Wetlands Studies & Solutions and David Hill Studios have been assisting us with plans for relocated portions of Creekside Trail, which will ensure that bank stabilization measures will continue. Parks Services is working directly with the Departments of Public Works in surveying and updating easements, and with Water Resources as well. Repairs and realignments will continue along Ivy Creek and Beaver Trail to facilitate connections between Creekside and Blackwater Trails where feasible.

Athens Building and Construction is assembling the cabling for the new replacement Downstream Swinging Bridge at their large-scale facilities in Richmond. When those components are completed they will be transported to Lynchburg for installation, and we will see construction begin on the replacement Bridge, which is being located a few hundred feet further downstream and away from the curve where the old bridge was located. To ensure the safety of workers and citizens, if trespassing violations occur in active construction zones, LPD will be Designnotified.and survey work continue on three remaining pedestrian bridges, including the replacement for the footbridge over the old sewer main adjacent to Langhorne Road. Engineers are finalizing design plans for the metal catwalk planned to go underneath the road, with a connection back to the main trail that utilizes existing sidewalks. Innovative construction techniques will involve removing three low-water crossings in Blackwater Creek to make it safer and more resilient, and will also allow canoe and kayaking further up Blackwater Creek. We will be adding put-ins at Blackwater Creek Athletic Area and planning wildflower installations and outdoor classroom areas along the creek.

We are proud to announce the opening of a new Bicycle Pump Track facility at Peaks View Park, adjacent to the tennis courts. This project was recently completed with City Council support and CIP funding, in partnership with the Greater Lynchburg Off-Road Cycling club (GLOC). The pump track will be an exciting addition to the play and learning facilities for children and youth at Peaks View. A ribbon cutting was held Thursday, July 14, 2022. The event featured a preview of the new facility, speeches by City Officials, and a cycling demonstration.
