225 PAVEL BURE (Paul Buhre) - A Russian gold and enamel cased small pocket watch the hunting case with the Imperial double headed eagle in black and blue enamel, white dial with Roman numerals and subsidiary seconds, dust cover of gold signed Pavel Bure, no. 80513. circa 1903. together with a Russian gold short watch suspension, in original Pavel Buhre red leather case with the Russian Warrant on the lid. Dial diameter: 28mm The Paul Buhre firm was founded in 1815 in St. Petersburg. In 1874, the firm acquired a large watch factory in Le Locle, Switzerland. All watches sold by Buhre in Russia, through the firm's two galleries in St. Petersburg and Moscow, were made at Le Locle. The firm was well regarded for quality and design and subsequently they received two Grand Gold medals - one in 1896 in Geneva, another in 1900 at the Paris World Fair. Watches with the Russian Imperial eagle were made by order of the Russian Court as presentation pieces. These watches were never sold to the general public and they didn't feature in the firm's price lists of the period.
