Airmenassignedtothe6thCivilEngineerSquadronexplosiveordnancedisposalunitwashtheirequipmentduring achemicalordnance responseassessmentatMacDillAirForceBaseAug.21.EODtechnicianswiththe6thCES wereevaluatedontheirproficiencyin renderingchemicalordnancessafeinanyenvironment.Thetechnicianswore aHazardousMaterialsProtection LevelBsuitwhichiscomposedofachemical resistant materialwithahood,aselfcontainedbreathingapparatus,innerand outerchemical resistantgloves,and chemical resistant safetyboots.
U.S. Air ForceStaffSgt. Juan“RC”RamirezCeballosisanin-flightrefuelerwiththe91st AirRefuelingSquadronhere. Afterretraining fromtheservicescareerfield,hehasfoundhis calling on theKC-135Stratotanker.
“I wasborninArmenia,Colombia,andI was broughtto America whenI wassevenyears old,” saidRC “IinitiallyenlistedwhenI was18 withoutaspecificAir Forcejobandspentmy firstfouryearsintheservicesfield. Ijoinedthe Air Forcetogivebacktothecountrythathas givenmeeverything.”
RCenlistedin2016,wherehereceivedhis firstassignmentto JointBaseCharleston, South Carolina. He hasonetake-away after learningtodoeveryjobintheservicesfield.
“Weareallapartofsomethinggreater,” said RC. “Myfavoritepartaboutmyjobthere was howimportantit was. Everythingwedid,dayin anddayout,itmattered. Thetrainingexercises, thejobswedo, itaffectsnotonlyourselves, itaffectsthe wholeworld.”

ARLINGTON, Va. (AFNS)—TheAir Forceannouncedthe2024promotionboardscheduleAug. 22,whichmarksthetransition to align mostpromotionboardswiththeirassociatedevaluation closeoutdates.
Withthecompletionofestablishingofficerstatic closeoutdates, or SCODs, thisyear, nextyear’sboardscheduletakesanincrementalstep toapredictableschedulethatensuresofficershaveanevaluation withinsixmonthsofpromotionboards. Thealignmentoftheevaluation withinsixmonthsofthepromotionboard wasalreadyinplaceforall Air Forceenlistedpromotionboards.
“MaximizingalignmentofpromotionboardstoSCODsrepresents a strategicsteptowardenhancingourtalentmanagement decisions,” said Deputy ChiefofStaffforManpower,Personneland Services Lt. Gen. CarolineMiller. “Thisalsoprovidestransparency andconsistencythat arecornerstonesof ourpromotionandevaluationsystem.”
Duringthistransitionyear, themajorLAF-A/C/I/F/Nboardsthat
wouldhaveconvenedtowardtheend2024 willshifttoconvenein January/February2025,resultinginnomajor boardin 2024.Eligibility, basedondatesofrankandprojected pin-ondateswillremainunchanged Allfuturemajor LAF-A/C/I/F/Nboardsareplannedtoconvene thesametimeeachyear.
Additionally, thelieutenantcolonelLAF-A/C/I/F/N/Xboardsthat wouldhaveconvened in springof2025,willnowconveneinNovember 2024,resultingintwolieutenantcolonelLAF-A/C/I/F/N/Xboardsin 2024.Likethemajor’sboard,eligibility, basedondatesof rankandprojectedpin-ondateswillremain unchanged. Allfuturelieutenantcolonel LAF-A/C/I/F/N/Xboardsareplannedtoconvenearoundthesametime eachyear.

Thetwo-dayeventheld onAug. 22-23,highlightedtheAMC-wideefforttopromote WarriorHeartcultureandintroducedAirmen, spouses andcivilianstotheconceptofmindfulnessandhowitisintegraltotheir performance, well-being, and abilityto thrivethrough adversity.
“What we’re tryingtogetafterwiththiseffortisacultural change,” saidretired U.S. Air ForceLt. Col., Dr. JannellMacAulay, Ph.D.,leadershipandperformanceconsultant.“It’sanew wayofseeinghowweperformandhowwefaceadversity.”

Rather than simplycreatingaprogram, the primaryobjectiveistodismantlestigmas and obstaclesthatimpedethecultivationofamentallyrobustforce “A lotoftimesotherprogramsaretalkingtopeopleandtellingthem whattothinkandwhattodo,” Brinkleysaid.“WarriorHeartisdifferent inthesensethatithasanintrospectiveaspectwhereyouevaluatethe effectivenessofyouractionsandhowyourattributesaremovingyourlife forward.”
Theprogramseeks toenhancetheperformanceofmembersbynot onlyprovidinginformation,butteachingindividualshowtoapplyinformationinorder to transform an organization.

iletrainingplatformtoincreaseunderstandingofeachotherandredefineour cultureto ensureourforcesarepreparedforthenextfight.”
Throughoutthenineseminars, the WarriorHeartinitiativefocusedon takingleadersandteamsthrough a transformationaljourneyofself-reflectiontolearnactionableskillstomaster theirinternalenvironment,command theirmindset, andelevatetheirperformance.
“We wanttostartinvestingintrainingourmindslikeweinvestintrainingour bodiesandourcraft,” MacAulaysaid “Althoughthisiskindofanew concepttomilitarymembers, I’mtryingtogivethemthetangibleskillsets thatwillbenefitnotonlythemselves, buttheirAirmen.”
Leadersandteamsarebetterpoised to overcome challenges, elevatetheir performance, andfosterenduring well-beingwithintheirunitsandlives byfosteringaculturethatprioritizes mindfulness.

Retrainingasaboomoperatorhasallowedmetosee theimpactofwhattheydo everyday.”

“Nothingcomparestoseeingajetflyinghundredsof milesperhourtrailingabout30-40feetbehindyou,countingonyoutohelpthemcompletetheirmission.It’sexhilarating.”
RChasalsobeen a First TermAirmanCourseinstructor, wherehementorednewAirmencomingintoMacDill onthecustomsandcourtesies, benefits, andideasthat they willneedthroughouttheirAir Forcecareer.

Assomeonewhohasservedinmultiplerolesandcareers, SSgtRamirez-Ceballosbelievesinhelpingpeople andhasseentheimpactAirmenhaveontheworld.He smileswhen he putshisbootsoneveryday, andremains excitedto get outthere andmakeadifference.
“Igaveatalk earlierthismorningandsomebodyaskedme whyI wasgetting readyfor warwithChina,” Kendallsaid.“WhywouldI want warwithChina?Idonot a warwithChina.Nobody wantsa warwithChina,butthe waytopreventoneisfor ustorespond.Letthemknowwewillfight,andifwedo, wewillwin.”
Kendall closedhisremarks with gratitudetoenlistedAirmenandGuardians.
“Ihadn’tgottentoknowtheNCOcorpsoftheAir ForceandtheSpace Forceuntil morerecently,” Kendallsaid.“Iamincrediblyimpressedwithyou. Youareamazingly professional,amazinglyproficienttechnically, greatteamplayers—wehavethehumancapitalweneedtobesuccessful.”
Bassemphasizedtheneedforstandardsanddisciplineamidrisingsecurity challenges.
“A strongmilitaryisadisciplinedmilitaryandwearethestrongestAir Forcein theworldbecauseofourcommitmenttodisciplineandhighstandards,” Basssaid. “Ournationiscountingonustobethe ForceoftheFutureandreadynow. AsAirmen, wecanneverforgetthatweserveinaProfessionofArms—ahighercalling.”
Bassalsospokeon the ForceoftheFutureanditsroleinnationaldefense.
“Makenodoubtaboutit,” Basssaid.“Theforcewehavetodayandthe Forceofthe Futureisan operational imperative.”
Inkeepingwiththeconference’sthemeof“BacktoBasics,” Bassprovidedadditionaldetailsonthe ForceDevelopmentEcosystemtohelpbuildthenextgeneration ofstrong, informed,empoweredenlistedAirmen.
“Howwe recruit, train and retainthetalentthatweneedabsolutely matters,” Basssaid.“Wemustallfocusonaccelerating changeandmodernizingaforcein a worldthatisrapidly changing Ourstrengthliesinourunityandourabilitytogrow
