MAF VISION TRIPS 2015 WELCOME! Thank you for your interest in Missionary Aviation. This letter will provide you with information for the 2015 MAF Vision Trips. If you have further questions please contact John Hook at Jhook@maf.org. We look forward to seeing you this summer.

PURPOSE: To see a cross-section of MAF's ministry, experience life cross-culturally and see a vision of how YOU might fit into Missions.

WHAT DO I NEED TO TRAVEL?

1. A valid Passport where the expiration date is at least

2. 3.

5. 6.

6 months after your departure date from your Vision Trip Country. If you do not have a passport you can download the application from http://travel.state.gov/passport/forms/ds11/ds11_842.html. Note: It can take up to 3 months to receive a passport so be sure to apply for one NO LATER THAN FEBRUARY 15th. If you need to renew a passport and your first passport was issued after the age of 16, you can renew by mail. If your first passport was issued before the age of 16 you will have to present yourself at the local passport office (usually at the Post Office). A Visa - if required by the country you are visiting. MAF will help get the Visa for you, as needed. Travel Insurance – not all travel insurance is created equal so be sure to compare what is covered. We have had good results with Travellex Insurance Services. You can also look into www.MissionTripInsurance.com. You purchase this individually and can be reimbursed from the funds you raise. Round-trip tickets - MAF will purchase your NON-REFUNDABLE tickets once the money is raised. Immunizations appropriate to the country you will visit. These can also be reimbursed from your support account up to $300. NOTE: All expenses for the Vision Trip will be paid from your support account. If there are not enough funds in your account YOU WILL BE PERSONALLY LIABLE for any shortfall.

FINANCIAL AND PRAYER SUPPORT FOR YOUR TRIP: Total cost for the Vision Trip is to be paid by the student or through their support account. MAF cannot buy your airline tickets or request your travel visa, food and housing requests until all travel costs are paid or you have enough in your MAF support account to cover all costs. We strongly suggest you ask others to become partners with you on this trip both through prayer and sharing in the costs. Develop a mailing list that includes your church, friends, relatives and acquaintances and share with them that you feel the Lord is leading you into Missionary Aviation. Once accepted for an MAF vision trip, your financial partners may give to MAF and the funds will accrue in your name for the expenses of your trip. Instruct your donors to make checks out to MAF and include a note that specifies that this donation is for your vision trip. Donors can mail checks to the address below: MAF Attn. Recruiting P.O. Box 47 Nampa, ID 83653

FINANCIAL AND PRAYER SUPPORT FOR YOUR TRIP (cont): If donors would like to give online we will send you a link they can click on to contribute to your vision trip account. Another option is that donors can call 1-800-FLYSMAF and ask for the Donor Services department. Once they are connected with someone from the Donor Service department they can let them know that they would like to contribute to your vision trip. Donors will be sent a tax deductible receipt. MAF will provide you with a list of your donors and the total in your account. Please do use this information to thank donors and keep them updated during and after your trip. This same group of people may someday become your prayer and support partners as an MAF Missionary Pilot.

NOTE: All funds become a part of MAF and may only be used for your approved trip expenses. Any excess funds will belong to MAF and cannot be returned to the student or donor. These rules are in accordance with MAF’s standing as an approved non-profit, 501c3. Please explain this to your supporters.

More definite cost projections will be given to you after you are assigned to a country.

WHEN CAN I GO? Most trips are scheduled during the summer breaks from college, but MAF will consider other requests. MAF may assign you to a group – usually limited to a maximum of ten people. If your college coordinates vision trips, you must be accepted through their system. At that time, please fill out and return the MAF application in order for us to have your information on record. Trips are coordinated through the MAF Recruiting Department. As you get closer to your trip you may be corresponding with the field, but please do not arrange your own trip. Note: Space for these trips will be on a first come first served basis. Priority will be given to college students in Missionary Aviation programs.

WHAT DO I DO NEXT? Please fill out the Registration form, the Emergency Information sheet, and the Authorization to Accept Donated Funds form included with this letter and return to MAF. Please include your $250 registration fee. This fee will be applied to your support account.

TRAVEL HEALTH INFORMATION Malaria- Concerning malaria prevention, taking 100 mg of doxycycline each day is probably the easiest approach. You need to start taking it 3 days before your arrival, take it daily during your time in country and 4 to 6 weeks after your trip. If you find it is too expensive, check to see if you can purchase it in your Vision Trip country. For example, it is readily available in Papua, Indonesia, so you could purchase a 1-2 weeks supply in the states and than buy the rest in Papua. Recommended immunizations: Hepatitis A —It is 2 shot series. If there’s not time to finish the series before departure it will still offer good protection. If you received this vaccination as a child, it is still good; you do not need to do it again. Hepatitis B ----A multiple shot series. Just like the Hep A series, if you aren’t able to finish the series it offers good protection. If you received this vaccination as a child it is still good. Tetanus—You need to have had a booster within the last 5 years. The U.S. standard on this is every 10 years, but for developing countries the recommendation is every 5 years. Typhoid—This is not required, but highly recommended. The capsule form is more effective than the injection. The capsules are to be taken over the course of a week, every other day at approximately the same time. The capsule form is effective for 5 years, the injection is good for 2 years. Yellow Fever—This is required for some South American countries and recommended for certain African countries. Note: Hepatitis A&B, Tetanus and Typhoid are recommended for Indonesia. For all other countries, Tetanus is highly recommended and MAF recommends Hepatitis A& B, but it is not required. Please check with your local travel health clinic or on the Center for Disease Control’s website, www.cdc.gov. The local health department is often the most inexpensive place to get immunizations.
