CreaseStream challenge to Quick Print Pros The creator of the CreaseStream range of digital finishing solutions is putting out a challenge to global digital print solution manufacturers in the form of a free trial of his new product, the Card Creaser Deluxe. Graham Harris wants to find new dealers and is willing to take away any risks and costs of organisations who might be interested to test drive his new product. The Card Creaser Deluxe, according to Graham, outputs around six times faster than any other manual creasing solution in the world market and even reaches output speeds that match many automated solutions. And the real benefit is that it is only priced at around the

£1,000 mark. The UK print innovator, who currently holds over 80 patents for his technology is convinced that the Card Creaser Deluxe will serve as a great creasing solution alternative for those

who are faced with spending several thousands of pounds for a solution they won’t make full use of. He said, “My offer to digital print manufacturers and dealers who don’t have good entry level creasing options to offer their own customers, is to test drive our Card Creaser for free, if it doesn’t work we will get it shipped back to us, it is as simple as that.” Graham Harris can be reached on 01455 5544 91 or by email graham.harris@technifold. co.uk Please see new video of the Card Creaser Deluxe racing against traditional technology through this link www.technifold.com

Colourpoint lifts lamination with Foliant Taurus Bourne End’s Colourpoint is the latest commercial printer to invest in a Foliant Taurus with a Foliant Multi-functional Inprinting Unit for foiling from Intelligent Finishing Systems. Design agencies account for around 80% of the work produced by the ISO9001 and ISO14001 accredited operation that offers both litho and digital print. The remainder is for corporate end-users. “We had an older lamination system and it was time to upgrade,” explains Colourpoint director Karl Hnat. “We reviewed the options on the market and we liked the Foliant for a number of reasons. It is robustly built, can handle a wide range of substrates and is easy to run. It fitted the bill. “We looked at the machine at various trade shows, tested it in the IFS demonstration suite and saw it running at another printer who is producing quality work similar to ourselves.” He continues: “We were regularly sending work out to be laminated. We have reduced that now so it has started paying for itself. People want work completed faster and faster, sometimes next day is not enough. It helps us offer a more responsive service.” The 30 m/min B2+ Foliant Taurus 530 NG features a rising pile back separation stream feeder and a suction paper feed head. Its compact design incorporates feeder, laminator, and a sheet separator in a single construction. Colourpoint is going to build into its service delivery foiling from the Foliant Multi-functional Inprinting Unit. It makes foiling and spot varnish fast and affordable for short run and personalised print. It transforms

output by applying foil or varnish to a pre-printed black toner. The sheet can then be reprinted mono or four colour. It runs a wide range of colours including gold, silver, red and green and a clear gloss for spot varnish. Comments Hnat: “We have traditional foiling capabilities, but the foiling unit allows us to offer cost effective digital foiling on fast turnaround short runs. We can respond to what customers want.” www.ifsl.uk.com

Renault F1 Team chooses TrueVIS VG2 When you’re one of the best car racing teams in the world, you need the very best graphics. That’s why Renault F1® Team has chosen Roland DG’s new TrueVIS VG2, the second-generation eco-solvent print and cut device, to produce its race leading Grand Prix prints. Renault F1® Team has relied on Roland TrueVIS for many years, using the reliable and high quality systems at its Technical Centre in Enstone, Oxfordshire, to produce stickers for its racing cars, livery for its support vehicles, displays for its hospitality areas, and much more. Grand Prix events can attract worldwide audiences of more than 400 million viewers, and sponsorship is as competitive as the races themselves. High end sponsors demand the highest precision in their brand colours and immediate replacement of any damaged advertising graphics; Renault F1® Team always travels with 30 identical versions of every sticker, totalling around 1,400 stickers for every race. Roland has now upgraded the award winning TrueVIS VG Series with over 40 incredible enhancements, allowing Renault F1® Team to push its boundaries for accuracy, reliability and turnaround speeds even further. Those who have seen the VG2 in action describe it as both ‘best printer/ cutter’ and ‘best print device in the industry today’. Designed to meet and exceed the needs of today’s most demanding print professionals, and already proving incredibly popular, the Roland TrueVIS VG2 was expected to attract significant attention at FESPA Joe McNamara, Head of Paint and Graphics at Renault F1® Team, has praised the extended colour gamut, now with bold orange for vibrant colours, natural skin tones and exceptional colour replication. “One of the first things we noticed was the improvement in the colour matching, because a lot of what we do covers an entire season,” he comments. “It gives us a good opportunity to have a consistent colour.” He adds: “It also comes with the new orange swatch which has about a hundred colours in there — yellows and oranges. It really makes our life easy when it comes to matching colours exactly for our corporate sponsors, and also for our own branding on cars, on garages, and on everything we take to races with us.” A video featuring Joe and his review of the new TrueVIS VG2 is available to watch now: www.youtube.com/watch?v=URjA-6sT6Wk. In the video, he notes that the new TR2 inks deliver brilliant bonding and stretching abilities for vehicle wrapping applications, and their fast-drying time allows his team to print, laminate and ship graphics to Renault F1® Team colleagues across the world on the same day. He adds that the VG2’s perf-cut feature is making work “much easier” when producing multiples

New Mimaki JFX200-2513EX Hybrid Services, the distributor for Mimaki inkjet printers and cutting systems in the UK and Ireland, has announced the launch of the new Mimaki JFX200-2513EX — an 8’ x 4’ flatbed LED UV printer that adds additional features and increased productivity to the current line-up. “Mimaki’s JFX200 range has always offered sign makers and print providers the perfect flatbed printing solution, hence its enduring popularity in the UK and Ireland” comments Hybrid’s Chief Operations Manager, Brett Newman. “With the launch of the JFX2002513EX, Mimaki has made substantial speed improvements, as well as adding some highly useful functionality.” Thanks to a new print head configuration, the JFX200-2513EX doubles output speeds when printing with white ink in all print modes and with the addition of a new draft mode, a 280% speed increase, resulting in a maximum speed of 35sq metres per hour. “Higher print speeds take the pressure off time sensitive jobs and help our customers reduce lead times,” states Newman. “With the majority of existing JFX200 printers being commissioned with white ink, the new ‘EX’ model will deliver a powerful solution that will make a difference right at the heart of the graphics printing industry.” Renowned for its high quality of output and the creative potential it offers, the JFX200 Series utilises a combination of white, clear and process inks to print to a vast array of rigid substrates

using Mimaki’s pioneering LED UV curing technology. Its 2.5m x 1.3m print area maximises the potential for printing to industry standard 8’ x 4’ boards and with a head gap of 50mm and maximum media weight of 250kg, it is capable of printing to a wide variety of materials. New features incorporate several of Mimaki’s Core Technologies — proprietary innovations designed to deliver optimum print quality and usability with the minimum user intervention. These include the integration of its NCU and NRS systems for automatically detecting and resolving nozzle firing issues and the company’s MAPS system that through the use of an advanced algorithm, prints optimum gradation patterns on each pass, significantly reducing any ‘banding’ effects in the print. A foot pedal has been added to control the table

vacuum and ethernet connectivity allows remote job messaging and the simultaneous connection of multiple printers. The new JFX200-2513EX will also feature a new ‘2.5D Emboss Print’ mode, enabling multiple layers of ink to be printed to add a three-dimensional effect to the print — adding creative, textured finishes that combine colour and smooth, raised surfaces. “The Mimaki JFX200 is the flatbed of choice for many reasons,” Newman remarks. “The new model is faster, even more reliable and even easier to use and looks set to continue the range’s dominance in the sector.” The Mimaki JFX200-2513EX was launched in Europe at FESPA. Brand new paper matching tool Wigston Paper has launched its ground breaking ‘Paper Lookup Tool’ — a brand new online way for designers to identify the perfect paper match for brand identities and corporate colours. Instead of endlessly searching through myriads of paper swatches or employing a scattergun approach to requesting samples, designers and marketers can simply upload a logo or brand visual identity to the ‘Paper Lookup Tool’ on Wigston’s website. Its software then searches the company’s coloured paper ranges for the closest match against the three dominant colours in the image that has been uploaded. It shows up to three paper colours from each of the different ranges available, including Senses Paper, Gmund Colors and Kaskad Folio. Designers can work from the information given, or can fill in an online form asking for one of the Wigston colour experts to run a human assessment of the brand to complement the results of the Lookup Tool, and send out the most appropriate samples. Wigston Marketing Manager, Kieran Dallow said: “It can be difficult judging colour across different media, but our Paper Lookup Tool takes away the guess work. It’s able to look at electronic copies of logos and brand identities to judge which colours of papers and cards in all our ranges match the colours in the logo, and indicate those matches to the customer. “Customers can then contact us via an online form if they’d like further guidance from our experts or they can request samples direct.”

The aim of the Paper Lookup Tool is to reduce the time and energy designers need to spend on matching and choosing materials and also help them keep up to date with the options as and when Wigston adds new our ranges. Sales Director, Rob Walker said: “Colour is an essential part of brand identity so we want to do all we can to make the paper matching process as easy and as accurate as possible for our customers. By narrowing down the options we can also ensure we only send out the relevant samples, cutting down on unnecessary wastage. Try it out: www.wigstonpaper.com/paper-lookup-tool

HP Stitch S launch The new HP Stitch S series is a portfolio of digital textile printers that deliver fast, precise colour matching, alongside efficient, simplified processes. It is HP’s latest innovation designed to accelerate commercial digital print adoption. “Décor and fashion application trends, on demand production and personalisation are boosting digital print growth,” says Santi Morera, Head of Graphics Solutions Business at HP. “The digitally printed textiles market is experiencing double digit annual growth, forecast to reach $5.5 billion by 2023, according to Smithers Pira. We look forward to more digital print transformations being realised with the arrival of the new HP Stitch S series.” The portfolio of printers couple HP thermal inkjet technology with industry standard dyes for superior colour durability. The first ever built-in spectrophotometer enables Stitch’s fast and exact colour matching. The introduction includes three new printers from 64 inch to 126 inch wide: the HP Stitch S300 64 in Printer, the HP Stitch S500 64 in Printer, and the HP Stitch S1000 126 in Printer. The HP Stitch S300 Printer holds the first user replaceable printhead, resulting in reduced down times and service costs. The HP Stitch

S300 Printer was designed specifically for new to dye sublimation professionals, prototyping departments, and growing print providers. “Our experience with HP Stitch S300 has been much easier and faster than other dye sub printers we’ve previously used. Most printers require manual action in terms of head maintenance and alignment,” says Teunis Roos, Colour Concepts. “The HP Stitch S300 is more proactive and automated when it comes to performance. We’ve experienced a 50 percent reduction in time with the HP Stitch solution.” HP Stitch S500 Printer enables predictable dye sublimation colour and less media waste for production environments. With symmetrical 2xCMYK printhead configuration and Optical Media Advance Sensor, this 64 inch printer

allows for saturated and reliable one pass mode for true top speed. The HP Stitch S500 Printer was designed specifically for high production sites. New HP Dye Sublimation Paper HP has also launched a set of new dye sublimation papers for the new HP Stitch S Printer series. These papers are designed and tested as a system with HP dye sublimation inks and the HP Stitch S Printer series to achieve excellent image quality and colour consistency. The HP Stitch S300 and S500 Printer series, as well as dye sublimation paper, are available now www.hp.com

Esko launches motorised roll feeder Esko, a global supplier of integrated hardware and software solutions for wide format digital print professionals, has announced the launch of a Motorised Roll Feeder for its Kongsberg C64 digital cutting table, developed to deliver accurate and efficient cutting of soft signage materials. Eliminating inaccurate cuts on soft signage jobs due to wrinkles, stretch distortion or imperfectly rewound rolls, the new Motorised Roll Feeder incorporates an active material feed. It avoids stretch by actively feeding the material to the cutting table, rather than pulling it. A dancer bar provides the correct tension with adjustable weights and an active edge correction allows for a steady straight feed, even if the roll is imperfectly rewound after printing. A spreader roll is also incorporated as a final checkpoint to smooth out any remaining wrinkles for precise finishing of soft signage jobs. The combination of the Motorised Roll Feeder and built-in Esko Kongsberg software cleverly compensates for any distortion during cutting. A software algorithm determines the exact cut size, taking into account material properties for shrink, stretch or melting during the print stage, or alternatively the operator can decide to follow what was printed. Russell Weller, Esko Product Manager, said: “This is the only solution in the soft signage industry that ensures accurate cutting results on tensile materials; from the very first cut through to the end of the roll. Perfect feed enables our customers to deliver defect-free products, avoid waste and rework and boost their efficiency. The Motorised Roll Feeder is available as a retrofit solution for our Kongsberg range and, when used in combination with the Take-Up Unit, provides the only true roll-to-roll production on the market today.” The Motorised Roll Feeder handles large rolls to enable wide format converters to keep up with their digital printing capacity. High volumes of large jobs, long print runs and dense materials like PVC require a solution that easily handles heavy rolls. The new Motorised Roll Feeder facilitates rolls up to 300kg/666lbs with a maximum outer diameter of 470mm/18.5”, producing large jobs even when they extend beyond the work area of the cutting table.

Typically, when jobs are larger than the table, a shift in the cutting edge creates a joint where the job is interrupted and then resumed. This step is now eliminated with the new Motorised Roll Feeder when used in combination with a conveyor belt and Esko software to manage the job. www.esko.com/motorized-roll-feeder

PIXEL PROPHET

DON’T TRY THIS AT HOME Martin Christie is sure we have all learned to love and loathe the mobile phone in equal measure. There aren’t many inventions that are both incredibly useful and seriously annoying at the same time. It puts an amazing amount of knowledge at your fingertips, but the apparent ease with which all this information is browsed and exchanged can seduce the owner into believing that they are in control and not the device. Instead of it being the servant, it is the user that is in danger of being the slave.

[F]

or print on demand, the main consequence is that customers not only leave deadlines until the last minute, but also expect that we have understood a garbled message cobbled together with typos and predictive text, and printed a dog’s dinner of a file botched with some obscure app. Even if you have emailed them back to tell them you can’t print it, or enquire about a few minor details like what size and how many, they won’t have read it. They’ll be too busy with social media updates or the latest installment on Netflix. Oh, and I forgot to mention the urgent phone call about the email they sent with an attachment that’s actually still sitting in their outbox. This is all part of the new norm which puts extra stress on the working day. Instant print it is; instant communication it is not. I could fill this column easily with tales of customer calamities, but as I’m sure you will have endured many of the like I’ll spare you a catalogue of disasters. But I can’t resist mentioning the group of young, excitable Spaniards who turned up mob handed at the counter. Spanish people seem to have an ability to talk in a continuous stream at some volume and without breathing, or actually listening. So four of them together makes the legendary tower of babel sound as peaceful as a library reading room. They are trying to put together a several-sided menu for their restaurant which they are opening the very next day. It’s in English, which they do not speak, so they are trying to put it together through the translator on their phones, while trying to explain to us in a few recognisable words, what they want. This dialogue is virtually incomprehensible as well as long-winded. In fact, it just needs Basil Fawlty to appear and ask if we can finish it before one of us expires. Eventually we have to send them home to do it properly on a computer, which they duly do. This may be a slightly exceptional episode, but it is typical of how reliant customers have become on immediate communication, and it being transformed into print in the same time frame. And it’s not only words, but pictures. By the very same logic they expect images in print to look exactly like they do on their high resolution, intensely illuminated, colour saturated mini screen, which they are also viewing at a distance, not with their nose buried in the paper. Yes, it’s not very clear, and no, the colour isn’t the same, that’s because what you are viewing on your phone isn’t the real file, but an illusion created by the phone company to justify the outrageous claims they made for the camera, and the ridiculous price you paid for it. What you see in print is the real image. Even if the original snap was quite reasonable, all those filters you applied to make it look ‘better’ have completely trashed any real quality or resolution. So the best solution is often the advice to leave well alone. This applies across the board, whether photography or design, when customers are advised their file is unsuitable for print because of the app or program they have used, and they ask which one you use. Advising them to

use Photoshop or InDesign is probably the worst piece of advice because, unless they have more than basic experience, it is likely that the dog’s dinner will end up as a complete banquet. Ironically, this is the one glimmer of hope on the horizon if customers can be educated to know not to waste their time, or spoil their photography and begin letting the experts do the work for them. As the general public has moved away from desktop computers, and even laptops, to more handy mobile devices, their professional editing capabilities are considerably reduced. While most people will have heard of an Adobe product, very few will now be subscribed to get the very latest applications, and that will separate the professional from the purely amateur. Even those with an old standalone Photoshop 5 disc (that’s a circular thing with a hole in the middle for anyone under 30) will not have anything like the tools now available. And if they have, they still have to be smart enough to use it. There’s no question that Adobe’s Photoshop has got a lot more complicated, and while most features are retained from previous versions, anyone without recent experience is likely to find it quite daunting, and may fail to appreciate its full potential. As the updates slip in online, almost on a monthly basis, it’s easy to miss new features unless you follow the

information trail and unleash their possibilities. Because the look of the workspace doesn’t change, you might not notice something significant that’s been added. Following several fine tune additions, May saw a clever new tool for both Camera Raw filter and Lightroom, which share similar editing actions. The Camera Raw filter can be used in Photoshop on all picture files, not just those in the title, so it’s a really useful extension to the basic exposure, colour and contrast options. Adjustments to Clarity and Dehaze were already available as a more subtle alternative to sharpening or softening the detail in an image, but the disadvantage was that both would affect the colour and density of the image to some degree. Now Texture has been added and that is able to enhance any surface detail in a non-destructive way. This really is a magic bullet as previously making digital images crisper meant just increasing the contrast between one pixel and another to ‘sharpen’ the picture artificially. But while this may make it look better on the small screen, it usually looks horrible in print. There is no reason this trick can’t be applied to improve any image, but it’s particularly useful for images that require detail. I photograph a lot of original artwork, and other items that can’t be scanned on a flatbed because they are too big, or too complicated, and the trick has always been to capture as much detail as possible to reproduce a replica of the original in print. Shooting a good, evenly lit hi-res photo in the first place is essential, but then being able to improve on the file in post production without affecting the quality and actually enhancing it, is a major step forward in preparing a digital file for print. It’s just a matter of juggling the sliders to get a perfect balance between them. I’ve exaggerated the effect in the sample shots so the difference shows up clearly printed in the magazine, but you can get the idea. The February update of Camera Raw did include an Enhance Details feature but this had a flaw with Windows 10 in that it relied on a bit of AI from Microsoft that was held back — something that should be fixed in the next update if it hasn’t been already. Essentially all of these improvements allow a more intricate manipulation of all the digital information contained in a file, as long as it hasn’t been beaten up by someone who thinks they know what they are doing with a Mickey Mouse

vivid-online.com

phone app. So it raises the game for images that have already been taken professionally, but it also means that the average customer’s image may be expertly enhanced as long as they haven’t tried to do anything to it themselves. You can only do so much in post production if you don’t have a reasonable quality file to work with, but as most modern cameras, and even phones, are quite capable of taking a good picture at least now and again, there is a chance you may be able to improve it for print. The advice has to be don’t try and edit it yourself, bring us the original and we can see what we can do. Although Photoshop and Lightroom perform similar editing tasks, the way they do them is quite different in operation. Lightroom has a smoother workflow and better for handling multiple files. You can import all from a particular folder and easily batch process the same edits across the selection before exporting as a modified file. As it’s a non-destructive process, the original image remains untouched, and you are working with a copy. Photoshop, and particularly the Camera Raw filter, are a little more pedestrian in that you work on one file at a time, and unless you specifically save the image as an edited file you are in danger of overwriting the original with changes you may regret. Always better to save an option, or better in Lightroom, you can save several options and Create Virtual Files and print them all to compare. It’s always very easy to lose your way editing picture files if you don’t have a reference for where you started, so both Lightroom and Camera Raw have a Before and After view. In Photoshop itself you need to save a Snapshot

through the History dialogue box. This is better than trawling back through the history log itself, as saving a lot of history actions is very memory hungry, and you can only back track in the sequence you created. In the updated Photoshop, and all other Adobe programs, you can now step backwards in sequence using Control Z which is a lot quicker than scrolling through the boxes. That’s just one of the several minor improvements which speed up editing, along with the big ones that improve performance. It’s well worthwhile, assuming you are subscribed to the Adobe Cloud, to check out exactly what’s in the updates to k eep yourself up to date as well as your software. And if you are not into Adobe, we should stress, other software is available, and for next month I will be re-visiting an old friend, CorelDRAW. It never really went away but like the once popular designer choice Quark, got rather overshadowed by the more comprehensive alternatives. Can it still cut the mustard? I’ll let you know once I’ve remembered how to use it!

TRADE EVENTS

THE PRINT SHOW BUILD UP Explorer and adventurer Sir Ranulph Fiennes OBE, boxing legend Chris Eubank and Masterchef star Gregg Wallace will all appear to speak and sign copies of their books at this year’s show.

[V]

isitors can also have their photograph taken with the celebrity and, using print and finishing technology at the show, The Print Show will work with exhibitors to produce a replacement front cover for the book featuring their picture — showcasing the qualities of personalised print. “We’re celebrating five years this September and we wanted to do something a little bit different to thank visitors and exhibitors for their continued support of the show,” event director Chris Davies said. “To welcome such iconic names to The Print Show will be fantastic for everyone in attendance. Sir Ranulph, Chris and Gregg are some of the most recognisable faces in the UK and I’m looking forward to hearing what they have to say to our visitors in September. “The idea behind the new feature is to showcase the value of printed media in the modern, fast-paced world, as well as the power of personalisation and print. The Print Show 2019 is the only place where you can not only meet your icons, but also take away a gift that money simply cannot buy.”

Sir Ranulph Fiennes OBE

Meet the celebs

Accredited by the Guinness Book of World Records as the ‘world’s greatest living explorer’, British explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes OBE is undoubtedly a national treasure. Born in Windsor in 1944, Sir Ranulph served in the British Army for eight years before switching his attention to adventuring. Among his many achievements are unsupported expeditions to the North Pole, the famous Artic solo expedition, seven marathons in seven days on seven continents and scaling Mount Everest at the age of 65. Sir Ranulph now commits much of his time to writing, public speaking and using his expertise and skills in adventuring to raise money for various charities. Chris Eubank is seen as one of the best middleweight and super-middleweight boxers of all time. Chris was born in Dulwich, South London, in 1966, before moving to New York to live with his mother at the age of 16. It was in the US where Chris began boxing, learning his trade in

Chris Eubank

local clubs before making his professional debut in 1985. From this debut victory, Chris went 46 fights without defeat, picking up the WBO Middleweight and WBO Super-Middleweight titles in the process. After retiring from boxing, Chris went on to work in television and can now often be seen supporting his son Chris Eubank Jr., who is also a professional boxer. Gregg Wallace is one of the most recognisable faces on British television, best known for copresenting MasterChef on the BBC. Gregg was born in Peckham, South East London, in 1964 and began his culinary career working in the famous Covent Garden Fruit and Veg Market. In 1989, he started George Allan’s Greengrocers, a company that built up to an eventual turnover of £7.5m. Based on this success, Gregg was invited

Gregg Wallace

to co-present Veg Talk on BBC Radio 4 with Charlie Hicks, before going on to co-present on MasterChef, Celebrity MasterChef and Professional MasterChef. In addition to filming commitments, Gregg has written a number of cookbooks.

Expanding exhibitor lList

In addition to adding exciting new features to The Print Show 2019, organisers have released an updated list of companies that will be exhibiting at the event in September. Among the major brands that have signed up so far are HP, Epson, RISO, Vivid Laminating Technologies, Xeretec (Xerox), Renz, Intec Printing Solutions and Premier Paper Group. INDUSTRY TRENDS

THE SIXTH DRUPA GLOBAL TRENDS REPORT Sabine Geldermann, Director drupa, Messe Duesseldorf, commented, “The report shows that with a little more than a year to go to drupa 2020, the global industry is in robust health overall.

[C]

learly, there are significant differences in prospects across different regions and markets as demand rapidly changes with economic conditions and evolving uses of print. That is the real value of this drupa Global Trends series. It allows readers to track those trends over time and identify how printers and suppliers alike can best invest to secure a strong future within the industry.” Globally 40% of printers stated their company economic condition was ‘good’ in 2018 versus 13% who described their condition as ‘poor’, the rest were ‘satisfactory’. This gives a positive net balance of 27%. For suppliers the positive net balance was 19%. Both groups remain optimistic with c.50% expecting things to be better in 2019. Conditions vary between regions and between markets. So North America continued to enjoy strong growth in 2018, Europe and Australia enjoyed steady growth, whilst Asia, the Middle East and S/C America were cautious and Africa was in decline. The findings come from the 6th major annual survey issued last autumn to the drupa Expert Panel of senior decision takers recruited from printers and exhibitors at drupa 2016 and run by Printfuture (UK) and Wissler & Partner (CH). Over 600 printers and 200 suppliers participated with all regions well represented. Richard Gray, Operations Director at Printfuture stated, “Most panel members are positive overall about the future, despite very clear concerns about the economic and political prospects for 2019 and beyond. It is striking that many show an increasingly confident grasp of how to exploit the rapidly changing opportunities for print, as the wider markets make increased use of digital communications.“ Conventional print volumes continue to decline but slowly. In 2013, 23% of printers reported that digital print was more than 25% of turnover. In 2018, the proportion of printers had increased to 29%. Nevertheless,

sheetfed offset remains the most common form of print technology, present in 66% of all printers. Sheetfed offset volume continues to grow in packaging but there was a clear decline amongst commercial printers for the first time. Web to Print volumes are climbing, but slowly. In 2014, 17% of participants with W2P installations reported more than 25% of turnover came from that source. By 2018, that proportion of participants had increased to 23%. Yet the proportion of printers with W2P installations is static — 25% in 2014 and 25% in 2018. In terms of Capital Expenditure, 41% of printers spent more in 2018 than 2017, while just 15% spent less and expenditure grew in all regions except Africa. Those in packaging and functional markets were very bullish while those in commercial and publishing markets were more cautious. It was broadly the same pattern amongst suppliers. For printers, finishing equipment was the most common target in 2019, followed by print technology and then PrePress/Workflow/MIS. As for print technology, digital toner sheetfed colour was the most common target for investment in 2019 for all markets, except for packaging where sheetfed offset took first place. Yet the packaging market saw a 5% growth in the proportion of SKU’s specifying digital print across all applications, except for labels where the figure is already 40%. The full report is available for sale from www.drupa.com

The Woodland Trust has two sides

Two Sides were very excited to welcome their new associate member, the Woodland Trust earlier this year. It is always a great pleasure to welcome members on board especially from different industries and sectors and the Woodland Trust certainly shares their passion for the natural environment and trees! The Trust is the UK’s largest woodland conservation charity. Established in 1972, it has more than 500,000 members and supporters and more than 1,000 sites. The charity’s partnership with Two Sides is a testament to the company’s own commitment to sustainability and the great story that print and paper have to tell. Stuart Davis, print production manager at the Woodland Trust says “As the UK’s largest woodland conservation charity we produce a lot of printed literature. We feel it is very important that when we communicate with our supporters, we demonstrate that we are serious about where our paper comes from and that it is produced using sustainable and responsible forestry. By joining Two Sides, we can promote paper’s unique recyclable and renewable qualities and also help to dispel common environmental misconceptions that it has a negative impact on the environment.” Davis continues, “Print and paper has always been and will be a versatile, effective and powerful means of marketing and communication. It is also one of the few truly sustainable products. Long may this continue.” Two Sides are delighted to have the Woodland Trust on board working together to inform and educate supporters of the sustainable and environmental attributes of the industry. By joining Two Sides, the Woodland Trust can now benefit from essential content and communications on the effectiveness and sustainability of print media to help spread positive news about the paper industry. www.twosides.info/why-join-two-sides www.woodlandtrust.org.uk

Stepping out in 3D printed style When it comes to stamping its creative authority on the world of fashion and design, Emporio Armani certainly knows how to make a statement. The Italian fashion house, working with Colorzenith and its large format Massivit 3D printer, produced a stunning, giant billboard featuring an enormous, 3D printed version of their newly released trainers. The footwear gives the impression the model is literally stepping off the full size 78.74ft by 45.93ft (24m x 14m) advertisement into the real world. The 3D printed trainer, measuring 6.22ft x 3.2 ft x 1.64 ft (2.1m x 1m x0.5m), weighs 20kg. It took just 19 hours to print and was finished with polyurethane paint. Mr. Aldo Neri, CEO at Colorzenith, comments:

“We are delighted we have been able to help Emporio Armani create such a show stopping piece. It brings the trainers to life in a dynamic and engaging way that creates excitement. It adds another dimension to advertising and captures the attention of consumers.” Massivit 3D solutions are empowering established print shops, like Colorzenith, to produce extraordinary new applications for the visual communication and entertainment markets as well as for a growing number of sectors. www.massivit3D.com

June 2019

Canon game-changing large format graphics At FESPA last month Canon shared gamechanging innovations designed to help quick print pros create high margin end-user products and improve operational efficiencies to fuel business growth. The highlights of the Canon stand included: • the newly launched Océ Colorado 1650 64” roll-to-roll printer featuring new Canon UVgel ink and Océ FLXfinish technology • the Océ Colorado 1640 with automated inline print-and-cut workflow • the first viewing of the Océ Arizona 1300 UV-flatbed printer series at an international event • the Océ Arizona 6170 with High Flow Vacuum (HFV) for precise registration when working with rigid media • the imagePROGRAF PRO-2000 24” large format printer using water resistant media Driving new opportunities — Visitors to the Canon stand found new technologies, stand-out creative applications and seamless end-to-end workflows designed to help them fuel their growth through improved production efficiency and by differentiating their product offering. To help customers unlock new application opportunities, Canon launched the Océ Colorado 1650 roll-to-roll printer. (The new printer optimises productivity and performance of selfadhesive vinyls, wall coverings, canvasses, soft signage materials, front and back lit graphics as well as non-coated paper, and incorporates Océ FLXfinish technology, giving customers the choice of matte or gloss modes on the same media type without changing ink on one single machine for increased application versatility. The Océ Arizona 1380 GT model, part of the Océ Arizona 1300 printer series, was shown for the first time at an international event following its January 2019 launch. It can also produce textured applications reliably and cost-effectively using Océ Touchstone, showing visitors how they can offer sophisticated and easy-to-use elevated printing, adding exciting tactile elements to print projects to achieve higher margins. The Océ Arizona 1380 GT is powered by Océ Arizona Xpert, a unique workflow software solution that allows you to create recipes for complex projects that can be repeated for true efficiency, helping customers to improve time to market. Accelerating operational efficiency — Consistent with its commitment to help customers to optimise operational efficiencies, Canon has collaborated closely with finishing partner Fotoba to design a new automated printand-cut solution for roll-to-roll applications produced using the Canon UVgel printers (Océ Colorado 1640 and 1650). Building on the technology preview shared at FESPA 2018, the

solution — which will be commercially available later in 2019 — integrates the Océ Colorado rollto-roll printer with the Fotoba XLD series cutter, enabling automated finishing of printed output, resulting in full-bleed applications without manual operation. An auto-loading module feeds the printed media roll from the printer into the cutter. This enables cutting to proceed automatically, eliminating manual operator intervention and production downtime from manual feeding. The 18 metre-per-minute operating speed achievable with the Fotoba XLD device is well matched to the ultra-fast printing speed of the Océ Colorado printers, enabling exceptional productivity for high-volume graphics applications, such as fullbleed posters. For customers seeking to streamline production with challenging media, such as corrugated board and plywood, the Océ Arizona 6170 is being demonstrated with High Flow Vacuum (HFV) which keeps substrates flat to the flatbed for precise registration, while reducing preparation time for operators. Linked with Océ ProCut workflow software, it showed visitors how automated cutting can remove the need for manual intervention and speed up production, enabling skilled resources to be redeployed in other areas of the business. As part of Canon’s extensive large format portfolio, stand visitors were able to see the 24” imagePROGRAF PRO-2000 printing on water resistant media for signs, banners, posters, self-adhesive graphics and pop-up displays. There is no need for lamination when using Canon’s water resistant media, thanks to its ink-receiving layer that consists of a binder with low water solubility. With a choice of options

including matte polypropylene, self-adhesive and banner vinyl, the water resistant media range offers an easy, quick and cost-effective choice for customers to produce indoor and outdoor prints that can last up to six months. Visitors to the Canon stand could also explore a range of graphics and retail décor elements which were created to support the promotion of coffee table book ‘Speed’, showing how brands can use print to create consistent and emotionally engaging experiences for their end customers, encouraging new and repeat business. From POS to encourage purchase, through to interior décor to enhance the customer’s brand experience, the ‘Speed’ campaign applications demonstrate print’s role as part of a multi-channel launch. Michele Tuscano, Vice President, Large Format Graphics, Canon EMEA, comments: “Large format graphics print service providers continue to look for ways to diversify, manage an evolving product mix, and handle growing volumes. With the launch of the Océ Arizona 1300 earlier this year and the introduction of the Océ Colorado 1650 here at FESPA 2019, we’ve focused our innovation efforts on addressing these challenges and helping customers to manage and stimulate growth.” He continued “At FESPA, customers can see how to achieve operational excellence with new digital print technology innovations, supported closely by our workflow partners. We’re also inspiring visitors with the lucrative possibilities that come from taking existing applications and transforming them into something that offers even more value, with the potential to differentiate and propel their business forward.” www.canon.co.uk

Full Square goes quirky with Décortex

The team at Leicester based Full Square worked in collaboration with local design team, Newenglish Design, who offered Nottingham City Council an exciting and engaging way to lift their new Strelley Road library interior. Part of a new development, the council wanted to create a ‘modern adaptable facility’ and were over the moon with the finished results. Having introduced Full Square to the concept of wallcoverings (and their industry leading Digimura range) several years previously, Papergraphics presented its new Décortex range of window blind material to Full Square as a harmonious concept to complement their existing interiors offering. The Décortex printable roller blind fabric range, offers designers and creatives new possibilities to expand beyond wall décor; create exciting and interesting graphic designs for interiors utilising window spaces too. Agreeing she could see this as a potential new market, Full Square owner Claire McFadden seized the bull by the horns and began promoting the concept to several designers and specifiers in the local area. Newenglish Design took up the idea and implemented some clever photographic designs to complement the

colourful wayfinder signage and contemporary look and feel they wanted to create for the new library in Nottingham. “My design thinking was to turn the idea of a library as a rather uninspiring space on its head. I wanted to make the library a true community hub that is vibrant interesting and a place for everyone to enjoy and would want to spend time in.” explains Creative Director, Carl Bebbington of Newenglish Design. “In the first week of opening the queues of people wanting to join the library stretched from front to back. The public response to the new library has been incredible, they love it as do the staff who work there.” “The fire rating for this material, as well as the superior lay flat quality and the natural textile appearance of the blind material sets Décortex apart from anything else that we’ve come across for interior window decoration” says Claire at Full Square. “The help and support given by Papergraphics has also made this a really straight forward but exciting addition to our product and service offering”. While Décortex is a wipeable product, the Project Manager for Nottingham City Council was all too conscious of the potential for marks and scuffs to appear on the product with this being installed in a public space.

Full Square highlighted what they see as positive ‘green’ credentials of this solution. “We explained that due to the quality of the components [part of the Décortex solutions range available from Papergraphics] it means that if the blind material did become damaged beyond day to day cleaning, (or even if they wanted to change the graphics in the future), we could simply print fresh material and replace it, still reusing all of the other components. Nottingham City Council really liked this, and now has a sleek, engaging set of blinds to complement their new library interior, which also happened to be great quality and functional. A win all round.” Full Square has also implemented the new window blind concept in the prestigious new head office of a luxury car club as well; using large scale classic car images to create a high end look. While its focus is on the B2B car market, Full Square has also received interest in the blinds for domestic use, which they have offered with a colour matching service, as well as customisable design options through a purpose-built webpage. SOMETHING TO SHARE…? Just Call Me Hoff

David Hasselhoff walked into a bar and ordered a beer. The bartender said: “It’s a pleasure to serve you Mr. Hasselhoff.” “Just call me Hoff,” said the actor. “Sure,” said the bartender. “No hassle.”

Health issues in Spain

While on holiday in Spain with my wife, I started to feel funny. I had some pain in my chest and felt short of breath. I chalked it up to the long day we had just had, but I continued to feel worse. As we got out of the taxi and walked into the hotel, I collapsed. It became apparent to my wife and I that I was having a heart attack. I thought for sure I would die because the nearest hospital was 1/2 hour away. Suddenly from the back room came a woman wielding defibrillators. She shouted to the other staff to help and they ripped off my shirt and restarted my heart right there in the hotel. The ambulance arrived 20 minutes later, but thanks to this amazing woman my life had been saved. I spent the night in the hospital but I got out around noon the next day. I went back to the hotel to thank this woman. I said, “I’m amazed that a hotel this small has a full time doctor as skilled as yourself!” She replied, “No one expects the Spanish Inn physician.”

A new mummy

A new mummy has just been discovered in Egypt! It was found covered in chocolate and nuts. They believe he was called Pharaoh Rocher!

Smart numbers

What did the number zero say to the number eight? NICE BELT!

New car

At the bar, Tom and Bill were talking. “My uncle tried to make a new kind of car. He took the wheels from a BMW, the radiator from a Lexus, and tyres from a Ford,” said Tom. “What did he get?” asked Bill. “Two years,” said Tom.

More new coffee choices

In our home we tend to get the children to help out. One day our youngest son came in to the living room and asked, “Does anyone want a cup of coffee?” “Yes, please!” we said. He replied, “What kind of coffee do you want? Capitated or decapitated?”

Most miserable round

A golfer was enduring the most miserable round. Every shot he tried seemed to end in disaster. He and his caddie had trailed in and out of woodland, deep rough, a lake and countless sand traps. On the seventeenth hole he was left with a shot of 180 yards to the green. “Do you think I can get there with a five-iron?” he asked his caddie. The caddie sighed, “Eventually.”

Just as you ordered

“Look at this mess!” roared an angry customer at a local cafe, pointing to his squashed doughnut. “It’s just as you ordered it, sir,” the waitress replied meekly. “What do you mean?” barked the customer. “You told me to bring you coffee and a doughnut and step on it.”

Sound advice

A young man is reported to have approached the renowned composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (one of the great musical prodigies of all time), and asked, “Herr Mozart, I have the ambition to write symphonies and perhaps you can advise me how to get started.” Mozart said, “The best advice I can give you is to wait until you are older and more experienced, and try your hand at less ambitious pieces to begin with.” The young man looked astonished. “But, Herr Mozart, you yourself wrote symphonies when you were considerably younger than I.” “Ah,” said Mozart, “but I did so without asking advice.”

The third degree

“Did you give the prisoner the third degree?” the police captain asked the detective. “Yeah, we browbeat him pretty good,” nodded the other. “Asked him every question and made every

threat we could think of.” “And did you get a confession?” asked the sergeant. “Not exactly,” explained the officer. “All he’d say was, ‘Yes dear’ and he’d doze off.”

The comforting mother

Daughter: “I don’t like the boy you found for me... his teeth are not in order and he looks ugly when he smiles.” Mother: “Don’t worry about that. He will not be smiling after he marries you.”

Counting sheep

Accountant: “Doctor, I just can’t get to sleep at night.” Doctor: “Have you tried counting sheep?” Accountant: “Yes, and that’s the problem! I make a mistake and then spend three hours trying to find it!”

The biggest cavity

“Open wider,” requested the dentist, as he began his examination of the patient. “Good God!” he said startled. “You’ve got the biggest cavity I’ve ever seen... the biggest cavity I’ve ever seen.” “Okay Doc!” replied the patient. “I’m scared enough without you saying something like that twice.” “I didn’t!” said the dentist. “That was the echo.”

Road works

One morning a local highway department crew reaches their job site and realises they have forgotten all their spades. The crew’s foreman calls the office and tells his supervisor the situation. The supervisor says, “Don’t worry, we’ll send some spades... just lean on each other until they arrive.”

Summer shorts

A guy goes to the doctor. Guy: “Doc, I think I broke my arm in three places.” Doctor: “Well, don’t go to those places!” I moved into a new neighbourhood and put up an electric fence. The next morning I found out my neighbour was dead against it. My son thinks I set the bar too high for him as a child. It seems like he never got over it. What does a ghost call his mum

and dad? His transparents. What is the least spoken language in the world? Sign language. What do you get when you cross a dog and a lion? You get a really scared postman! When a man opens the car door for his wife, it means one of two things... It’s either a new car or a new wife!

Dinner yonight

Eighty-year-old Bessie bursts into the recreation room of the retirement home. She holds her clenched fist in the air and announces, “Anyone who can guess what’s in my hand, can take me out to dinner tonight!” A witty, elderly gentleman in the rear shouts out, “An elephant?” Bessie thinks a minute and replies, “Close enough!”

Four wonderful words

Two young lady friends hadn’t seen each other in a long time and decided to meet for lunch. Their conversation got around to their respective love lives. Mary confessed there really wasn’t anyone in her life at the moment. Heather started smiling like crazy when talking about her new boyfriend. “He’s perfect. He’s so sweet. Then last night he said those four little words I’ve been waiting to hear.” “What? He asked you to marry him?” Mary asked. Heather said, “No, he said ‘put your money away.”

Doctor, doctor

The patient runs into his psychiatrist’s office and says, “Doctor, I think I’m a tepee, no I think I’m a wigwam, no I think I’m a tepee, no I think I’m a wigwam, no I think I’m a tepee, no I think I’m a wigwam!” The psychiatrist looks at him and says, “Relax, you’re just too tents!”

One liner

The person sitting next to me on a flight was a woman. Ever the charmer, I used one of my pick-up lines on her. I asked, “Does the airline charge you extra for sitting next to goodlooking men?” “Yes,” she replied, “but I wasn’t willing to pay.”

Birthday deal

Child: “Mum, can you buy me a bike for my birthday?” Mum: “Will it make you behave any better if I do?” Child: “No, but I’ll misbehave over a wider area.”

Ordering in

My husband and I both work, so our family eats out a lot. Recently, when we were having a rare home-cooked meal, I handed a glass to my three-year-old and told her to drink her milk. She looked at me bewildered and replied, “But I didn’t order milk.”

Trike or a bike?

What’s the difference between a poorly dressed man on a tricycle and a well-dressed man on a bicycle? Attire.

Half-hearing

A man goes to a doctor and says, “Doctor, I have a very serious problem. I only hear half of everything.” “That can’t be,” answers the doctor. “Either you can hear everything or you hear nothing. Tell you what, Let us see. Repeat after me... Ninety Six.” The man quickly replies, “Forty eight!”

Piano tuner

The doorbell rang and the lady of the house discovered a workman, complete with tool chest, on the front door. “Lady,” he announced, “I’m the piano tuner.” The lady exclaimed, “Why, I didn’t send for a piano tuner.” The man replied, “I know, but your neighbours did.”

Me: What happened to you? You don’t look so good.

Is everyone here?

A man was very sick. Doctors feared the worst. He is at home one day, resting in his bed. He looks up and says, “Is my wife here?” His wife replies, “Yes, dear, I’m here, next to you.” The man goes, “Are my children here?” “Yes, Daddy, we are all here,” say the children. “Are my other relatives also here?” And they say, “Yes, we are all here...” The man sits up and says, “Then why in the world is the light on in the kitchen?”

Sporting prowess

A school teacher can’t believe his student isn’t excited about the Cricket World Cup. “It’s a huge event. Why aren’t you excited?” “Because I’m not a cricket fan. My parents love football, so I do too,” says the student. “Well, that’s a lousy reason,” says the teacher. “What if your parents were dumb fools? What would you be then?” “Then I’d be a cricket fan.”

Short shorts

I opened my electric bill at the same time I opened my water bill Needless to say, I was shocked. I bought some new seeds for my chickens, but they can’t eat it. It’s impeccable. A local barber in my area just got arrested for selling drugs. Blew my mind; I’ve been his customer for years and had no idea he was a barber! I invented some new cookware, but the critics panned it.

Friend: I got stung by a brose.

Do you know why the banana put aloe vera on its sunburn? Because it was peeling. I went into my local bookstore and asked for a book on turtles. “Hardback?” the assistant asked. “Yes,” I replied, “with little heads too.” A man phoned to find out whether he could get insurance if the nearby volcano erupted. They assured him he would be covered. Which runs faster, HOT or COLD? HOT because anyone can catch a COLD. If a gang of robbers dove into a swimming pool, would that cause a crime wave?

Politeness

Two women are talking in a park. The first one says, “See my new diamond ring? My husband bought it for me.” The second one answers, “Oh, that’s nice! That’s really, really nice!” The first one continues, “And see that shiny new car parked over there? My husband bought it for me.” The second one replies, “Oh, that’s nice! That’s really, really nice!” The first one reveals, “And you know that big white house at the top of the hill? My husband is going to buy that for me.” The second one answers, “Oh, that’s nice! That’s really, really nice!” The first one apologises, “Oh, I’m sorry, here I am, going on and on about myself! Tell me, what have you been up to?”

Me: There’s no b in rose.

39

The second one responds, “Well, I’ve just completed a course on politeness.” The first one asks, “A course on politeness? Why would you spend time on something like that?” The second one answers, “Because I used to say, ‘Who gives a damn?’ but now I say, ‘Oh, that’s nice! That’s really, really nice!”

Literacy failure

My books all piled on top of me, I’ve only got my shelf to blame.

Tall order

A customer walked into a bar and said, “I’ll have a pint of less, please.” “Less?” queried the bartender. “What’s that?” “I don’t know either,” said the customer, “but my doctor told me to drink less.”

Writers block

Why did Shakespeare only write in ink? Pencils confused him... “2B or not to 2B?”

Doesn’t even need glasses

John: “My grandad is 98 years old, and he doesn’t even use glasses.” Jack: “Wow, that is incredible!” John: “Yes, he drinks straight from the bottle.” Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto After sitting down, Jupiter says, “I’m the biggest planet, give me the biggest beer you have.” Saturn says, “I’m the best looking planet, give me the fanciest drink you have.” Pluto says, “I know I’m not a planet, but give me a shot!

Friend: There was in this one!
