Operationalenergy, or aviationfuel,comprisesthemajorityofDAF energyusage, providingatremendousopportunitytooptimizeenergy consumptionandmodelhowthemilitarycanimproveits warfightingcapabilities, whilemeetingaggressive climate goals. The DAFis enhancing aviationfuelefficiencythroughimprovedaircraftdragreductionandenginesustainmenttechnologies, agilesoftware, process improvements, andadvancedpropulsion.Throughjoint wargaming
efforts, theDAF isidentifyingand mitigatingoperationalrisktologisticsand energy supply chainsto ensurea readyandlethalforce.
Installationsacrossthecountryareexploringinnovativeenergy initiativesincludingmicrogrids, electricvehicleinfrastructure, solar arrays, andamicro-reactorpilottoenhanceinstallationresilienceand reducegreenhousegas emissions. Additionally, the DAF isundergoing extensiveplanningeffortslikeInstallationEnergyandClimateResilience Planstoadvancemissioncriticalenergyand watersystems and isconductingEnergyResilienceReadinessExercisestohelpinstallationsassessmissionreadiness duringacontrolledloss ofpower.
TheDAFisdevelopingacomprehensiveClimateActionPlan alignedwithnationalsecurityimperativesthatlaysout climateprioritiesandactionablegoalstoaddressthecomplexthreatof climate change, including objectivesrelatedtoenergy efficiency, which should bereleased soon.

Sincetheinceptionofthe privatizedhousingprograminthemid1990s, the projectownersadministeredthetenantsurvey. Startingin FY21,the DAFstandardizedthesurveyquestionsandfundedthe surveyto ensure consistency across privatizedhousingprojects. InFY22, theDAFimplementedthesamesurveyacrossitsgovernment-owned family housing locations.
DAFhousing programleaderswillreviewthesurveydataandcommentsbeforereleasing results tothe privatized projectowners.
