We were more than half way into our production cycle of this issue of the Shield when the severe weather and resulting systemic power and water outages rocked Austin and the rest of Texas, so we had to make some changes for this issue to reflect the most recent local news. Our cover and top news story is about SNOVID 2021 or the Austin snowpocalypse, whatever you want to call it, and how it affected our readers. We felt like we had a pretty good issue before that chock full of profile coverage of the students at our school and what makes them who they are. We take a critical look at the Texas Education Agency's puzzling decision to mandate an in-person administration of the STAAR test with a worldwide pandemic still in session. We celebrate the life of Connor Hughes (Class of 2018) and the boys basketball team's historic first-round playoff victory. All of this and more in the third issue of the school year and the first of 2021.
