DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

“A

well-designed space guides its users like a narrative, leading them from curiosity to clarity.”

Hello! I’m Mark.

Welcome to my creative world, where architecture, graphic design, wayfinding signage, and strategic solutions come together to shape impactful experiences.

As a designer and proposal specialist, I bring visual storytelling and strategic thinking into every project. My portfolio spans immersive environments, intuitive wayfinding, and compelling proposal responses—each crafted to meet both design and business goals.

Beyond design, I support business development through targeted marketing and RFP/RFQ strategies, helping teams stand out in competitive markets. My approach combines creativity with user-focused logic to ensure spaces and messages connect clearly and memorably.

Wayfinding signage plays a key role in my work—more than guiding movement, it’s about enriching the user journey with clarity and creative intent.

Driven by innovation, I welcome each challenge as an opportunity to deliver functional, visually powerful solutions. I invite you to explore my portfolio and look forward to collaborating in bringing your vision to life.

Best regards,

Mark C atacutan

marketing strategy.

My marketing strategy is rooted in the belief that graphic design is a powerful driver of communication and engagement. I approach every project with a strategic mindset, using design not just to attract attention, but to deliver clear, compelling messages that resonate with the target audience.

Whether it’s digital campaigns, print collateral, or social media content, I ensure each visual element aligns with brand identity and marketing goals. Guided by audience insight and creative precision, I craft cohesive visuals that elevate brand presence, enhance messaging, and inspire action.

Advertising content creation.

I specialize in crafting advertising content that not only captures attention but also drives engagement and action. From concept development to final execution, I create compelling visuals and persuasive messaging that align with brand objectives and resonate with the target audience.

Whether it’s for digital campaigns, print ads, or social media promotions, I focus on producing content that tells a story, conveys value, and sparks an emotional connection. By combining creativity with strategic insight, I ensure each piece of content contributes to building brand awareness, generating leads, and achieving business goals.

Building on this foundation, I continuously explore how architecture intersects with identity, culture, and community needs. Whether working on large-scale signage systems or detailed architectural proposals, I focus on clarity, accessibility, and visual impact.

My design process is iterative and inclusive, ensuring that each solution is both technically sound and emotionally resonant.

interior design.

Interior design, for me, is about crafting spaces that evoke emotion, enhance functionality, and reflect the identity of those who inhabit them. With a strong background in architectural planning and environmental design, I approach interiors as an extension of the built form—harmonizing layout, lighting, materials, and finishes to create cohesive and purposeful environments. Each project is an opportunity to balance aesthetics with usability, ensuring that every element serves both a practical and expressive role within the space.

wayfinding principles:

1. Capturing the Essence: Immersed in Fox Creek’s culture to translate its identity into a design language that resonates with both residents and visitors.

2. Visual Identity: Created a cohesive look blending historical charm with a modern aesthetic through color, typography, and iconography.

3. User-Centric Design: Prioritized intuitive, accessible navigation through thoughtful design and usability testing.

4. Landmarks Integration: Identified key points of interest and represented them with custom icons and graphics.

5. Thematic Signage: Designed district-specific signage using storytelling to enhance sense of place and highlight local attractions.

wander the resort.

As the designer of the “Wander the Resort” wayfinding package, I developed a cohesive system that integrates architecture, interior design, and local materials to reflect the “Escape from City Life” theme. More than just signage, it offers an immersive experience that enhances the resort’s identity and makes navigation an intuitive part of the guest journey.

My role went far beyond designing physical signs; it was about curating an experience. I focused on creating an intuitive and visually engaging journey that guides people through Fernie’s streets while encouraging them to pause, explore, and connect with their surroundings. Each sign was envisioned as a storytelling piece that contributes to a broader narrative, inviting users to discover the heart of Fernie one step at a time.

window of the past.

We developed this interactive design feature to highlight the rich culture and history of Fernie. This freestanding monument allows both tourists and locals to envision how the area looked in the past. The design enables the Tourism Committee to incorporate historical photographs from their archives, showcasing key events, buildings, and developments over the years.

Galaxyland.

Designing the *Trouble* game piece and *Hungry Hungry Hippos* for Hasbro at Galaxyland in West Edmonton Mall stands out as one of my most memorable custom projects. Working alongside Hasbro on these iconic games was an exciting chance to enhance the visitor experience at Galaxyland. The project involved reimagining these beloved classics with a playful and distinctive twist, thoughtfully adapted to fit the dynamic atmosphere of the amusement park.

isabela promenade.

The design bid project, submitted to the city government of Isabela City, Philippines in 2019, was envisioned to reflect the community’s vibrant Islamic heritage while honoring Philippine Independence Day. Through carefully integrated symbolic elements, the design celebrated both cultural identity and national pride.
