Welcome

Welcome to Macomb

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Macomb, a great place to live, work, shop and learn. We’re glad you’re here!

If you are looking to make Macomb your new home, we have a great quality of life that we are anxious to share. Our neighborhoods range from new construction to turn-of-the-century Victorian homes and Macomb’s educational opportunities are outstanding. Our school district is committed to offering the highest quality education and Macomb is home to two institutions of higher learning: Spoon River College and Western Illinois University (WIU). WIU has a decade long tradition of being nationally recognized as a “Best Midwestern University”. Cultural and family-oriented events are scheduled year-round, both in our Historic Downtown and on WIU’s campus, for the entertainment of Macomb’s residents as well as those in the surrounding area. Macomb is also home to one of the region’s premier medical facilities, McDonough District Hospital (MDH). The hospital has recently completed two significant projects designed to ensure quality medical care for our residents; an Emergency Department expansion as well as opening a new wing dedicated to Women’s Health and an enhanced Obstetrics/Birthing experience. MDH has a long, rich tradition of bringing quality and diverse medical care to Macomb and the surrounding area. We have an outstanding manufacturing base, which includes Pella Windows, NTN-Bower Corporation, and Yetter Manufacturing Corporation. If you are a prospective new business owner, we have several thriving and developing commercial corridors. Our Historic Downtown area is filled with a variety of shops and restaurants, making it an attractive and friendly environment.

Macomb, being the county seat for McDonough County, is home to the McDonough County Courthouse located in the center of the Historic Downtown square. Within walking distance of the downtown area is Macomb’s City Hall, the Amtrak Station, Western Illinois Museum, a recently expanded Macomb Public Library and historic Chandler Park, which is the setting for many of our annual outdoor events. If you are visiting Macomb, either for personal reasons or on business, please take time to browse through the local merchant’s shops, enjoy one of the many restaurants and contemplate how your visit might turn into an inquiry about a move to make Macomb - a picturesque, Midwestern community - your new home. There is a lot in store for Macomb as we continue to move forward and attract business and industry to the area. I hope you enjoy Macomb and come to appreciate its uniqueness and quality of life. Without a doubt, this is an exciting time to be in Macomb. I extend to you a heartfelt and enthusiastic WELCOME!!

Sincerely,

Michael J. Inman, Mayor

Healthcare

MDH A Source of Healing, Caring, and Hope for More Than 60 Years www.MDH.org, or Facebook (McDonough District Hospital), Twitter/Instagram (MDH_Hospital) While the health care industry has changed immensely, McDonough District Hospital (MDH) has remained constant in its commitment to providing health care in an atmosphere of healing, compassion, and caring. The origins of McDonough District Hospital began in 1954, when a community poll was held to determine the public interest of either spending $264,000 for a renovation of St. Francis Hospital, or spending $1,000,000 to build a new hospital. Upon completion of the postal poll, area residents voiced their overwhelming support for a new community hospital and a subsequent referendum authorizing the establishment of MDH. Exactly two years from its ground-breaking ceremony, McDonough District Hospital opened its doors. Now, 61 years later, more than 34 doctors currently have MDH privileges along with an additional 17 advanced practitioners. A total of 571 people were employed at McDonough District Hospital during Fiscal Year 2019. The hospital has continued to maintain a Gold Seal of Approval from the Join Commission; the leading accrediting body of hospitals nationwide and has earned several accolades over the years. The MDH Hospice program has also been recognized by HEALTHCAREfirst as a Hospice Honors Elite recipient for the fourth consecutive year, and earned Elite status for the second year. The program is one of only three hospice programs throughout Illinois named as an Honors Elite recipient. MDH is also in its 21st year as a member of the OSF Stroke Network, an added component of again meeting the requirements to be designated as an Acute StrokeReady Hospital. Additionally, since 2002 the Diabetes Education Center’s self-management education service has been recognized by the American Diabetes Association (ADA).

The MDH Medical Group provides more than 20 physicians and advanced practitioners covering ten different services and specialties to meet patient needs, including a walk-in clinic available for patients seven days a week. In 2015, a three-floor expansion was completed which included a new Emergency Department offering ten large private treatment rooms, direct access to diagnostic technology, spacious waiting area, pediatric waiting area, and vending and comfort room for families in a crisis

McDonough District Hospital has been a source of

healing, caring, and hope since we first opened our doors to the people of western Illinois in 1958. Through the years, we have continually expanded our high quality services for people at all stages of their lives. While our services have advanced, our commitment to providing healthcare in an atmosphere of compassion and caring has remained constant. Our doctors, nurses, and staff provide our patients and their families continuity of care, close to home — making McDonough District Hospital our community’s first choice in healthcare.
