students to learn how to stay safe around electricity. power outages to lightning storms to downed power lines. Students were also able to see what electricity can do to objects they encounter such as kites and gloves.

Oncor taught them how to have a healthy

respect for electricity and know how to stay out of danger.

An Unforgettable Season

This football season was the best I could ask for. I hated it ending so early for us, but all of the hard word we put in this past spring, and in the summer, helped us make history at Lake Worth High School.

My favorite part of the season was when we beat Springtown and got our first playoff win.

I won't ever forget this season. Our bond as a team is special, and no matter what happens, I will always go to war for my boys.

LWHS Go!Center and LWISD presents Adulting 101 for LWHS Seniors and their guardians.

This will be a great evening with great discussion topics like: nutrition on a budget financial literacy college campus safety self care and mental health.

Also, Mr Resendiz will be there to answer questions about financial aid and college applications. Guardians and class of 2022, we can't wait to see you!

EMPLOYEE HIGHLIGHT: COACH POWELL

by Coach John Powell, Lucyle Collins Middle School

Coach John J. Powell Jr. is a Texas History Teacher and boys Coach at Lucyle Collins Middle School, but on the weekends, he is known as Technical Sergeant Powell who is a member of the Security Forces Section of the 301st Fighter Wing at NAS JRB Fort Worth, Texas. He is currently serving in the U.S. Air Force and just went over 21 years in the military.

Coach Powell graduated from Lake Worth High in 1991. Shortly after graduation, he started his military career in the U.S. Navy. Coach Powell served in the Navy as an Intelligence Analyst for 6 years then another 6 years as an Intelligence Analyst with the Air Force Reserves. For the last 9 years he has served as a Security Forces member. The last five years in Security Forces has been busy for Coach Powell. During that time, he was deployed three times, which included 2 times to the Middle East. He was also selected to serve on a special duty working with the Secret Service guarding Air Force One when the President made a visit to Dallas. Coach Powell missed the 20192020 school year due to his last deployment to the Middle East but represented the Bullfrogs well.

During his deployment, he would receive 2 awards and be coined by the Commander of the base.

Recently, Sergeant Powell received the Air Force Commendation Medal for his achievements during his deployment.

Coach Powell continues to serve in the Air Force Reserves but says his days in the military are winding down to an end. Coach stays busy as he is also continuing his education online as a student at Texas A & M University at Texarkana. He is scheduled to receive a Master of Science in Instructional Technology this coming May. Coach Powell has been a Bullfrog for most of his life. In fact, the whole family takes pride in being a Bullfrog as his wife, Sonia, is the secretary at Miller Language Academy and his son, Johnny, is a first grader.He also has one cousin and two sister-in-law’s that are employed by LWISD. When Lake Worth says we are a Family here, we mean it in more ways than one. Go Bullfrogs!

Lake Worth ISD Board of Trustees show Appreciation to Staff Just before Thanksgiving break, the LWISD Board of Trustees visited each campus to deliver a special Holiday greeting card to all of the district employees.

Within the envelops was a special letter of gratitude and a one-time stipend.

The staff were grateful, with a few that were taken by surprise by the school board's generosity.

Lake Worth Education Foundation 21-22 Grant Winners On December 16th, the Lake Worth Education Foundation surprised 2021-2022 grant winners with the checks.

Thank You, Trustees!

Governor Greg Abbott proclaimed January 2022 as School Board Recognition Month. In the proclamation, Gov. Abbott stated, "School boards are an integral fabric woven into the tapestry of the Texas education system."

Our school board members are selfless volunteers who spend long hours working to ensure all of our students have the opportunity to learn and grow. They serve as a link between the community and the schools. As elected officials, they establish policies within the district that serves as the framework of how LWISD operates.

We are incredibly grateful for their dedication to our Bullfrogs.
