Vol. 1 The Cropped Sweatshirt This trend has come up recently while the “healthy is beautiful lifestyle is trending. Brands like Badwood, Adidas, Urban Outfitters, Free People, and many more are producing these cropped sweatshirts to speak directly to the fashionably fit people out there. This trend is all about self love and self appreciation. Anyone can wear a cropped hoodie or crew neck during their day to day activities. High end designers have also taken a liking to these cropped sweatshirts as well. The crop allows you to show off your stomach while remaining modest by having the remaining of your torso covered. It is sporty and casual while staying up to date with the latest.
history of the crop
Dating back to ancient Egypt, the crop started as just a breast covering. Through the years it wasn’t seen as something you would wear everyday. When the hippie movement started wearing it in the 60s and 70s it was revolutionary. People saw it as scandalous and outrageous. But as decades passed designers like Versace noticed that the trend wasn’t going anywhere for a long time. Welcome in the 1990s when famous pop starts like Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera would wear nothing but the tummy bearing shirts. These are the times where it really started to take off. To this day we always look back at our idols and appreciate the cropped shirts we all

Vol. 2 The CHOKER SWEATSHIRT The sweatshirt choker has come up over the past couple of years and many are loving it. It adds a sexy effect to loungewear that you don’t get to see all too often. The plunging ‘V’ gives it that seductive, daring look while the choker keeps it sexy while not exposing everything. Mimicking the look of a deep V-neck shirt worn with a choker. A key 1990s styling statement, chokers have seen a pronounced increase in popularity over the past year, spurred by a celebrity-driven culture within the youth market. Slimline bodysuits and shrunken jersey silhouettes are a natural vehicle for this look, while baggier T-shirt shapes feel new in oversized proportions.
history of the choker 80s
Long before they encircled the necks of goth girls in the 1990s or were made popular by the Princess of Wales in the late 1800s, chokers were donned by women in ancient civilizations, worn to protect what even back then they understood to be a very important part of the body, the neck. Chokers were common across other ancient cultures as well, and cycled in and out of style during the most recent centuries in the West—prized for their ability both to conceal the neck and to highlight it. Today they most readily suggest the romantic (and the Romantic). But they also carry a note, visually slicing as they do across the most vulnerable part of the human body, of violence. Being that the choker sweatshirt is a very new trend, I wanted to focus on where we drew the inspiration for the sweatshirt, and that is from the choker jewelry. As soon as chokers came back, it was all about how they made our necks look. In the 80s and 90s it made the goth/ punk group seem edgier, having something tight around their neck. Then transitioning them into clothing only made us love the choker more. The sweatshirt material adds a whole new take on the choker, comfort. It’s not going to be a trend forever, but it sure will be around a long time.

Vol. 3 Vintage comfort Wearing your old college sweatshirt or your boyfriends old band tee is a trend that has been around for a long time. Everyone has an old graphic t-shirt laying around. Graphic tees have been a trend born from celebrity influence since the 70s. The old distressed look of them is channeling that grunge rocker look. You can pair these shirts with just about anything from sweats to a pencil skirt and heels. Its sexy to see a girl in a vintage tee, maybe is has her favorite band on it or something that’ll make you laugh.
history of vintage comfort
The history of the graphic t-shirt is as young as its youthful spirit suggests. Created barely 100 years ago, its evolution from underwear to outerwear encompasses the spirit of American fashion. But it was music that focused attention on the graphic t-shirt as a symbol of cool. The Beatles had jump started the rock and roll era and, as the 60s rolled into the 70s, the bands that followed them issued t-shirts to promote themselves. At the same time, the surf and skate culture of Southern California was rising. Board-centric labels like Stussy, Billabong, Quiksilver and Maui & Sons rose to prominence, with a business driven by t-shirts, making the active west coast lifestyle accessible to everyone. Now a days its really in to still wear that old 80s and 90s vintage tee, but with a bit more distress to show that it was actually made at that time, or at least made to look that way.

Vol. 4 bringing back the basics This style bleeds comfort, and back in the day that’s all it was made for. Sweats started as one of the earliest forms of athletic gear but move off the tracks, into subcultures and eventually found their home in street wear. Today we see the most famous people wearing sweats or sweatshirt material outfits to nice dinners in the tabloids.
history of sweats The first pair of sweatpants was introduced in the 1920s by Émile Camuset. He was the founder of Le Coq Sportif. The sweatpants were simple knitted gray jersey pants that allowed athletes to stretch and run comfortably. Back in the day, sweats were only known as workout gear and something never to be worn out in public and looked at as appropriate. Hollywood made them cool when seen on Johnny Depp in Nightmare on Elm Street and also in all the Rocky movies (including Creed-pictured on the right). Nowadays they are seen as chic street style, and high end designers are taking their turns putting their own twist on sweats.

Vol. 5 sweatshirt dress This trend has come about when people started seeking comfort. They extended the original sweater in order to be able to wear this garment in all seasons. This is getting huge in womens wear street style. It is all about altering a classic to wear it year round.
history of comfort dresses The hoodie was born of modest origins. Champion Products, which began as the Knickerbocker Knitting Company in 1919, claims to have made the first hooded sweatshirt. Originally a sweater mill, Champion began making sweatshirts in the early 1930s once it developed methods to sew thicker underwear material. Nowadays we have altered the classic hoodie to fit our daily needs. Making it a new style that everyone is pining over.

Vol. 6 shortsleeved sweatshirt This trend, is unisex, but more loved by men due to its origins is an awesome take on a classic again. Similar to a take on the hoodie into a dress, it is another alteration to a classic. Men and women are chopping the sleeves off of their sweatshirts to create a unique look. And today they don’t have to do it themselves anymore due to the fact that designers are loving the look and putting it in stores.
history of thick short sleeves
Rocky first sported this look in the movie. The sweatshirt was cropped so that sweat wasn’t absolutely everywhere. It allowed ventilation so your skin could breathe. A lot of the time it was paired with a long sleeve t shirt or another sweatshirt under to combat the outdoors. New technology in fabrics were not really a thing yet. They have evolved into awesome street wear and designers RTW collections. Evolving into a staple in both men and womens closets.
