TheShoalhavenregionemphasizescommunityinvolvementandstakeholder engagementtoenhancehousingqualityandsustainability.Theinitiativefocuseson improvingtownhousedesigns,particularlyforlow-incomeindividuals.Theproposal incorporatesgreenbuildingpractices,privategardens,brickjaliworkfornaturallighting, andphotovoltaicsolarpanelsforcleanenergygeneration.Durableandeco-friendly lightweightmetallicroofingalignswithwastereductiongoals.Akeydesignprincipleis creatingself-sustainingbuildingscapableofenduringvariouscircumstances.Thebuilt formsaredevelopedusinggreenbuildingprinciples,employingrecycled,renewable, andeco-friendlymaterialstominimizeenvironmentalimpact.

SELFSUSTAININGARCHITECTURE

Theprimarydesignprincipleforthebuildingsis self-sufficiency,ensuringtheycanendurevarious circumstancesindependently.Thestructuresare developedusinggreenbuildingprinciples,incorporating recycled,renewable,andeco-friendlymaterials.Theyare alsodesignedtoreducerelianceonelectricalheating, cooling,andlightingsystems.

Privategardensandcourtyardsstrikeabalancebetween greeneryandhabitablespaces,fosteringacloser connectionbetweenindoorandoutdoorenvironments. Thisapproachsignificantlyenhancescomfortby providingamplenaturallightandventilation.

Brickjaliworkservesasascreen,providingvisual transparencywhilereducingdirectradiationby70%.It enhancesarchitecturalfenestration,allowingforbetter naturallightingandventilation.

Metalroofing,ontheotherhand,isnearly100% recyclableattheendofitslifespan,makingitoneofthe mosteco-friendlyroofingsolutionsintermsofwaste reduction.

TheDuneschoolisapreschoolthatisformallyorganisedbythesummerandwinter prevailingwindsacrossthesiteinMaroubra.Windsaresimulatedandvisualisedusing ComputationalFluidDynamics(CFD).Barriersareusedtoblockorencouragewinds acrossthesite.Thesebermsarethenenhancedthroughtheirmateriality(mudbricks curtainbarriers),withtheresultantoutcomechangingwindresistancethroughmaterial textureandporosity.

GROUNDFLOORPLAN

Thefocusonenvironmentalsustainabilityisessential,acknowledgingthatchildren'swell-beingdependsonnatural resources.Contemporaryarchitecturecontributestovariousenvironmentalchallenges,suchaspollution,waste,hazardous materials,resourcedepletion,landusage,andecologicaldamage.Itiscrucialtoanticipateandassesstheenvironmental impactofconstructionbeforehand.

DOMESTICFORMALITIES-FLOODRESILIENT

Lismore'szoningstrategyhighlightsaclearseparationbetweenresidentialand commercialareas,butitseffectivenessisunderminedbythetown'sfloodsusceptibility. Followingamajorfloodin2022,CBDhousingwasrelocated,leavingmanycommercial spacesvacantduetothestrictdivisionbetweenresidentialandbusinesszones.To revitalizeKeenStreet'sCBD,aproposalformultiresidentialdevelopmenthasbeen suggested,seekingtointegrateworkandpersonallifewhilefosteringabalanced coexistenceofpeopleandwater.

AUTONOMOUSHOUSE-SPATIALTYPOLOGY

Thearchitecturaldesignadoptstheserialprogressiontypology,emphasizingcore principlestocreateasingle-levelresidence.Thelayoutensuressmoothtransitions betweenpublic,semi-public,andprivatezonesthroughelevatedsteps,enhancing mobility,airflow,andnaturallight.Spacesareproportionedtooptimizesunlightand climateadaptability.Traditionalelementslikeautoclavedaeratedconcreteand double-glazedwindowsregulateindoortemperaturesyear-round,whileexposedconcrete wallswithtimberaccentsaddaestheticandfunctionalvalue.

Thedesignadoptsaninnovativeapproach,prioritizingthe creationofcomfortableandhealthyindoorenvironments. Bycarefullyarrangingandorientingspacesinalignment withsunlightandlocalclimateconditions,thedesign facilitatesadynamicinteractionbetweenthebuildingand itssite.Thisstrategyaidsinminimizingheatingand cooling demands, harnessing passive solar energy,erosion,andefficientlycapturingandreusing stormwaterwithinthebuilding.
