“DuringMosaicTiger wewilldeploytoaforward operatingbaseandfromtherewewillforwarddeploytocontingencylocations,whicharebasically stripped-downrunways,” saidMaj.ZacharyMcClelland,23rd WingA5/7directorofplans.“We will projectcombatpowerusingourcontingencylocation teamstogetouraircraftbackinthefightwhichwill makeitmuchmoredifficultforastrategiccompetitortoattackourassets.”
TheACEandLead-Wingconceptscombatpotentialcontentionfromstrategiccompetitorsinthefuture. Bymobilizingassetsthroughoutmultiplecontingencylocations, targetingbecomesmoredifficult foropposingforces.

The23rd Wingworkedtosolvethatproblemand experiencedthebenefitsofACE.
“Wewereabletomorequicklylaunch,recover andmaintainaircraftfromdispersedlocations,” McClellandsaid.“Thiswillallowustohold(strategic competitors)atriskfrom(austere)locationsthat aredefendableandeasytorelocate.”
ThepotentialbenefitsACEprovidesforprojecting combatpowercomewith challengesforCommand
andControl(C2),whichishowoperationaldecisions fromthecommanderreachdispersedforces.
However, thededicatedmembersofMoodyAFB workedtocombatthatissue.
“(TheDeployedIntelligenceCombatElementkit) givesustheabilitytopickupandmovetoabare baseinacondensedamountoftimeandre-establish ourcommunications,” saidMasterSgt.ShaneLaw, 23rdWGA2superintendent.“Ifsomethingpopped offontheothersideoftheglobe, wecangothere, thensetupaCombatIntelligenceCellinabout30 minutes.”
TheDICEkitallowsintelanalyststoeasilyestablishsecurecommunicationsdownrangewitha smallerfootprint.
Throughouttheexercise, theA-staffmanaged communicationssystemslikeDICEkits, whichallowedAirmenatcontingencylocationstheabilityto accuratelyexecutethecommander’sintent.
“Wemadealotofstrides,” saidCol.RyanHayde, 23rdWGvicecommanderandMosaicTiger’sAir Expeditionary Wingcommander.“Ithinkwedefinitelyshowedthatthestaffconceptcanworkwith theLead Wing. Idefinitelysawalotofimprovement throughouttheweekasfarashowthestaff wasexecutingasweranthroughalotof challenges.”
WithACEbeingsucharobustconcept,obstacles comewithopportunitiesformultiplesolutions.
