ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN STUDIO : HERITAGE STUDIO
The studio aimed to study the existing built environment in relation to the historic sense of the place while keeping in mind the social-physical relationships and cultural significance of the region. The aim was To promote tourism by influencing the Architectural Character, Built form & Heritage in an urban setting.
The design explores ways of increasing public engagement. Cultural centers have become desolate. People hardly spend 30 -40 minutes at an average in them with the engagement progressively decreasing. The design aims at creating an intuitive experience for the user so as to increase the attention span of the visitor and the amount of time spent.

The Context Gallery
The interior has a series of walls with semi circular openings. these are made to accomodate 3D exhibits, while creating an interesting composition fo space inside.

These walls when viewed seperately look like simple curved walls. but when two of them are viewed together they form an arch. these walls are kept in series, thereby creating an illusion of archade in the interiors.
The Corridors The Exhibition Halls
the roof is a amalgamation of traditional slopping roofs and butterfly roof. the butterfly roof, is placed over the exhibition spaces. it enables ample sunlight into the spaces while keeping glare away as the light entering would be diffused and the space will give an enhanced experience.

The slopping roofs near the entrances signify welcoming and bowing down to the almighty.
The art galleries follow the concept of agraharam houses. in the houses, there is a single entry through thinnai, followed by the courtyard area which has rooms on both sides. it ends with the cow shed area with a single exit. So a typical circulation pattern would enable multiple routes to spaces inside and at the same time they all remain connected visually.
