Lyme celebrates annual Somers Day VISITORS from Lyme Regis’ twin town of St George’s in Bermuda were among those to take part in the annual Somers Day celebrations this week. Heatwave brings dolphins to the bay ■ AS temperatures soared this week, a pod of dolphins was spotted in the bay off Lyme Regis. This photo was captured by Steve Postles, skipper of the Neptune fishing trip boat, whose passengers were delighted as the dolphins played in the water around them. This week’s high temperatures saw huge crowds flock to Lyme Regis beach, as the Met Office issued its first ever extreme heat warning for a large area of England. See page 8

Council meeting walk out

MAYOR AND THREE OTHERS WALK OUT OF MEETING AMID EXPLOSIVE ARGUMENT

THE Mayor of Lyme Regis and three other town councillors last week walked out of one of the most explosive public meetings seen in recent years.

Mayor Brian Larcombe and Cllrs John Broom, Belinda Bawden and Stan Williams all walked out of last week’s Strategy & Finance Committee meeting – the first eight minutes of which descended into a heated row between several

The four have cited different reasons for walking out, but it followed what has been described as “intolerable” behaviour and the election of Cllr Michaela Ellis as new chairman of the committee, taking over from the mayor. The walk-out follows weeks of increasing ten-

sion in the council chamber, with the mayor having recently made a statement saying he will no longer tolerate disrespectful behaviour between members at meetings.
