A er a disappointing result in our rst match of the new season, losing 3-0 to Colyton, the First Team put up a much be er showing against Clyst Valley, one of the favourites to win this season’s Premier division.Trailing 2-1 at half time, we fought hard in the second half and managed to hang on to a 2-2 draw, both our goals coming from Fred Parsons, who won last season’s Golden Boot.

Club O cers

A er the game, man-of-the match Fred was presented with a framed Yeovil shirt (see photo) by former Glovers’ Press O cer Richard Horobin to mark his 17 goals for the club last season. Other fundraising front, our rst music night last Saturday was not as well supported as expected but was enjoyed by those who a ended and we intend to persevere with similar events on the last Sat urday in every month until the end of the season. Last week’s old photo in our Archive section caused a good deal of interest. e prize for naming all the players went to Keith Broom who immediate ly recognised his two brothers, the late Robert Broome and his younger sibling, Stuart Broom. A WARM welcome to the players and supporters of Kentisbeare visiting the Davey Fort today in the rst round of the East Devon Senior Cup. Neither club has won the prestigious trophy – rst competed for in 1904 – and last season Kentisbeare nished in fourth place in the Devon and Exeter Premier Division, just one position above the Seasiders, so it’s bound to be a competitive match.

AT our recent annual meeting Howard Larcombe stood down as chairman of the management commi ee a er holding the post for 14 years, a record. A former player and club man ager, Howard steered the club through some of the most di cult years in the club’s 137 years of history and which included a pandemic that saw the Davey Fort closed for many months and from which we are still recovering nancially.Howard, whose sons Rob and Jim also play for the Seasiders, was instrumental in the launch of the club’s development programme –Project Fortify – which has result ed in the Davey Fort o ering some of the best facilities at our level of football.Atthe club’s annual presenta tion night Howard was made a Life Member in recognition of his services to the club. Howard continues to sit on the club commi ee, as does his wife Heather and son Rob. e chairmanship has been taken over by another long-serving member, Gerard Hitchcock, who served as Howard’s deputy for many years. Gerard has been a life-long member of the club as a player, manager and commi ee member and continues the Hitchcock family’s connection with the club that goes back 60 years. In the last issue of e Seasider we paid tribute to Gerard’s father, Ken “Cooey”

Hitchcock who died earlier this year and who is greatly missed at the club where he was caretaker for many years.

Gerard’s vice-chairman is Francesca Evans who has been connected with the cub since she was eight years-old. Chez is the daughter of Club President Philip Evans MBE and has been involved in fundraising for the Seasiders for a number of years. She is the main organ iser of our successful Sausage and Cider Fes tival and also holds the position of Minutes Secretary on the commi ee. Both Gerard and Francesca are tireless workers for the club. Please support them.

I moved to England in October 2009 and fell in love with Lyme Regis Football Club, having played against them when I was in Creully, and since then I have played as a Seasider until becoming a manager after taking training sessions for the last three to four years. As a manager, this year my focus is to enable the team to play the best football we can, developing as a continuous process we have had for the last two years since I took charge. I can see a big development in the mindset and way of playing of each player involved, not just with the 1st team but through all the club. This season my hopes and expectations will be a bit higher than last year with a top-three finish minimum as we proved last year that we can compete against anyone on a good day.

MEET THE Julien Simier

I became a Seasider the day I put my foot on English soil - and I will always be a Seasider!

FIRST TEAM I STARTED as a kid playing for Creully in Normandy under my Dad as a coach. I then moved to the Caen academy football club from under to 10s till under 16s. I stopped playing football for nearly three years after a severe injury. My Dad got me back into football, playing for Creully again, at the age of 19 where I fell in love with the beautiful game. I then played at a higher level for a team called Thaon for a year and moved to even higher standard playing for Verson for two years. The rest is history.

MANAGER MANAGER

This year is going to be about consistency and maintaining a high level performance in each game which I know the lads are capable of. They have all my trust and love, I believe in all of them to be able to achieve very high standard - that's why sometimes I am very harsh on them.
