Rub clean aerators are used in many of our basin taps. These have many advantages which include:

Basin taps:
Where marked will be limited to 5 litres per minute on a high pressure system. This works out as an average daily usage of 9.48 litres a day. For all other basin mixers please consult with the sales office where we can offer other solutions on flow restriction.
Shower heads:
Where marked our showers will be limited to a maximum of 9 litres per minute, therefore having a 4 minute shower you would use 36 litres a day. Please note that some large shower heads require a high flow rate.

1904
In 1904 the Centro Industrial de Ferragens, Lda, CIF was founded, owned by Alberto Costa Reis, and was nicknamed O Biscatão (The Big Oddjob). At that time the factory used rudimentary tools to produce latches, locks, hinges and safes.
1940’s
It was in 1944 that José Marques acquired the company, offering an initial investment of only 400 escudos. Based on an innovative vision for his time, right from the start José Marques to expand his business.
Travels through various European countries, establishing business in Germany, Switzerland, Belgium and France. In 1946, in order to respond to the orders, Cifial acquires the first key machine in the country and one of the first in the Iberian Peninsula.
1960’s
By the early 1960s the company is already operating with 200 workers. The area of the factory continues to increase. In 1961 Cifial installs the first electro erosion machine in the country.
In the second half of the decade the pressure the increase of production dictated the modernization of the industrial process, until then driven manual labour, and now updating to electric power.
1930’s
In the 1930s CIF participated in the first Portuguese colonial fairs, in Angola, thus being a pioneer in terms of exploring international markets. Following a very Styled commercial vision, in 1934 the Cifial brand was registered in order to safeguard the commercial heritage and brand value that was already being felt.
1950’s
Cifial’s internationalization takes a new direction and in 1954 it already has more than 280 new customers in South Africa, Rhodesia, Lourenço Marques and Bissau. The expansion continues, in the following years, to the overseas provinces.
1970’s
At the beginning of the decade, a line of programmed lathes and the first automatic chrome-plating line in the country, go into operation. In 1975, the country’s first ZAMACK die-casting plant is put into operation.
CIFIAL increases its presence in the U.S., in 1976
Cifial ends the year with an annual turnover of 10,5 million escudos.
2000’s
International recognition comes in this decade, collecting 18 international awards, including Red Dot Design Award, GOOD DESIGN and ADEX.
Cifial begins the 21 st century with 90,000 m 2 of area for metalworking and 60,000 m 2 for ceramics, with daily production of 10,700 and 1360 units,respectively. In 2004 Aquatis is totally acquired by Cifial. By this time Cifial has almost 1000 employees spread over its 3 industrial units.
1980’s
With the development of with innovative products based on Cifial’s high quality standards, the company established a strong relationship with its new American customers. In the 1980s Nancy Reagan chose taps from CIFIAL’s Edwardian range in the Broadway Collection for the renovated White House bathrooms.
1990’s
The company’s internalisation was consolidated with the opening of subsidiaries in the UK, USA and Spain. It was also during this decade that the Group bought a stake in Aquatis and acquired the OLIVA and LUSEPI brands, with the aim of becoming a leader in the integrated bathroom solutions sector. In 1996 is one of the first companies in Europe to start PVD production for decorative purposes.
2020’s
Driven by a new leadership, Cifial renews its portfolio and restructures its teams in order to prepare the brand for the great challenges ahead. True to its innovative philosophy, Cifial redefines its commercial strategy in order to occupy again a prominent place in the domestic market among final consumers and traditional distribution. To this end, it extends its offer to a comprehensive solution for the bathroom, launching new product categories such as furniture and shower trays. This new offer and portfolio renewal is now also based on an internationalization of its production, using external production, in Portugal, Spain and Italy among others. At the same time, Cifial is concerned about the environment, developing improvements at the level of water consumption of its products but also in its own industrial process.
It is inaugurated in 2023, an internal installation and electrical energy using solar panels with a total area of 3.000 m 2 and production capacity of up to 847 MWh/year.
The corporate Image follows the new direction of the brand always maintaining the original values that have made CIFIAL one of the brands of reference throughout its 120 years of activity.
In 2022 Cifial again sees the international recognition of its products by being awarded with the GOOD DESIGN AWARD given by The Chicago Athenaeum, for its new faucets collection Legacif.

Cifial offer the highest quality electrolytic plating which are hand finished. With appropriate care and maintenance, CIFIAL products keep their original appearance for many years. In order to maintain their original surface finish you just need to follow some simple recommendations:
* Always dry with soft cloth after use.
* Rinse regularly with water and dry with a soft cloth
* Never use abrasive cleaning products containing hydrochloric acid, bleach or other inappropriate chemicals, including abrasive scouring pads.
* Extra care should be taken if you live in a hard water area. Should limescale build-up appear please clean with vinegar and rinse thoroughly with water. Dry with a soft cloth.
* Extra care should also be taken when using personal toiletries such as toothpaste, shower gels, soaps, etc as these can leave residue that may cause blemishes. Always make sure surfaces are rinsed thoroughly with water and dry with a soft cloth.
* For satin metal surfaces apply a little vaseline or wax to help maintain the brightness.
Stock finishes
IMPORTANT: In addition to the care and maintenance guide above, extra special care needs to be applied to products in a Matt Black finish. Due to the finish being baked/painted onto the surface the Matt Black finish can be susceptible to chipping, so extra care must be taken, for example, not to knock handles etc with rings or other jewellery, and special attention needs to be taken when replacing shower handsets gently into their holders etc

Polished Chrome - A ten year guarantee is extended on all bathroom and kitchen products with Cifial UK’s chrome plate finish when installed in a residential application
Special finishes (including Matt Black) - A one year guarantee is extended on all bathroom products with Cifial UK’s special finishes when installed in a residential application. All special finishes are non returnable,
General Cleaning - We recommend that Cifial products are cleaned using a soft damp cloth, we strongly advise against using any cleaning products, either powders or liquids, as they may contain harmful chemicals which could damage the product.
A ten year guarantee is extended on all components to be free from failure due to defects in material and workmanship when installed in a residential application (excludes wear and tear parts - see below) The removal of flow restrictors in shower heads voids the guarantee.
A one year guarantee is extended on all wear and tear parts including sealants, waste clickers, membranes, all cartridges, diverters, flexible hoses, shower hoses and electronic components.
The shower valve thermostatic cartridge especially in hard water areas should be removed and cleaned regularly, and the thermostatic control handle moved between maximum and minimum limits in accordance with our installation instructions to prevent the build up of limescale incrustation which could block up the thermostatic cartridge.
