MAIN PURPOSE OF THE INTERNSHIP:

To provide an opportunity for a suitably qualified person to develop a strong participatory arts practice, through a combination of delivery, reflective practice, mentoring, observation and professional training.

This will be achieved through:

• Assisting with the delivery of Lyceum Youth Theatre sessions, holiday workshops and workshops for schools and community engagement projects;

• Working alongside established theatre practitioners to plan and deliver drama workshops;

• Supporting the administration of programmes of workshops, youth theatre, and liaison with parents/carers;

• Opportunities to be an assistant director/ director for LYT productions (dependent on availability);

• Practical and legislative professional training, e.g. child protection, risk assessments, First Aid

Tasks and Responsibilities:

1. To assist with the delivery of weekly workshops sessions for the Lyceum Youth Theatre (LYT).

2. To assist with the delivery of the Lyceum Youth Theatre’s holiday course programmes.

3. To support the management of the Lyceum Youth theatre inbox and register administration.

4. Act as a chaperone during theatre visits by LYT and when young members are part of main stage productions.

5. To work with the Creative Learning team on performance opportunities for LYT.

6. Support the delivery of the 25th Anniversary celebrations of LYT and Family Arts Day

7. To assist with the delivery of workshops for school pupils linked to the Royal Lyceum Theatre Company’s season of plays and the Expressive Arts Curriculum.

8. To operate at all times within the current Health and Safety at Work legislation and to carry out Risk Assessments for activities to ensure a safe working environment.

9. To contribute to the planning and achievement of the work of the Creative Learning programme.

This list of responsibilities is not exhaustive and may change as the strategic vision for the department and organisation evolves. Therefore the post holder may be required to perform duties outside of this as operationally required, but within the reasonable scope of this role, at the request of the Head of Creative Learning.

PERSON SPECIFICATION Essential

• Graduated from a relevant Higher Education qualification (HND or Degree)in the last 36 months or significant relevant experience

• Commitment to theatre, drama and working with young people

• Experience of devising and facilitating drama workshops for young people

• Ability to communicate with and work in association with young people in both formal and informal environments

• A passion for youth theatre and a desire to forge a career in participatory drama practice

• Ability to work individually and as part of a team

• Excellent time management skills

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Able to take responsibility for tasks and meet deadlines

• Good administration and organisational skills

• A professional approach

• Able to work evenings/weekends

Desirable

• Experience of Youth Theatre

• Experience of arts education work in the primary and secondary sector

• Experience of devising and directing theatre productions

• Experience of working with a range of art forms

• Experience of creating resource materials to support learning

• Practical knowledge of IT and Office based systems

• Knowledge of Child Protection procedures and best practice

• Understanding of how to assess risks

• First aid qualification

• PVG Membership

Terms and conditions:

This is a part-time, temporary position with the Lyceum Youth Theatre.

22 hours per week over 4 days for the period August 2023 – July 2024

Wednesday 2 – 9pm, Thursday 2-9pm, Friday 1-5pm, 10am – 5pm Saturday

Wage:£19,838 pro rata

Due to the nature of the role evening and weekend work will be required.

Candidates must be over 18 years. As this post involves working with Children and Young People the appointments are subject to successful applicants being current members or willing to apply for membership to the PVG scheme.
