






WASHINGTON(AFNS)—Reemphasizinga criticaljointpartnershipinall-domain warfare, Air ForceChiefofStaffGen.CQBrown,Jr. met withhisfellowservice chiefsfromtheArmy, Navy, MarineCorpsandSpace Force June24 toshareadvancementsanddiscussthe wayforwardastheservicesworktogethertocontinue cultivatingcommongroundon JointAll-Domain CommandandControl.
ThemeetingfocusedontheDefenseDepartment’sprogressandprojectionsfor JADC2in ordertoidentifyopportunitiesfortheservices toaligntheirdevelopmentaleffortsandtoidentifytheobstaclesthatmayfrustratemovingforwardtoachievetheobjectivesof JADC2insupportofthejointforce.
Theseniorleaderssharedtheirviewson areasofcommonagreementaswellasareas wheredivergenceinindividualserviceefforts isappropriate. Inthisdiscussion,eachofthe servicesidentifiedseveralareasonwhichthey mustfocusinordertorealizetheintentbehind JADC2–tocreateandmaintainapersistent
connectioninordertosharedataacrossthe jointforce.
Additionally, afterayearofbaselineactivities insupportofthe JADC2StrategyandImplementationPlan,the chiefsdiscussedtheneed foramoredevelopedConceptofOperations, orCONOPS, forafuturejointfightagainst a peercompetitor, whichiscurrentlyfraughtwith challengeswhenforcesbecomedisconnected fromglobalcommunicationsnetworks. ThecreationofaCONOPSforcommandandcontrol ofthejointforceisanessentialstepforwardin creatingdecisionadvantage.
“AstheAir Forcedevelops(AdvancedBattle ManagementSystem)inourefforttoachieve informationanddecisionadvantagebydeliveringrelevantdata,informationandcapabilities to warfightersatallechelons, wemustworktogetherwithoursisterservicesandtheDoDto ensureweconnectoursensorsandplatforms andshareourdataaspartofajointforce,” Brownsaid. “Meetingsliketheoneweheldtodayareimportanttoensurewecontinuetostay alignedwhenitcomesto JADC2–whereweare collectivelyandwherewearegoing.”

ThenewALEPdayspectaclesprotectanindividual’scentralandperipheralvisionagainstdirectandreflectedexposuretolasers ThenewestALEPenhancementincludesdye-infusedlensesthatdefendagainst abroader spectrumofrays.

The6thFSSrecognizedthegrowingdemandforIDcards, including
anincreaseincustomerinquiriesandweretasked to findasolution.
“Withover50,000annualvisitorscomingfromallaroundtheState ofFlorida, ourmaingoalistooptimizeourcommunicationandservice deliveryforourcustomers,” saidCapt. JoeyAbelon,theMilitary PersonnelFlightCommander.
“Werealizedweneededtofind waystokeepupwithphone calls, emailsandin-personcustomerinquirieswiththeresourceswehad,” said Abelon.“I challengedmyflighttocomeupwithaninnovativesolution toourcomplexproblemandthey rosetothe challengewiththeCall Center.”
TheMPFCustomerSupportteamledthe chargewiththeassistance ofthe6th CommunicationsSquadrontoimplementtheCallCenterto betterservice TeamMacDill.

U.S. Air Force Tech Sgt. JamalBrowne, anaircraftstructuralmaintenancecraftsmanassigned to the6thMaintenanceSquadron,believesthenewinnovationswillsavethe6thMXStonsofmanhoursby breakingdownlesseasily, andbeingfaster and lesslaborintensiveto moveandreplace.
“Itcouldtakeacrew chiefanywherebetween20and40minutesto removethecurrentpanels,” Brownesaid.“With thenutplate, we’re lookingataremovaltimeof10minutes, which savesthecrew chiefs a lot of heartache.”
U.S. Air ForceLt. Col. Taylor Johnston, an innovationofficerassignedtothe6thARW, wasoneofthemaincoordinatorsofthisconference.
“AirMobilityCommandandGlobalStrikeCommandveryrarely worktogether, butwewereabletotakeonebrilliantideafromasmall company, andimplementittohelpbothofourwingsout,” said Johnston.“Using availableresourcestomakerealandlastingimpactis whatMacDilldoes. Inthelastsixmonths, we’vegonefromoneinnovationprogramonbaseto10,andwe’veseenoverhalfamilliondollars ofinputsinceAugust of lastyear.”
Johnstonsaidthemainprioritiesforinnovationarecreatingpartnershipswithsmallbusinessesandlocaltalent, aswellassolving problems or solutionswitheithermoney, tech,orprocesses.

Asafelonyoffense, laseringaircraftcarriesamaximumsentenceoffiveyearsin prisonanda$250,000fine. The FAAand U.S. Air Forcearecontinuouslydedicatedto stoppingthisactivitytoprotectpilotandaircrew members’eyes.
Providingaircrewmemberswiththelatestprotectiveequipmenttostaysafeagainst thethreatsofunwantedharmfullasers, thetestsquadronsinitiatedalarge-scaleassessment of theproductinmultiplemilitaryaircrafttypesatvariouslocationsbeginningwiththe6thAirRefueling Wing’sKC-135s.
“What we’relookingforisawell-integratedsystemandmission,” said2ndLt. Naomi Cuadrado, atestengineerassignedtothe28thTES. “Ourgoalistofully understand theeffectivenessofthisdeviceineveryairframethatitisfielded to.”
Cuadradoincludedthatthetestingisbeingcompletedinphases, withtheKC-135 Stratotanker, B-52Stratofortress, C-17Globemasterandadditionalaircraft during phaseone. Aircrewassignedtotheseaircraftshouldexpecttobeissuedtheimproved ALEPdevicesby Decemberofthis year.

SeniorAirmanCharlieStenlund,a weather shoptechnician,spokeabout their unit’s mission.“Wepredict the future, using sciencetoback itup.”
TampaBayisencasedbyconstantmoistureandinstabilityinthesummertime. “We’resurroundedby water, andthenwe’resurroundedbyeven more water,” saidStenlund.“It’stheperfectrecipeforlightningstorms.”

Ouroperationscanbeheavilyinfluencedbyourdynamicweather. So howdowestaysafefromlightning, bothforthesafetyofourpeopleand thesuccessofourmissions?
We havesensorsontherunwaysthatdetectlightning. Thisfixedmeteorologicalequipment, or “FMR,” andtacticalmeteorologicalequipment, or“TMR,” tellsuswheneverlightningstrikesupto50nauticalmiles frombase.
Ourweatherairmenstudymeteorologicalpatterns, monitorweather equipment,androutinelyspeaktopilotstoensuretheystaysafefrom anyinclementweather.
“Youcannevergetcomplacentbecauseof TampaBay’sreputationas thelightningcapital,” saidBaker “Theweatherherewillalwayskeep youonyourtoes.”
The6OSS/OSWisinsertedintothedecision-makingprocessofour flyingoperations, assistingwithplanningandentrustedbyleadershipto keepourplanes, pilots, andpersonnelsafefromharm,ensuringweare abletodeliverunmatchedairrefuelingworldwide.
