InanefforttoalignwiththeAir Force’sEnlisted ForceDevelopment (EFD)ActionPlan,theIntegratedResilienceOfficeisofferingaprofessional diametricsprogram(PDP)ProScanand TeamScanforAirmen lookingtobetterthemselvesandtheirunits.

TheIROteamisatotalforcecollaborationofAirmenandcivilians withexpertiseinbuildingphysical,mental,socialandspiritualresiliencethroughcollaborationwithhelpingagenciesandcoordinatedactivities.

HeadingthePDPProScan TeamisStephanie Wynn,6thARWIRO communitysupportcoordinatorandPDPleadtrainer Wynnhasworked acrosstheAir ForcebringingprogramslikePDPtoinstallationspursuingtheEFDActionPlaninitiatives. SinceherarrivalatMacDill,158 personnelfrom10differentworkgroupshavetakenthe assessment andseen theresultsofthe program.

SANANTONIO—Nearly200AirandSpace Forceinstallationleaders gatheredinSanAntonioApril11-13forthe Air ForceInstallationand MissionSupport Center 2023MissionSupportLeaders’Summit.

Withathemeof“StrengtheningtheDepartmentoftheAir Force’s PowerProjectionPlatforms,” thesummitfosteredcollabo-rationasthe groupdiscussedtrendsandissuesimpactingtheinstallationandmission supportcommunity.

Applicantsmustmeetbasicofficer eligibilityrequirementsandpossessdemonstratedcybersecurityorcyber operationsexpertisethroughadvancedacademicdegrees, relevantindustry experience, orprofessionalcertifications.

TheCDCPaimstoaddmorecyberprofessionalstothe U.S. Air Forceandprovidethemwithadirectpathway to success. Byallowing individualstostarttheirmilitarycareerswithoutcompletingalengthycommissioningprocess, theprogramhopestorecruitthenextgenerationofcybersecurityprofessionals.

LeveragingCyberDirectCommissioningauthority, the Air Forcehasacquiredhighlytalentedcyberprofessionalstoaddressemergingcyberoperationalrequirements. In January2023,theserviceselectedeightCDCPcandidates asCyberspace WarfareOperationOfficers. Additionally, the boardconsideredandrecommendedall eightcandidatesfor constructiveservicecredit.

“We’reseekingthebesttalent acrossAmericatojoinour Air Forcetoserveascyberspaceofficers,” said Brig. Gen. In2022, thedepartment releaseditsClimateActionPlan,whichlaysoutanenterprise-wide approachtoensurepolicies, technology, andoperationsalignwithits missionandpriorities. Astheoperatingenvironment changes, thedepartmentis respondingtocurrentvulnerabilitieswhile strategically planningfor the future.

AftersevereimpactsfromCategory5HurricaneMichaelin2018,TyndallAir ForceBase, Florida,isrebuildingitsfacilitiestowithstandmore frequentandintensehurricaneforceswhiledesigningtocreatesocial andenvironmental benefitsfortheinstallationandthelocalcommunity.

Coinedthe“InstallationoftheFuture,” thisbasewillbethefirstof itskindintheDepartmentofDefense. Baseinitiativesincludelocatingfunctionsinto“missioncampuses”toimprovespace efficiencyand effectiveness;usingnaturalinfrastructuretocombatfloodandcoastal erosion threats; buildingmicro-grid architecturewith renewable and traditionalenergypowergenerationassetsdistributedthroughoutthe grid; andcreating walkablecampusestoconnectbetter working, living, andcommunityareas. TheInstallationoftheFuturewillforgethe DoD’spathand provideamodelfor U.S. alliesandpartners.

TheDepartmentoftheAir Forceinvestsinalternativeenergytechnologiesthathelpstrengtheninstallationandgridresiliencewhilereducingitsenvironmentalfootprint.Thedepartmenthas337activerenewableenergyprojectsacross115sites, spanningsolar, wind,biomass, andgroundsourceheat pumpeffortsandrecentlycompletedoneof thelargestsolarprojectsinthenationatEdwardsAFB, California.The

projectbolsters commercialgridresilienceandwillhavethecapability topowerover164,000homesanddisplacemorethan320,000tonsof CO2annually.

WholisticcareoftheplanetrequirestheDepartmentoftheAir Force tonotonlymitigateandadapttoa changingenvironment,but also protectandrestoretheover9million acresoflanditmanages.

At JointBaseAnacostia-Bolling, Washington, D.C.,the11thCivilEngineerSquadronconservationteamis partneringwiththeAnacostia Watershed Society torestorethe District’s nativefreshwatermussel populationsinthe PotomacandAnacostiaRivers. Utilizingits3.5miles of waterfrontproperty, theinstallationdeployedafreshwatermussel ‘nursery’initsmarina. Oncefullygrown,themusselswillberelocated toanearbyreef, wheretheywillhelpfilterriver waterandrevitalize theAnacostia Watershed at large

“I’ve hadsupervisorskeepacopyofthe Quickviewreport,which is aone-pagesummary, ofeachoftheirAirmen,” said Wynn. “That waywhensomeonestartsstruggling withsomething, thatsupervisorisabletounderstandtheperson’sthoughtprocess withonequickscanofthedocument.Thatmethodhasworkedgreatbecauseit’sone moretoolthatsupervisors areabletouse to reframeaconflictbeforeit develops any further.”

Followingtheassessment,participants ororganizationsmay chooseatwoorfour hourtrainingsession, atwhichpointthey’lldiscusswhattheresultsmeanandhow theycanbeapplied. Thegoalis toallowtheparticipanttodevelopaplantobetter understandhowtheycanbestutilize theirstrengthstoachievetheirmissionin work andlife.

Inaddition,the IROoffersa teamdynamicreport,called TeamScan, whichissetup toevaluateteamdynamics. Theresultsofeachindividualexaminationare compiled foranoverallteam chartthatpaintsapictureofhowtheteamisfunctioning. Thisaddressessomeofthestrengths theteam has andmapsoutpotential conflictsthatmay arise as aresultofconflictingbehavioraltraits and stressors.

Atitscore, thePDPProScanand TeamScanaredesignedtohelpAirmenbetterunderstandthemselvesandtoworkbetterwithoneanother. Wynn claimsthekeystohealthy andsuccessfulrelationshipsistounderstandyourselffirst,thenthosearoundyou,be thatyourworkteamoryourfamily. Wynncontinues, themoreopenpeopleareabout themselvesthemoreproductivecommunicationwillbeandthelessconflictwillarise.

“Ibelievein this programsomuch thatwhenIfirstmetwithmysupervisorhere, I gavehimacopyofmyPDPProScanQuickviewresults,” said Wynn.“I toldhim‘thisis meinanutshell,’thatonesheet gavehimeverythingheneededtoknowabouthow I functionand communicate.”

ProgramslikePDPlooktodevelopAirmenina waythatalignswiththe EFDAction Plan’s non-traditionaleducationbyproviding“opportunitiesandcontentbeyondtraditional classes, courses, andschools.” Theseprogramsserveasatestamenttothe 6th ARW’scontinual investmentintheirenlistedAirmenatevery rank.

TheIROteam,alongwiththeotherhelpingagencies, iscontinuallyfacilitatingprogramsdesignedto createahealthierandmoreinclusiveworkspace.
