Dear Customers, Business Friends and Partners, In 2011, the Doppelmayr/Garaventa Group completed a total of 104 ropeway projects for 88 customers worldwide. The challenge of ensuring shared successes with our customers once again motivated us in our drive to achieve top performance in all areas. We are sincerely grateful for the mutual trust and successful working relationships which spurred us on to those achievements.

Our recovery concept for continuous movement monocable ropeways, which was incorporated on the Grasjoch lift in Austria in 2011, not only set new standards but also marked yet another milestone in ropeway development. Custom solutions requiring new ideas and technologies were characteristic of projects realized on every continent. These called for extensive development work, which ultimately benefits all our customers across the globe.

New, pioneering contracts are ongoing – we currently have three 3S ropeways in production for Ischgl and Sochi – needless to say, designed to include our revolutionary recovery concept. The Cable Liner Shuttle in the San Francisco Bay Area ranks as the biggest contract in our company history and is scheduled for completion in 2014. Other future-oriented projects are under construction in London and on the Mont Blanc Massif. The CabriO double-decker cabin for reversible aerial tramways is a 2012 world first from Doppelmayr/Garaventa which will be installed on the Stanserhorn in Switzerland.

Doppelmayr carried out the scheduled general overhaul of this prestigious aerial tramway which was Italy’s biggest and most modern when originally built in 1991.

As part of the upgrade, two new, stronger motors including gearboxes were installed for the main drive and the entire electronic control system was replaced.

In addition, the two cabins were also taken out of service. The stunning design of their replacements cannot fail to impress: cabins, carriages and hangers in an elegant black finish, and luxury fittings for the interiors. Video screens, LED lighting and panorama windows make the trip an unforgettable experience.

The newly installed combined lift in Lech am Arlberg is the first of its kind in Vorarlberg. Guests can choose between 8-seater comfort chairs and 10-passenger gondolas. Up to 3,900 passengers an hour can be transported in comfort and safety over the 771 m route.

On this lift, one spacious gondola with heated seats follows every two 8-seater chairs. The comfort chairs are fitted with child-friendly, lockable restraining bars, heated seats and bubbles. As the slopes served by the Weibermahd lift are particularly popular among families and ski school groups with small children, this type of lift system was the optimal choice and has met with an extremely positive response from winter sports enthusiasts.

The start of the 2011/2012 ski season saw the opening of the new 10-passenger Hochbifang gondola lift on the Altenmarkt side of the Radstadt/ Altenmarkt ski circuit. With a length of 2,349 m, this lift is the longest in the amadĂŠ ski region and replaces a 40-year-old double chairlift. It has a capacity of 2,000 passengers an hour and enables guests to reach the KemahdhĂśhe at an altitude of 1571 m in just under 8 minutes. For the family-oriented ski resort offering scenic, wide-ranging slopes, the new gondola lift represents a major milestone. Guests also like to use the new lift to access the starting point of the KĂśnigslehen toboggan run which is right next to the top station.

Doppelmayr installed two new lifts in the ski resort of Valmorel in the Savoy Alps: the Pierrafort 8-passenger gondola lift and the Morel 6-seater chairlift. The 3,600-hectare ski region ranges in altitude from 1,400 m to 2,800 m, has over 152 kilometers of ski trails and 46 lifts. The Pierrafort lift replaces a small, outmoded gondola dating back to 1981. While the top station was retained, a new bottom station was built to provide rapid access to the slopes from the new Club Med. The gondola lift has an hourly capacity of up to 3,000 passengers and its comfortable cabins can optionally be equipped to carry eight seated or ten standing passengers.

The Doppelmayr Group has set another milestone in modern ropeway engineering with the erection of the Grasjoch 8-passenger gondola lift for Silvretta Montafon Bergbahnen AG. The Grasjoch lift is the world’s first detachable gondola incorporating an innovative recovery concept which ensures that the carriers can always be brought back to the stations in a rescue scenario. This does away with the need for a conventional evacuation, such as lowering the passengers by rope. The key to this concept is the principle of redundant design: All function-related parts and equipment are duplicated and independently operable. Passengers can therefore sit back and relax, with top ride comfort and the utmost safety guaranteed.

A ride on the first 8-passenger gondola lift at KolmĂĽrden Wildlife Park in Sweden, the biggest in Northern Europe and just a 1.5-hour drive south of Stockholm, offers a unique and exciting adventure. Visitors using the safari gondola lift ride across the wildlife park in partially open 8-passenger carriers at heights ranging from 2.5 to 20 meters. They are rewarded with an up-close view of lions, bears, wolves and other animals. The 78 specially designed cabins carry 1,200 passengers an hour through the park. Thanks to new technology developed by Doppelmayr, the cabins are able to circulate around 5 curves without the need for grip opening and closing stations on the line.

An 8-passenger gondola lift was built in the Dutch city of Venlo for the 2012 World Horticultural Expo known as the "Floriade". The lift – the first modern gondola in the Netherlands – already went into service in April 2011 and its 45 cabins carry up to 2,200 visitors an hour on a 5-minute ride over the Floriade showground. The anticipated 2 million visitors to the Horticultural Expo will be able to take the gondola to enjoy fascinating views of the sea of flowers and the archaeological sites dating back to the time of the Celts. The operators of the gondola lift are Silvretta Montafon Bergbahnen AG, based in Vorarlberg, Austria. Once the Floriade is over, Doppelmayr is to dismantle the lift and install it in the Silvretta Montafon skiing and hiking area, where it will be used for all-year operation.

This lift was relocated a short distance away during the course of constructing the new chairlift. Adjacent to it is the new 8-passenger gondola lift Livigno-Tagliede-Costaccia which was also built by Doppelmayr.
