ARLINGTON, Va. (AFNS)—On Oct. 1,theDepartmentoftheAir ForcelaunchedtheMaternityUniformPilotProgram, or“Rentthe Camo,” thatwilltemporarilyissuefree maternityuniformitemsto pregnantAirmenandGuardians assignedtothe10 participatingbases.

Updatestotheprogram, whichtheAir Forceannouncedearlierthis year, include:

•The U.S. Armywillmaintainastock ofoperationalcamouflage patternmaternityuniformsfortheprogram,asthe U.S. Air Force, U.S. Space Forceand U.S. ArmywearthesameOCPuniform. The10 basesselectedforthepilotprogram arenearArmyinstallations with

aCentralIssue FacilityandcancapitalizeontheArmy’sOrganizationalClothing and Individual Equipment Direct Orderingsystem.

Brown presented histopprioritiesforthe Air Force, among whichis the requirementfor forces tobelight, leanandagileincombatemployment.Lt. Gen. James Jacobson, PacificAir Forces deputycommanderandrallyattendee, putintoperspective why thatmattersinthe Indo-Pacificarea ofresponsibility.

“Agilecombatemploymentisthe way the Air Forceis goingtogenerateandsustain powerinthe Pacific,” he said. “Wewerehappytohave General Minihan andhis teamwithusat[ourweapons and tactics conference] last weekworkingonsomekeycomponentsand the challengesofaggregating airpower in a contestedenvironment.”

Therallyincluded multipleguestspeakersandpresented adeliberateagendafocusedonleveraging diversity, promotingacultureofdignity, andencouraginga Warrior Heart mentality–allwiththegoalofarmingAirmenwiththeemotionalresiliencetobereadyforthe realitiesofa violent fight.

“Partofwhattheseralliesareaboutisgettingafterresiliencymodel,orwhatwecall Warrior Heart,” Minihan said. “That’smind, bodyandcraft–everythingittakes tostrapinandgetafterit. Andthentheotheraspectis focusing onlethality–whatmobilitybringsis the maneuvertoconcentratecapabilitiesandturnthatintolethality.”

Andithasworked. Ithasbeen77yearssincegreat powersfoughteachother. Therehasn’tbeenarecurrence oftheviolencethatkilledtensofmillionsofpeopleduring World WarII.

Like-mindedcountrieshavebeenunifiedindefense oftheorder. Austin’s tripto meetwith officialsatthe ASEANmeetingispart ofthe overall U.S. strategyto buildalliances. “Thesearecountriesthatwesharevalueswith,” hesaid.“Thesearecountriesthatwethatwe shareavision with,andthatvisionisafreeandopen Indo-Pacific…wheretheycanprotecttheir…territories andtheycan choosewhichpaththey want to.”

TheUnitedStatesisn’taskingthenationsintheregionto choosebetweentheUnitedStatesandChina,the secretarysaid.

“Ourgoalisnottoforceacountryto chooseaside,” hesaid.“Itistomakesurethattheyhave…sovereign rights.”

AustinsaidtheUnitedStatesworkswithalliesand partnersin the defenseworld.HepointedtothedefeatISIScoalitionthatgrewtomorethan100nations. HealsomentionedtheUkraineDefenseContactGroup, where morethan50nationshavebondedtogethertodeliver Ukrainethematerialsitneeds.

“Youseeuscontinuingtodevelopandstrengthenour relationshipswithouralliesandpartnershereinthe Indo-Pacific,” hesaid.“Thisisavast, vastarea,andit supportsalotofcommerce. We wanttomakesurethat theskiesandseasremainopenandaccessibletoeverybodyintheregionand aroundthe globe.”

In Cambodia,Austinmet withhisChinesecounterpartGen. Wei Fenghe andemphasized theimportance ofkeepingthelinesofcommunicationopenbetweenthe twocountries.

“Ialsotalkedabouttheimportanceofmakingsure thatweemphasizesafetyandmakesurethatdon’tdo dangerousthingsintermsof closeapproachestoouraircraft,” Austinsaid. “AndItoldhimthatwe’regoingtofly, sailandoperateanywherethatinternationallawallows ustodoit.That’samessagethathe’sheardbefore.”

Thetourhighlightedthe6thAirRefueling Wing’sroleinAMC’smission andhowitmight changeontheroadtoExerciseMobilityGuardian,setto takeplace in 2023inthe Pacific.

“The6thARWhasanincrediblyimportantparttoplayintoday’s warfighting,” saidMinihan. “Astheadvancementofthepacing challengeaccelerates ch ange, the6thARWconductedacapstoneexercisebackinAugustwhich provedthat72-hoursofcontinuousairrefuelingoperationscanbeaccomplishedinasimulated contestedtheatre. We canusethisknowledgetoensurecombatsuccessin any futureconflicts.”

Throughout the two-day tou r, the AMC command team visited the 6th

Security ForcesSquadronMarine Patrolunit,6thMaintenanceGroup ARWBoltCell,andheldanallcallwiththe50thand91stAirRefueling Squadrons.

“ItmeansalottousthattheAMCcommandteamisabletocomeand speakwithourunit,” saidMasterSgt. JuanRomero, theflightsuperintendentwi thth e 6thAircraftMaintenanceSquadron. “A MC’sleadershiphas doneagreatjobinincorporatingtheideaofACE,alongwitha clearvisionfor thefutureofAMC.”

The6thAirRefueling Winglooksforwardtotheupcomingtransitionfrom theKC-135StratotankertotheKC-46A Pe gasusaircraft,whichwillrequirenewinfrastructure, trainingmechanismsandorganizational str aroundthebase.

“MybiggesttakeawayishowconfidentIaminthefutureofourAir afterspeakingandmeetingwithourAirmen,” Minihansaid.“Theirdedication,creativityandinnovationaretrulyimpressive Itwillplayahugerolein theupcoming challengesthattheDepartmentofDefensemayface.”

Austin wasasked whatotherlessonshegotfromtheRussianinvasionofUkraine, andhepointedtologistics. “TheRussianshavestruggledwithlogisticsfromtheverybeginning,” hesaid.“Wesawthatin

theBattleof Kyiv, astheywereunabletosustain...theirmomentum becausetheyjustcouldn’tmasterthelogistics. We sawthatcontinueto playoutthroughoutthis, thisentirefight.”

ThesecretaryalsosaidtheleadershipofyoungofficersandnoncommissionedofficersintheUkrainianmilitaryhasbeenveryimportantto Ukraine’ssuccess to date.

“WesawUkrainianleadersexercisinginitiativeonthebattlefield,” hesaid.“Theimportanceofprofessionalismandtrainingat[thecompany]level,Ithink,cannotbeoveremphasized.”

Guardian 2023,abi-annual exerciseset to takeplacein the Pacific nextyear. Thiseventsetupthenextrallyas amilestone, whichwill includetotalforcemobility Airmen as astandardgoingforward. Speakingaboutthe challengeahead ofAMC, Brown referencedthepower oflegacy, citingtheexperiences of“mobilitylegend” Lt. Gen. William Tunner, who conducted majorairlift operations over the“Hump” during

World WarII.

“Hetalkedabout howAirmenunderstandandknowhow tocompete,” BrownsaidaboutTunner. “He wasdoing thisinthe Indo-Pacific. That’swhere ourfocusis, and that’s where Mobility Guardianisgoingto benextyear We haveto challengeourselves, andwe haveto challengethestatusquo. Whatworkedyesterday may not worktomorrow.”
