The509thWPSisoneof21WPS’thatarepartofthe U.S. Air Force WeaponsSchoollocatedatNellisAFB, Nevada,underthe57th Wing.Thesesquadronshost23 weaponssystemsthattrainuniquecapabilities, includingagilecombatemployment,intelligence, surveillance, andreconnaissance;nucleardeterrence, globalreach, commandandcontrol,specialoperations, andpersonnel recovery.
Upongraduation,thepilotsandin-flightrefuelingspecialistsreceivethe WeaponsSchoolpatchsignifyingthey arecapableofbuildingateampreparedforanycorefunction.

Further, shesaid,“OurGlobalMobilityCapacityincludesconveyancesandplatformsthatmovetroops, supplies, fuel,andequipment throughglobaltransportationnetworks, suchasrail,motortransport, sealift,airrefueling, andairlift.”
ShestressedwhileDOD’sprogrammedresourcesmaintainthecommand’sreadinessandpreservestrategicdecisionspace, continuedCongressionalsupportforthemobilityrecapitalizationeffortsiscrucialto effectivelyoperateinafuturecontestedlogisticsenvironment.
“By2032,approximately70percentofgovernment-ownedsurgesealiftshipswillapproachthe endoftheir servicelifeandmustbereplaced;theairrefuelingfleetremainsourmoststressedfleetunder wartimeconditions;andgiventhe U.S. asymmetricadvantageinstrategicairlift,coupledwiththecontinuedhighdemandsplacedonthis fleet,weshouldanticipatetheneedtorecapitalizeandmodernizethis strategiccapability,” VanOvostwroteinhersubmittedstatement.
AddressingGlobalCommand,Control,andIntegration,shesaidit remainscentraltoTRANSCOM’sabilitytoalignscarcemobilityresourceswiththehigheststrategicpriorities.
“Ourabilitytocommandandcontrolmobilityforcesisenabledby
aportfolioofinformationtechnology(IT)systemsandiscontingent onsecurenetworksandcontinuousdigitalmodernizationefforts,” said VanOvost.“Cyberresiliencyanddigitalmodernizationinitiativeswill remainatoppriorityforthecommand.Asweareinextricablylinkedto commercialindustry, weremainfocusedonstrengtheningpartnerships withourtransportationproviderstomitigatecybervulnerabilities.”
Shealsonotedthecommand’seffortinreformingtheDefense PersonalPropertyProgram(DP3),sayingTRANSCOM,onbehalfofthe DOD, continuestoleadtheDP3overhaulbyre-awardingtheGlobal HouseholdGoodsContract(GHC)lastyearanddevelopingMilMove,a newITsystem,toreplacethelegacysystem.
“Bytransitioningtoasinglemovemanager, GHCfundamentally restructuresDOD’srelationshipwiththehouseholdgoodsmovingindustrytodelivernotonlythehighqualityourservicemembers, DOD employees, andtheirfamiliesdeserve, butalsotheaccountabilityCongressdemanded,” said VanOvost.
