The Dangers of Buying Online

#1 - Danger for Your Baby When you buy baby items over the Internet, these products are sent to you by companies like UPS or Federal Express, which will not send these items separately from other baby products.

The big concern here is that toxic materials may leak into the items used to care of your baby: baby bottles, chairs, etc. Even if your package doesn’t show visible damage or evidence of leaks, there is still a chance of possible contamination.

Packages can also be treated violently by transportation companies. Every day, we have customers reporting broken products. When you buy online, you won’t know whether the product will arrive damaged, wet or contaminated. For all these reasons, we recommend shopping at our store. If you cannot buy in our store, we will send products to us, but we only use companies that charge extra protection fees for their safeguarding measures - sent separately from any other product.

#2 - Safety Many sites that sell baby products are NOT authorized resellers, because to be an Authorized Dealer most baby manufacturers require a company have at least one physical store. If you buy product from a company that is not an Authorized Dealer, it does not carry the factory warranty.

Infant CPR We’d all like to think that we’ll never be put in the position of having to save our baby’s life, but it could happen. Babies choke on food and toys, slip under the water in the tub or a pool, and get caught in drawstrings and curtain cords.

If your baby is ever choking or suddenly lifeless, you’ll want to know what to do. We’ve compiled this step-by-step guide to explain the basics of first aid for choking and CPR, but please don’t rely on it as your sole source of information.

Set aside a few hours to take an infant and child CPR course to learn and practice the proper techniques. These techniques differ depending on the age of the child, and doing them improperly can be harmful.

Find a class in your area by contacting your local chapter of the American Red Cross at www.redcross.org.

Choking Step 1: Assess the situation quickly.

Step 2: Try to dislodge the object with back blows and chest thrusts.

How to Give CPR Step 1: Check your baby’s condition.

Step 2: Open your baby’s airway.

Step 3: Give two gentle breaths.

Step 4: Give 30 chest compressions.

Step 5: Repeat compressions and breaths.

Car Seat Chart All children under 13 should be properly restrained in the back seat in the appropriate restraint for their age and size.

When children outgrow their booster seats they can use the adult seat belt in the back seat, if it fits properly (lap belt lays across the upper thighs and the shoulder belt fits across the chest).

A child using a seat belt should be able to sit all the way back against the vehicle seat back with knees bent comfortably over the edge of the seat.

Make sure children get to the school bus stop on time, wait five giant steps away from the road and avoid rough play.

Teach children to always ask the driver for help if they drop something near the bus. Remind children to only cross in front of the school bus when the driver tells them it is safe to cross and to always look for traffic as they cross the street.

Parents often think children are able to cross the street by themselves before they are ready. Children usually don’t have such skills until at least age 10.

Once children outgrow their forward-facing seats, they should ride in booster seats, in the back seat, until the vehicle seat belts fit properly.

Seat belts fit properly when the lap belt lays across the upper thighs and the shoulder belt fits across the chest.

Bicycle riders should always wear helmets. Make sure the helmet fits low on the forehead so that only two fingers fit between it and the eyebrows.

When children outgrow their rear-facing seats they should ride in forwardfacing child safety seats, in the back seat, until they reach the upper weight or height limit of the particular seat.

Before crossing the street, parents and children should stop and look left–right–left to see if any cars are coming.

Wait until all cars have passed and then quickly cross, looking both ways as you do so.

For the best possible protection, keep infants in the back seat, in rear-facing child safety seats, as long as possible up to the height or weight limit of the particular seat.

Baby (or infant-only) Car Seats: These should always face the rear of the car. They have a weight limit of between 22 and 35 pounds.

When your baby reaches the weight or height limits for his infant seat, move him to a rear-facing convertible car seat.

Convertible (infant-toddler) Car Seats: These function as both rear-facing seats for babies and toddlers and forward-facing seats for older children. Many new ones are designed to hold a child of up to 40 lbs. rear-facing and 70 lbs. forwardfacing. It’s safest to leave your child rear-facing as long as possible — in fact, the latest guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) say to keep your child in a rear-facing car seat until the age of 2, or until he reaches the seat’s maximum rearfacing height and weight limits.

Belt-positioning Booster Seats: These seats are for kids who are at least 3 and weigh at least 40 pounds. They use the regular in-car shoulder belts to secure the child. Backless boosters are fine when used with a seat that provides head support. (The American Academy of Pediatrics does not recommend shield boosters, intended for use with lap belts and for chil dren under 40 pounds; the AAP recommends that all children under 40 pounds ride in a convertible or forward-facing car seat.)

An infant in a rear-facing child safety seat must never ride in the front seat of a vehicle with an active passenger air bag.
