THE POWER OF PRAYER

So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive His mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most — Hebrews 4:16 (NLT)

‘The airport,’ says MAF Pilot Matt Marples, ‘was busier than usual as people crowded the entrance trying to leave. If we didn’t get airborne soon, we’d run out of time

‘A huge weather front was amassing over Uganda which could potentially stop us in our tracks. I began worrying that these babies would miss their chance.

‘Insecurity in Juba, South Sudan, meant it was uncertain if the flight would be rescheduled. I battled with the hardest decision I’ve ever made in my pilot career — whether to cancel the flight.

‘Knowing that nine lives potentially relied on my decision, I prayed. Later, I learnt that at that exact time, my mother-in-law and sister-in-law had been woken up back home in Canada with an urgent prompting to pray for me.

‘Their prayers, and God’s purposes, opened a third option — flying nine mums and babies out of Juba to the safety of Arua in Uganda and continuing the following day.’

Matt did indeed land in Uganda the next day, where he escaped the inclement weather and the insecure situation in Juba and was able to transfer his nine small patients from the MAF plane to the care of the team from CURE Hospital.

He commented that, ‘During this flight, I learnt how God can order our steps even in a crisis to make sure His purposes prevail.’

As a result, the nine children received urgent life-saving surgery.

This is just one of the many powerful stories of God at work in our programmes around the world. So, as you pray through our latest Prayer Diary, please be assured that your prayers ‘avail much’.

Let us come boldly to God, knowing that Jesus has made a way for us to come, and knowing that He will provide the grace we need when we need it most.

Thank you for partnering with us in prayer.

MYANMAR

FRIDAY 2 Pray for continued relationship building between the government and the various groups that have opposed Myanmar’s military regime. May lasting peace ensue so that the needs of the nation’s most vulnerable communities can be met

SATURDAY 3 Pray for God’s divine wisdom, guidance and favour for our Myanmar team as they navigate the complexities of finally establishing flight operations that will reach and serve those who would most benefit from our flights

PLEASE TAKE THIS WEEK TO GIVE THANKS AND CELEBRATE THE GOOD NEWS STORIES AND ANSWERS TO PRAYER FROM MAF PROGRAMMES WORLDWIDE

GOOD NEWS

JANUARY

For I am not ashamed of the Gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes — Romans 1:16 (NIV)

SUNDAY 4 Praise God that a number of women have been declared free from leprosy in Macenta, Guinea. MAF flies Dr Martha Gafafer regularly to the region so she can help treat the many people suffering from leprosy. Pray that many more patients will be cured from this isolating and debilitating disease.

MONDAY 5 Huge congratulations to Nathanael Smith for receiving his Aircraft Maintenance Licence from the Civil Aviation Authority! It’s the culmination of much hard work and effort over the last few years. He is the first person to graduate from our Engineering Training Scheme. Pray for Nathanael and his wife Joanna as they prepare to serve with MAF in Madagascar.

TUESDAY 6 Give thanks that our Chad programme has now recruited a Chief Engineer for the programme. We pray success over this role!

WEDNESDAY 7 Today, let’s praise God that the floatplane needed in Uganda has arrived, and that pilots have begun training to fly it. Having waited for many years, MAF’s Uganda team is truly grateful to God. Pray that the amphibious aircraft will be used to change many people’s lives for the better on Lake Victoria’s islands.

THURSDAY 8 The trauma healing provided by MAF partner Peace International is really starting to make a difference for refugee children attending schools in Adjumani District, bordering South Sudan. The children are calmer in the classroom, less anxious, and now able to enjoy school life. We thank God that we can fly the Peace International personnel to help South Sudanese students traumatised by civil war

FRIDAY 9 Give thanks for every precious legacy that was left to MAF in 2025. We feel so blessed that supporters want to continue to make a difference through MAF after they are gone. It is truly humbling.

SATURDAY 10 Amazingly, MAF flew to more than 500 airstrips in 2025, enabling us to reach many more communities with help, hope and healing! Pray that God will help us connect with even more communities this year.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA (PNG)

SUNDAY 11 Praise God that we can deliver Bible materials to remote areas so people are able to receive God’s Word. Please pray for our pilots as they deliver these precious resources around PNG.

MONDAY 12 Give thanks for our floatplane. Last year, it landed in remote Wanga Wanga for the first time! The pilots have gladly connected with the locals, sharing stories and building lasting bonds.

TUESDAY 13 We’re so grateful for the international MAF families based in Mount Hagen. Please pray for Mathias and Mandy Glass, Jan Ivar and Linda Andresen, Samuel and Michelle Dauth, and Steffan and Heidi Engedal and their children, as they continue their dedicated service to PNG’s people

WEDNESDAY 14 Give thanks for our aircraft maintenance engineers. Without their skills, we wouldn’t be able to fly our 11 light aircraft. They are vital for our work in MAF's busy PNG programme, and we thank God for them!

THURSDAY 15 Give thanks for MAF Pilot Arjan Paas, who’s made more than 5,000 landings in our P2-MAI plane. We are excited and blessed by how many people and how much cargo this plane has carried across PNG. Pray for protection for the next 5,000 flights!

FRIDAY 16 Today, let’s praise God for our operations team who work tirelessly to ensure that everything runs smoothly. Pray for Tevo Aliala and the other members of staff as they serve in these largely unseen roles

SATURDAY 17 MAF planes are in the air for hours at a time, providing vital services such as transporting patients to hospital. Those who are ill or injured receive a medevac care pack filled with essential items and gifts donated by Goroka Chamber of Commerce. Thank God for their generosity and for the many fruitful partnerships that we enjoy in PNG.

ARNHEM LAND

So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ — Romans 10:17 (ESV)

SUNDAY 18 Praise God that there’s an openness to the Gospel in Yolŋu communities. Pray that Arnhem Land’s indigenous population will have a revelation of God’s love for them, and that many will accept Jesus as their Lord and Saviour.

MONDAY 19 Pray for more missionaries to come and serve in Arnhem Land. The need is great and the workers are few

TUESDAY 20 Uphold MAF’s team as its members share food and the Good News with the Aboriginal Yolŋu people. Pray they will have the joy of seeing many people reached with the Gospel

Your prayers are the most important gift you can give us, but if you feel you would like to give financially as you pray, you can do this simply by scanning the QR code

WEDNESDAY 21 A large mine in Rio Tinto, eastern Arnhem Land, is closing, which could have a significant economic impact on some of the most isolated communities. Pray that the negative impact of the closure will be minimised and that any future plans for tourism will consider local people’s needs

THURSDAY 22 Pray for MAF’s leadership as they prioritise projects for the next five years. Pray for wisdom and the Holy Spirit’s clear leading. Pray also that the programme will have a full team of aircraft maintenance engineers and managers.

FRIDAY 23 Pray for the many women and children affected by domestic violence. Our pilots frequently fly traumatised women to safety. Pray for healing, hope and a change in some of the Yolŋu people’s traditional mindset towards women and the place they have in society.

SATURDAY 24 Please pray for the health clinics and medical outreaches MAF enables. It's not always easy for remote communities to raise the alarm when emergency help is required. Pray for an improvement in Arnhem Land’s infrastructure so communications get through quickly, and that people will receive help when they need it most.

SUNDAY 25 – SATURDAY 31

PLEASE SPEND THIS WEEK LIFTING UP PILOT JAMES AND OPERATIONS OFFICE VOLUNTEER DANIELLE GULLETT, SERVING WITH MAF IN ARNHEM LAND

YOU’VE BEEN IN ARNHEM LAND FOR OVER A YEAR NOW. HOW HAVE YOU SETTLED IN?

We’ve been blessed with great friendships among our MAF team and among the Yolŋu people.

James has been busy with flying, but we’ve also both taken a lead in the outreach programme where we fly to isolated homelands, sharing food and the Gospel. The Yolŋu people are excited to know more about Jesus and want to engage in the community of Christ.

HOW IS MAF ABLE TO MEET SOME OF ARNHEM LAND’S NEEDS?

There are many needs, including good education, improved healthcare and a deeper understanding of Christ. We do our best to prioritise flights that meet these needs, so we often fly doctors, teachers and missionaries.

We’d love to see more missionaries in this region and have been working with Pioneers, whose staff want to empower and resource local Christian communities.

HOW HAVE YOU SEEN GOD AT WORK?

The openness to the Gospel among the Yolŋu communities is amazing. We also see God working in the most challenging situations because we regularly carry out flights for women and children facing serious domestic violence, taking them to places of refuge.

I am often touched by these young mothers who are eager to pray and read the Bibles kept in the plane’s seat pockets. Even in these difficult circumstances, we see God’s light shine

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE US TO PRAY FOR?

I love being a pilot and Danielle enjoys working part-time with MAF in our operations office. She also works with Country Connect Foundation — an organisation seeking to help and enable Yolŋu people with disabilities with daily life and cultural connection.

Pray for strength and energy as we work, and that we can prioritise our time well. Pray too that we are a light for Christ to all those with whom we work and interact.

TIMOR-LESTE

SUNDAY 1 Praise God that an MAF medevac flight was able to save the life of four-year-old Juvenia. Although bitten by a poisonous green snake, her local treatment centre didn’t have the antivenom needed to save her, so MAF stepped in! Pray that whenever critical calls come through, we’ll always be able to respond.

MONDAY 2 Lift up Suzana Nunes, our Bookings Officer in TimorLeste. She plays a vital role at the front desk, assisting passengers with flight bookings and enquiries. Pray for Suzana as she goes about her daily tasks, and for her relationships with our partners.

TUESDAY 3 Give thanks for MAF Base Maintenance Manager and Engineer Assistant Arnaldo Falo. He’s been serving the people of Timor-Leste for nearly 15 years! Arnaldo says that, through working with MAF, he’s learnt a lot about servant leadership. Pray that God will continue to bless him as he continues to serve Timorese people in remote locations

WEDNESDAY 4 MAF flights enable healthcare staff around the country to run clinics to diagnose and treat TB. Pray for Maluk Timor, the organisation running these medical outreaches, as its personnel seek to identify where there are shortages of medical personnel

THURSDAY 5 Give thanks that, in 2025, the World Health Organisation declared Timor-Leste free from malaria. Pray that health will continue to improve on an island that has the highest level of malnutrition in south-eastern Asia

FRIDAY 6 MAF’s shuttle service runs every Monday and Friday to Suai in Timor-Leste. Today, please pray for all the passengers on this flight. May they know the Lord’s blessing.

SATURDAY 7 Pray for MAF partner Blue Ventures, which is working with local communities on Atauro Island to conserve natural marine resources. Pray that Blue Ventures’ ecological initiatives will protect Timor-Leste’s sea life for future generations

TANZANIA

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path — Psalm 119:105 (ESV)

SUNDAY 8 Praise God that MAF has been partnering with Haydom Lutheran Hospital for 35 years. Emmanuel Mighay, the hospital’s Community Liaison Officer, says, ‘This partnership with MAF has extended our reach far beyond what we could have achieved on our own.’ Give thanks that, through working together, the hospital can carry out flying medical clinics, deliver emergency supplies and airlift critically ill patients in remote communities

MONDAY 9 ‘When the plane comes, it’s like the world remembers us,’ says Nepili who lives in the isolated village of Lesirwai in northern Tanzania. Please pray that this community will continue to know the love of God and realise that the Lord remembers them

TUESDAY 10 For those living in hard-to-reach communities in Tanzania, many children wouldn’t receive vaccinations or medical check-ups if it wasn’t for our flights. Although it’s just a 12-minute plane ride for the medical staff, many patients have to walk half a day to receive the healthcare the medics provide. Pray that medical assistance becomes more accessible to everyone living in remote areas.

WEDNESDAY 11 Please uphold MAF passenger Rev Philemon Masui and his team. They share the Word of God with the people of Chidudu, an area where the Gospel isn’t widely heard or received. Pray that hearts and lives will be changed by this ministry.

THURSDAY 12 Pray for our Tanzania team as they seek to expand operations and find new organisations with which they can partner. Pray that many more people will discover MAF and see the benefits of using our service.

FRIDAY 13 Praise God for MAF medevacs. One of our medical emergency airlifts enabled a man who’d injured his hand with a saw to reach hospital safely. Our flight meant he arrived swiftly and, as a result, the surgeons were able to save two of his three damaged fingers.

SATURDAY 14 According to Malala Fund, 31% of girls in Tanzania are married before the age of 18, with 22% becoming pregnant before they’re 19. Pray that young girls’ voices will be heard and their choices respected when it comes to the futures they want. You can find out more about how MAF is working with Maasai communities by visiting www.maf-uk.org/child-marriage

SUNDAY 15 Praise God for our new intake of engineer and pilot recruits. We will soon be announcing an expanded scheme that seeks to put MAF at the heart of future engineering and pilot training in the UK. Please pray for the planning and launch later this year, and that we can find donors to help fund it.

MONDAY 16 Please pray for Nathan Farrow and his family as he continues in his new role as Quality, Safety and Security Officer. He is based here in the UK but his work involves visiting our programmes around the world. If you would like to support the Farrow family, please visit www.maf-uk.org/the-farrows

TUESDAY 17 Give thanks that Glenn Cousley has achieved his Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer qualification after many years of study and hard work. Pray for him and his family serving in Mareeba, Australia.

WEDNESDAY 18 Dave and Caroline Moore returned to the UK from PNG last year. Pray for them as they readjust to life here, and for the incredible legacy they have left behind of a trained and capable building and maintenance team.

THURSDAY 19 Patience Oduro has now been working as Business Risk, Compliance and Governance Manager in PNG for a year. Pray for her and the Finance Team as they use their gifts to support our work.

FRIDAY 20 Pray for Sophie Jones who is in the first year of her engineering degree at the University of the Highlands and Islands in Perth, Scotland. She is studying towards a role as an aircraft maintenance engineer with MAF

SATURDAY 21 Have you ever wondered how the stories you hear about the work of MAF around the world get to us here in the UK? We have Communication Officers in various regions that feed stories and photos back so that we can praise God and raise prayer and financial needs. Jenny Davies is one such staff member based in South Sudan. Pray for her today as she hears and shares what God is doing.

FEBRUARY

SOUTH SUDAN

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you — Matthew 7:7 (NIV)

SUNDAY 22 Praise God that during a 4-day peace and reconciliation outreach in Chukudum, 63 participants received spiritual and emotional healing from trauma that they experienced through tribal warfare. As we uphold MAF’s vison to see healing released, let’s pray for all those suffering from the effects of conflict and loss throughout the country.

MONDAY 23 MAF Pilot Ryan Unger gives thanks for the babies he flew from South Sudan to CURE Children’s Hospital in Mbale, Uganda. Once there, the children who were suffering from hydrocephalus and spina bifida received specialised treatment and surgery. As we lift up Usratuna Rehabilitation Centre, Juba, which screened the children, let’s praise the Lord for our ability to provide regular flights for vulnerable infants who need specialist treatment in Uganda

TUESDAY 24 Please uphold Juba Christian Academy which is suffering from a significant shortage of qualified international teachers. No teachers means no education for our missionaries’ children, so do pray for dedicated Christians to serve in South Sudan

WEDNESDAY 25 Although the nation’s national elections were originally scheduled for July 2015, they’ve been repeatedly postponed due to civil war and political turmoil. Pray that the country will go to the polls as planned on 26 December this year and that the outcome will lead to a sustainable, democratic peace

THURSDAY 26 We don’t always hear news of those we fly to hospital, so imagine our joy at discovering that the three men involved in a motorbike crash in Tonj have now fully recovered, despite one of them nearly dying. As we thank God for this marvellous answer to prayer, let’s pray that the many medevacs MAF carries out will have similarly successful outcomes

FRIDAY 27 Susan, who attended an MAF peace and reconciliation outreach, originally ‘lived a life of hatred’, accusing God of ‘taking the only person close to her.’ Give thanks that she prayed, met with God and felt a great weight lifted from her shoulders. Please pray that many others will also experience Christ’s freedom

SATURDAY 28 A prayer partner once said that, if our lives were more prayer-shaped, things would probably go less pearshaped! Today, let’s pray that we'll be more prayerful. As we commit our concerns to God, let’s remember the needs of South Sudan and seek the joy and excitement of seeing Him act.

ANGOLA

I can do all this through Him who gives me strength — Philippians 4:13 (NIV)

SUNDAY 1 Praise God for the amazing work of The HALO Trust. Its specialist teams carefully detect and clear anti-tank mines that are still left hidden throughout Angola. If trodden on or disturbed, the mines explode, causing death or major injury. The HALO team relies on us to fly them around the country. We’re also on standby in case any team members need an emergency medevac. Give thanks that our partnership with HALO is helping to make the country safer.

MONDAY 2 Today, let’s uphold Corrine Cadinouche, who looks after flight operations for our Angola team, praying for strength, stamina and an awareness of God’s presence.

TUESDAY 3 Please pray for our aircraft maintenance engineers and ground crew. Their expertise is vital in keeping our planes running and ready to serve those in need. We thank God for their skill and their daily attention to detail.

WEDNESDAY 4 Pray for MAF Pilot Marijn Goud, his wife Noortje and their children Judah and Salomé. In 2024, the Goud family moved to a permanent base in the isolated community of Cavango, where Marijn helps the local clinic to provide the surrounding communities with access to healthcare. Pray for this missionary family as they minister to those who've lost children to hunger and disease.

THURSDAY 5 It’s tough living in Angola’s dry and dusty rural areas, where children are especially vulnerable to malnutrition, malaria, diarrhoea and respiratory diseases. Please pray that the Lord will help Angola’s people.

FRIDAY 6 Canadian pilot Andrew Stutzman is responsible for leading training sessions and checking MAF's pilots in flight a necessary part of keeping our flying safe and standardised. Please pray for Andrew and his family, as well as for safe flying.

SATURDAY 7 Please uphold the staff at Cavango Clinic, which is led by Dr Tim Kubacki. We regularly fly essential medical supplies there and often provide emergency airlifts for those who need to go to the main hospital for further treatment. Instead of patients enduring a gruelling ten-hour car journey, our flights take only two hours

CHAD

SUNDAY 8 Praise God that, in just four hours, we were able to fly a doctor to the remote village of Gouro in northern Chad. Without MAF, the journey would have taken days across arduous desert. Thanks to the medic, staff from the clinic there received vital diabetes training which strengthened access to healthcare and education.

MONDAY 9 According to the World Bank’s Human Capital Index, a child born today in Chad will be 70% less productive as an adult compared to children who’ve received quality education and proper healthcare. Please pray that MAF flights will help change this statistic to ensure a more equal world for isolated communities

TUESDAY 10 Give thanks that God facilitated a fortuitous meeting in a cafe between missionary Helene and a group of Christian workers travelling to N’Djamena with MAF. The workers managed to get Helene a seat on our plane so she was spared a 16-hour bus journey over deep potholes and unpredictable terrain

MARCH

WEDNESDAY 11 In Chad, a staggering 94% of all children are unable to read and understand an age-appropriate text by the age of 10. Please pray for the literacy crisis facing the country’s children

THURSDAY 12 Praise God that MAF was able to distribute laptops and projectors to mission partners across Chad. From pastors and chaplains to schools and outreach teams, each device meets a specific need at just the right moment. Pray that these resources will be used to strengthen ministries, share the Gospel and equip communities

And this is the testimony: God

has

given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son — 1 John 5:11 (NIV)

FRIDAY 13 Please pray for our pilots as they fly doctors around some of Chad’s remotest regions. The country has around 4 doctors per 100,000 people. Providentially, our aircraft allow doctors to reach isolated communities outside the capital quickly and safely, so they can administer healthcare

SATURDAY 14 Give thanks for MAF pilots like Tobias Meyer who not only flies but also trains new pilots and manages operations. Pray that God will continue to grant our pilots wisdom, strength and safety as they fly long distances in challenging desert conditions, serving remote and isolated areas.

MADAGASCAR

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us — 1 John 5:14 (NIV)

SUNDAY 15 On this Mothering Sunday, let’s praise God for the gift of motherhood. Being a mother is hard work, but living in remote areas without access to everyday essentials makes things even harder. Uphold these families, praying that we’ll continue to reach the unreachable to help improve their quality of life.

MONDAY 16 Give thanks for all the medevac flights to Antananarivo we provide for remote patients. Our planes enable them to reach hospital safely so they can receive the medical care they need. Pray that these flights will continue to bring help, hope and healing to people in physical and spiritual need

TUESDAY 17 Praise God for pastors like Solofo, the leader of Association Fanavotana – an MAF partner since 2017. Pastor Solofo shares the Gospel and visits prisons across Madagascar, bringing encouragement to many. Please pray for God’s protection in all he does

WEDNESDAY 18 Give thanks that, for decades, we’ve been serving Good News Hospital in Mandritsara. Our planes fly in doctors, supplies and medical support so remote communities can receive not only life-saving care but also the Gospel

THURSDAY 19 In rural Madagascar, healing often happens under the hum of a generator and the glow of a single light bulb. Praise God for our medical partners, who work with generators, headlamps and a few essential machines. May God help them as they operate on patients and provide life-saving treatment in limiting environments

FRIDAY 20 Give thanks that flights in Madagascar have brought sport, discipleship and deep community engagement to Tambohorano, one of the country’s most isolated coastal regions

SATURDAY 21 Give thanks that, after 20 years of pain, a woman has been healed following surgery to treat an obstetric fistula, after an MAF plane flew a team of medical professionals to a remote village in Madagascar. Pray that healthcare becomes more accessible for those living in isolated places

SUNDAY 22 Praise God for those who’ve recently responded to the call to serve with MAF, whether in the UK or overseas. Pray that they’ll be encouraged as they begin their journey, and that God will strengthen their faith during times of uncertainty.

MONDAY 23 Please pray for the recruitment of skilled IT and communications staff. Their behindthe-scenes work is essential for MAF operations worldwide, particularly in our PNG programme. Pray that the right candidates will apply and that our recruitment team will have wisdom as they go through the selection process

TUESDAY 24 Our need for aircraft maintenance engineers particularly experienced ones continues to grow across our programmes. Pray that God will lead committed Christians with the right technical skills towards mission, and that many more will explore training opportunities with MAF.

WEDNESDAY 25 As new vacancies continue to arise in our UK offices, pray that the recruitment process will run smoothly and that potential candidates will have a clear sense of God’s direction. Pray too for all the administration involved in responding to those enquiring about our Engineer and Future Pilot training schemes.

THURSDAY 26 Please pray for upcoming recruitment events where MAF staff share about opportunities to serve overseas. Pray that the right people will attend, that conversations will be Spirit-

FRIDAY 27 Pray for ongoing initiatives to open more pathways for candidates at different levels of qualification to join MAF. Pray for God’s insight, creativity and clarity as we explore new ways of attracting and preparing those with a calling to aviation ministry.

SATURDAY 28 Give thanks for the new staff and families preparing to join our overseas programmes. Pray that they’ll settle into their host countries with peace and joy, and that the friends and family they leave behind will be comforted and supportive during this exciting transition.

SUNDAY 29 Praise God for all those who faithfully pray, give and encourage others to consider serving with MAF. Pray that more people will be stirred to use their professional skills — whether in aviation, engineering, teaching or management — for God’s Kingdom

MONDAY 30 Please pray for those who apply to serve with MAF but aren’t appointed immediately. Pray they will experience God’s peace and will trust His timing and purpose for their lives

TUESDAY 31 Pray for urgent operational roles still waiting to be filled across our global programmes. May God strengthen any staff covering extra duties, providing the right candidates swiftly so MAF’s ministry can continue to grow and thrive
