WASHINGTON(AFNS)—Astheservicecontinuestorefinewhatis neededtodeveloptheAirmenrequiredtofightandwinourfuture wars, Air ForceofficialsannouncedtheimplementationoftheEnlisted Force DevelopmentActionPlan,locatedhere.

Withagoaltocomplete28forcedevelopmentobjectivesinthenext twoyears, theplanandacorresponding“BlueprintforEnlisted Force Development,”releasinginthespring, isalignedwiththeAir Force chiefofstaff’s actionordersandisfocusedoninvestinginandempoweringAirmenforthefuturefight.

“Thefightfortomorrowhasalreadybegunanditwillundoubtedly befoughtbymanyAirmenwhoareservingtoday,” saidAir ForceChief ofStaffGen.CQBrown,Jr.“Aswecontinuetofocusonourreadiness againststrategiccompetitors, specificallyChinaandRussia,ourAirmenwillneedtobepreparedtodefeatthespeedandcomplexityof threatswefacearoundtheglobeeachday. Thisplanisdesignedtodo justthat.”

Deliberatedevelopmentoftheenlistedforce, whichrepresentsover 75%oftheAir Force’smilitarypersonnel,meansacultureofteamwork thatintegrateseveryone’sdiverseabilities, talents, andideasisessentialtomaximizeanddelivermeaningfulresults.

“Anenvironmentfocusedondevelopingandmanagingthetalentsof ourAirmeniskeyfortheirabilitytothriveandreachtheirfullpotential,” saidChiefMasterSgt.oftheAir Force JoAnne S. Bass.“Deliberate developmentoftheenlistedforceisamissionimperativeandmustbea toppriorityforanyonewhoisexpectedtolead–fromfront-linesupervisorstocommanders.”

Soontoaccompanytheplanis“TheBlueprintforEnlisted ForceDevelopment.”Thisdocumentwillserveasalivingfoundationalresource thatlinksallenlisteddevelopmentfromentrytodeparture, including keyconceptstoconnectenlistedAirmentotheProfessionofArms.

“TheblueprintservesasafocalpointtocreateasharedunderstandingofourAir Forcejourney,” Basssaid.“ThiswillprovideeveryAirman aroadmapthathighlightspathways, resourcesandopportunitiestobe successful.”

Thepremiseoftheactionplaniscenteredonsixareasthatalign withAir ForceprioritiesandtheCSAFActionOrders, withquarterly reportcardstotheforceforaccountabilityandtransparencyonupdates andprogressoneacharea.

Competition-Focused Force

SupportingActionOrdersAirmenandCompetition,thisareaconsists ofobjectivestiedtodevelopingahighlytrained,educatedandadaptableAirmanreadytooperateinajointenvironmentandtodominate thecompetition.

Initiativesincludeupdatingthe“LittleBlueBook,”Air ForceCore Values, and“LittleBrownBook,” Enlisted ForceStructure, alongwith thecreationofa“PurpleBook”thatincludesthevalues, capabilities, and warfightingconceptsofthe Joint Forceteam.

A SiteActivation Task Forcearrived Jan.10to helpplanthearrivaloftheKC-46 Pegasusaircraft.

Theteamisheretoassessthebeddownrequirementsthatwerepreviouslylaidoutandtoverify thatnothing wasmissedinthelastsitesurvey.

Theteamisreviewingconstructionandmanpowerrequirementstoensureasuccessfulbeddown. TheyareensuringmanpowerrequirementsarecorrectandassessingwhatMacDillmayneedforthe transition.

ArepresentativefromtheSATAFteamsaysthey areexcitedtobehereatsuchagreatlocation.“The transitionwon’tbepainlessbutitwillworkwellfor theAir Force’spremieretankeraircraft.”

Nowadorningeachoftheiruniformsisaneight-armedseamonster knownasthe“Kraken”aswellasthesquadron’smotto,“SemperPrimo Die”Latinfor “Alwaysthefirstday.”Themottoindicatesthedesirefor Airmenwithintheorganizationtobegineachdaywiththesamemotivationastheybegantheirfirst.

Air ForceMaj.Don Wiant,927thOSSassistantdirectorofoperations andtheartistbehindtheemblemexplainedtheguidingprinciplebehind elementsofthenewdesign.

“AsmembersoftheOSS, wedon’talwaysgettheopportunitytointeractwitheveryonefromthesquadron,” said Wiant. “Althoughourspecialtiesarediverse, ourAirmen’simpactisfar-reachingandtheyalluniquely contributevitallytoflyingoperations.”

FollowingtheswitchfromtheAirmanBattleUniformtotheOccupationalCamouflage Patternuniform,manyunitsthroughouttheAir Force havebeguntheprocessofdevelopingandadaptingtheirunitemblemsto thenewcolorscheme.

ILS-Stracksover35millionassetsvaluedat$18billion;assetsthat areoptimallydistributedandstoredacross1.7million warehouselocations. ILS-Salsoprovidesinventorycontrolof230,000assetsindeployableairtransportablecontainerstosupportcontingenciesandspecial operations.

The6thMaintenanceGroupand6thMedicalGroupteameduptoprovide Airmenwitharestandrelaxation(R&R)roominsideofHangar2atMacDill Air ForceBase, Florida.

TheR&Rroom wasopeneduptomembersofthe6thMXGduringaribbon-cuttingceremony Jan.7,2021.Theroomcontainsatelevision,sound system,furniture, massage chair, moodlights, anaromaessentialoildiffuser andmore.

U.S. Air ForceStaffSgt.AnastaciaRodriguez,6thMaintenanceSquadron aerospacepropulsioncraftsman,hasbeenanadvocateforthenewR&R roomandisexcitedthatitisnowareality.

“WhatIammostexcitedaboutishavingaspacemyAirmencangoifand whenneeded,” Rodriguezsaid.“Getting away for20minutescanmakea hugedifferenceinone’sresiliency, especiallywhenfacingastressfulmoment orevent.Ihavebeeninthemaintenancefieldforover14yearsandIhave notseenthistypeofeffortputinforindividual’smentalhealth.Allofthe initiativesthathavebeenstartedherearegame changersforourmaintainersandI’msuperexcitedtowitnesstheculture changewehaveexperienced inthelastyear.”

The6thMXGand6thMDGcollaboratedonthisprojectbecauseofthe valuetheroomwillbringtoAirmenandultimatelythemissionofthe6th AirRefueling Wing.

“AfteracquiringtheDefenseOrganizationalClimateSurveyresultsin 2020and2021,themainissueswerealizedwefacedasAirmenweredaily workandlifestressors,” Rodriguezsaid.“Thenextstep waslookingatwhat wecandoasleaderstofacethatissueandtrytomakeadifference. Bycombiningforceswith6thMDGandourleadershereat6thMXG it wasano brainertotryandrelievethatstresshereatthesource.WeknewandunderstoodthatourmissioncapabilitieswouldgrowbymakingourAirmen’s resiliencyapriority.”

Rodriguezsaidthatthe6thMXGistheonlymaintenancegroupintheAir ForcethathasaspaceforAirmentoresetliketheR&Rroom.Shehopesthe ideacatchesonwithotherunits.

Separatingpersonalmattersfromaworkenvironmentcanbedifficultfor membersattimes, especiallywhenfacinghardships.TheR&Rroomcanbe utilizedbymaintainerswhoneedaspacetogetawayordecompress.

“Therelaxationroomwillprovidea wayformeto clearmyheadatwork,” said U.S. Air ForceSeniorAirman JoshuaBankston,6thMXSaerospace propulsionapprenticeandoneoftheAirmeninvolvedintheplanningand creationoftheR&Rroom.“WhenIamfrustratedatworkandthingsaren’t goingwell,Inowhaveaplacetobreatheand clearmymind.”

“Wereducedourannualinfrastructurehostingcosts$25millionannually, andinFY2022,we’lldrivedowninfrastructurecostsevenfurther byemployingreservedinstancesinour cloudenvironment,” saidHunter.
