I am pleased to share with you our summer term. Our classes this term include theatre, dance, music, film, TV & digital. The Lyric provides excellent opportunities for young people. We are incredibly proud of alumni members Krystal and Karl who were leads in our Christmas panto Cinderella last year alongside our young ensemble whose performances contributed to the most successful panto in the Lyric’s history. We’re also proud of all the young artists involved in creating our first two day festival Evolution in January.

This summer we will be taking part in NT Connections 2016 and hosting 12 young companies from across the South West. We will also be presenting our first show for the festival, Eclipse by Simon Armitage. See page 20 for full details. We are also looking forward to our Dance and Music week as part of Hammersmith and Fulham Arts Fest 06–12 June. THEATRE

Theatre at the Lyric is delivered by the Lyric Hammersmith, one of the UK’s most acclaimed producing theatres, Action on Disability, a user led organisation working to create an inclusive society free of disabling barriers where all individuals are equal and AMICI Dance Theatre Company, an integrated disabled & non-disabled company. AMICI is the Lyric’s community artist-in-residence. Classes this term include: Acting Up Love to act? Well this is your chance to meet like-minded people and learn more. Push your imagination to its limits with our Acting Up classes. Work over our ten week course to develop your performance and theatre abilities. Young Amici A new inclusive dance theatre group for disabled & non-disabled young people. The classes are fully inclusive and suitable for all levels of experience. Experience dance theatre through various improvisation techniques and the Amici magic. Friday Club Friday Club supports disabled people to access Action on Disability’s youth service offer and provides an opportunity and environment to develop independence and peer relations. Explore a variety of different activities such as circus skills, drama and multisports.

Creative Dance Making Workshop This innovative and collaborative programme will offer participants the opportunity to work with one of New English Ballet Theatre’s choreographers, learning the tools used to create choreography, and participating in activities including movement exploration and improvisation exercises, culminating in an informal performance. This course is an excellent way to explore new and exciting ways to create movement and link sequences of dance together to create modern and stimulating choreography.

MUSIC

Music at the Lyric is delivered by Musiko Musika a world music organisation and Tri-Borough Music Hub, one of the lead music organisations delivering music in West London. Classes this term include: Do Re Mi Fa Family Music Session A fun music session for families with children aged 2-5 years, involving singing, instruments, puppets, games and rhythm. World Music Academy: World Strings and Percussion Work with guest musicians from England, Serbia and Latin America. For players from beginner upwards who want to learn and explore. ECCO (Ethnic Contemporary Classical Orchestra) A youth music ensemble that reflects the diversity and musical interests of the young players and their families. We rehearse and perform a repertoire of music that encompasses Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin America. ECCO (Ethnic Contemporary Classical Orchestra) Electric Band The ECCO Electric Band is an advanced creative ensemble for members of the ECCO project. The young players work as a collective to develop new music and arrangements inspired by world music.

MUSIC

Rock and Pop Academy with The Rhythm Studio Designed to help young people learn to play contemporary music as individuals and in bands; all with professional musicians. Learn classic tracks and prepare for live gigs using guitar, keyboards, drums, bass guitar and vocals. Folk Ensemble with Tir Eolas Join this group as we learn traditional folk music for a contemporary ensemble with the eclectic, alternative folk group, Tir Eolas. Tri-Borough Youth Orchestra Come and join this ambitious Youth Orchestra for all pupils in West London. This orchestra has high aspirations and a bright future under the conductor, Justin Fung. This orchestra is auditioned. The Young Singers with The Bach Choir Consisting of around 100 talented children, join The Young Singers and take part in an exciting and varied programme of performances in high-profile venues around London. Want to perform in our Pantomime?

Connections is the National Theatre’s annual festival of new plays for youth theatres and schools.

Every year we recruit a young ensemble to be part of our Pantomime. This year the show will be Aladdin. If you are aged 18-25, love to sing, dance and perform, want to train and have your first professional experience at the Lyric then sign up to the Lyric Young Company and we will be announcing auditions in July.

Connections gives young people experience of professional theatre-making. Their experience mirrors that of a company producing a new play in any theatre in the country. Lyric Young Company presents

Why do I need to be an LYC member before I sign up?

Do I have to join for the full term?

We want you to feel like part of the Lyric family, but it allows us to ensure no class is more than £10. Plus we’ve got lots of benefits for our LYC members and we keep adding new ones all the time. Find out how to become a member on page 22.

Yes, for the majority of classes we ask that you book the full term. However individual session booking will open after the first session has passed should you want to join mid-term.

What does being an LYC member mean? It means you are part of West London’s largest company of creative and exciting individuals. You can book onto courses, book our spaces and hang out at the Lyric. You will also receive an exclusive LYC newsletter with regular updates, performance opportunities as well as information, offers and deals from our partners.

I’m not from Hammersmith, can I still take part? Of course. LYC is open to all under 25s no matter where you live.

How do I book a class? Call our Box Office on 020 8741 6850 or come in and visit us. See page 22 for more details.

Why can’t I book online? Our current website isn’t able to take online bookings just yet, but we are working hard to create a new system that will make booking activities easy for you.

You will receive a verbal confirmation at the time of your booking. Then all you need to do is turn up approx. 15 minutes before your class is due to begin. See page 31 for more details.

Do I have to attend every class in the term? Yes, however exceptions can be made. You will need to let LYC know by contacting becky.martin@lyric. co.uk or calling 020 8741 6850 ext. 406.

Do classes run through half term? No, we have a break during half term. Check with your course leader for details. Check online for half term and holiday activity.

Frequently asked questions

Does my parent/carer need to be there for the duration of my class? No. However we do ask that parents/ carers of children 11 and under stay in the building. Parents/carers are welcome to hang out in the Reuben Foundation Wing foyer or at our café and restaurant. See page 30 for more details.

Where can I be collected from after class? Parents/carers should collect you promptly from the Reuben Foundation Wing unless LYC has been informed that you have permission to go home yourself.

Schools work The Lyric is pleased to offer a variety of packages for schools and colleges across London. Our work with schools not only takes place around the artistic programme of the theatre but also makes full use of the state of the art facilities in our new Reuben Foundation Wing which houses a multitude of spaces such as TV and recording studios and rehearsal rooms engaging young people and schools.

Targeted work

• Do you work locally? We have a new opportunity for Corporate Partnerships where companies can get involved with the Lyric and fulfil your company’s needs – whether this is to support your Corporate Social Responsibility mission, to hire our spaces or provide benefits for staff and clients.

We are dedicated to working with West London’s most marginalised and disadvantaged young people. Across the year we offer a breadth of high quality arts based projects that raise the aspirations and self-motivation of young people so they can reach their full potential. Our targeted projects include: • START a six-week accredited training scheme which supports NEET (Not in Employment, Education or Training) young people. For ages 16+.

SCHOOLS AND TARGETED WORK

• If you are associated with a charitable foundation the Lyric has numerous projects and activities that need support including our targeted programmes with marginalised and disadvantaged young people, our work with schools in West London, and other activities in the community. • REWIND a programme for learners ages 11 – 16 at risk of dropping out of mainstream education or in specialist provision.
