Abouttheproject

The Daylesfordto Hanging Rock and Kyneton Rail Trail will see the development of a unique combination of railtrail and shared use trails. The Macedon Ranges Shiresection of the shared trail project isTylden toHanging Rock and Kyneton. These willlink communities through safe and enjoyable trails, inviting both locals and visitors to shareour special landscape and distinctive areas.

Council has agreed with Hepburn Shire Council to partner on the planning and delivery of this trail as ajoint project.

Benefits

 The trailwill provide the community and users with a unique trailexperience linking rural landscapes, towns and heritagethrough the Macedon Ranges areas of Hanging Rock, Woodend, Kyneton, Carlsruhe andTylden (then on to neighbouring Daylesford in Hepburn Shire).

 Attract between 4,460 and 6,690 annual visits by local residents.

 Increased domestic and international visitors tothe shire, particularlyfor nature-based tourism; estimated at an additional 31,300 to 62,580 per annum.

 Increased appreciation and knowledge of our biodiversity, distinctive areas and significant landscapes.

 Increased economic yieldfor local businesses, including generating $2 million to $4 million per annum in direct and indirect expenditure.

 Increased supportfor the local economy, including 25 to 51 newjobs.

 Improved opportunityfor physical activity for all ages.

Projectstage

Initial feasibility study complete. Next step is to complete the detailed design work, including the next stage of planning, permits, assessments and land owner/land manager negotiations.
