Greetings, young, grown and even older girls and boys!
We are thrilled to be able to go on a short adventure. In this book we will try to tell a story of 100 years. It won’t be about princes or princesses, but about the giants who change the world.
Once upon a time, in an american land far, far away, there was a boy named henry. he lived on a farm. his parents grew various crops and cared for livestock. every day little henry would run around in the fields, play and have fun.
Of all the plants, he loved corn the most –tall, slender, majestic, with leaves that gently swayed in the wind and sang wonderful songs. every day, henry would stroll through the rows, observe it, listen to the melody of its leaves and wonder: „how does it grow? What makes it so strong? Can i help it be even better and grow even stronger?”
he was curious and observant.
he was inspired by a famous scientist.
Often henry would go on walks and listen to his tales about how plants have their own secrets, particularities and wishes.
This inspired the young boy to learn more and more about corn and dream of science and discoveries.
When he grew up, henry began experimenting bravely. he noticed something interesting: the shiniest and prettiest ears of corn didn’t always yield the best harvest.
henry wished to discover the truth on his own, even though everyone thought the opposite.
That’s how he learnt that what’s more important than how the plant looks are the amount and strength of the grains on the cob.
With great care and attention he started crossing different types of corn.
Years later, he created an incredible plant –the Copper Cross –the first corn hybrid that could yield more grain and provide more food to farmers.
That was a huge success!
in 1926, henry thought he could help many farmers with his discoveries, so he founded his own company. he called it the hi-Bred Corn Company. its purpose was to make corn seeds for sowing.
Later, it became known as Pioneer, as it was a pioneer – the first in something brave and new, something nobody had discovered before.
and so, henry’s adventure still continues today. every time someone sows a Pioneer seed, part of the dream of this young boy comes to life again and again – his dream of making the world better and every plant better than the one before. Pioneer’s plants soon began roaming the world –helping farmers grow stronger plants, feed more families and make fields more fertile.
henry never lost his love for science. he studied plants throughout his whole life. and sometimes he worked for other important things too – he helped develop new programs for farmers and even became the Vice President of the United States of america!
But he never forgot where he came from –a small cornfield and a big, curious heart.
This year, Pioneer® celebrates the 100th anniversary of its establishment.
Over these 100 years, those who came after henry Wallace have kept the tradition alive, doing new developments, some of which have contributed to completely changing the face of agriculture.
in 2026, we also celebrate the 30th anniversary of sowing the first three sunflower hybrids (eladil, Odil and Nibil) of Corteva agriscience™/ Pioneer® in Bulgaria.
in 2026 we also celebrate the 20th anniversary of sowing the first rapeseed hybrids of Corteva agriscience™/ Pioneer® in Bulgaria.
