BothChinaandRussia wantto changetheexistingrules-basedstructurein ways thatfavorthem Butnationsbelieveintheorderandthevaluesthatsupportthestructure, Austinsaidduringaninterviewonhis waybackfromtheAssociation ofSoutheastAsian Nations’defenseministersmeetinginCambodia.
One of themajorlessonsfromtheRussianinvasionofUkraine “ishow much countriesaroundtheworldvalueandrespecttherules-basedinternationalorder,” Austinsaid.

ARLINGTON, Va. (AFNS)—On Oct. 1,theDepartmentoftheAir ForcelaunchedtheMaternityUniformPilotProgram, or“Rentthe Camo,” thatwilltemporarilyissuefree maternityuniformitemsto pregnantAirmenandGuardians assignedtothe10 participatingbases.
Updatestotheprogram, whichtheAir Forceannouncedearlierthis year, include:
•The U.S. Armywillmaintainastock ofoperationalcamouflage patternmaternityuniformsfortheprogram,asthe U.S. Air Force, U.S. Space Forceand U.S. ArmywearthesameOCPuniform. The10 basesselectedforthepilotprogram arenearArmyinstallations with
aCentralIssue FacilityandcancapitalizeontheArmy’sOrganizationalClothing and Individual Equipment Direct Orderingsystem.

ThesecretaryalsosaidtheleadershipofyoungofficersandnoncommissionedofficersintheUkrainianmilitaryhasbeenveryimportantto Ukraine’ssuccess to date.
“WesawUkrainianleadersexercisinginitiativeonthebattlefield,” hesaid.“Theimportanceofprofessionalismandtrainingat[thecompany]level,Ithink,cannotbeoveremphasized.”
Guardian 2023,abi-annual exerciseset to takeplacein the Pacific nextyear. Thiseventsetupthenextrallyas amilestone, whichwill includetotalforcemobility Airmen as astandardgoingforward. Speakingaboutthe challengeahead ofAMC, Brown referencedthepower oflegacy, citingtheexperiences of“mobilitylegend” Lt. Gen. William Tunner, who conducted majorairlift operations over the“Hump” during
World WarII.
“Hetalkedabout howAirmenunderstandandknowhow tocompete,” BrownsaidaboutTunner. “He wasdoing thisinthe Indo-Pacific. That’swhere ourfocusis, and that’s where Mobility Guardianisgoingto benextyear We haveto challengeourselves, andwe haveto challengethestatusquo. Whatworkedyesterday may not worktomorrow.”
