A welcome from our Head of Boarding At LVS Ascot, boarding is far more than a place to stay; it is a vibrant, caring community where every young person is encouraged to thrive. We are proud to provide a warm, supportive environment that feels like and often becomes a second home, fostering independence, resilience, and lifelong friendships and memories. Our dedicated boarding staff work closely with each boarder to ensure they feel safe, valued, and inspired to achieve their full potential. Whether joining us for many years or just a short time, every child becomes part of a community built on respect, opportunity, and belonging. James Wilder Head of Boarding

A home away from home At LVS Ascot, boarding is about much more than a place to stay. It is about becoming part of a welcoming and supportive community where students can feel at home, build confidence and make friendships that can last a lifetime. Our boarders thrive in an environment built on trust and respect, supported by an experienced team of residential staff who are there to guide, encourage and care for them. We recognise that when students are happy and feel secure, they are able to make the most of school life, both academically and beyond the classroom. With nearly 200 beds across four Boarding Houses and more than 25 nationalities represented within our boarding community, life at LVS Ascot is vibrant and international. Students have the opportunity to live alongside people from different countries and cultures, sharing experiences, learning from one another and developing a broader outlook on the world.

Supporting young puplis from overseas as they embark on their first boarding school experience. Moving to a new country and school can be both exciting and challenging, so we provide guidance and reassurance to help pupils settle in, build confidence, make friends and feel comfortable in their new surroundings. This sense of community is celebrated throughout the year. From Christmas and Easter to Diwali, Dashain, Lunar New Year and Nepali New Year, our boarders come together to recognise traditions and celebrations from around the world, often with traditional food, music, dancing and games. Armed Forces Families events, International Day and International Women’s Day and Pancake Day are among the many other occasions that bring our community together.

Modern boarding in a safe and secure campus All four Boarding Houses are located within our spacious 26-acre campus in Ascot, providing students with a safe and secure environment in which to live, learn and enjoy school life. Our modern Boarding Houses are designed to provide students with both independence and a sense of belonging. Each House includes large, comfortable common areas where boarders can relax, socialise and spend time together, alongside full kitchen facilities for students to use. Laundry facilities are provided throughout the school week, with boarders also able to do their

own washing should they wish, helping students develop the practical skills and independence that prepare them for life beyond school. With outstanding facilities across the wider campus and excellent travel links to London and major airports, LVS Ascot offers a forward-thinking boarding experience where students can make the most of everything school life has to offer. Through shared experiences, opportunities, challenges and celebrations, our boarders create memories and friendships that extend far beyond their time at LVS Ascot.

Over 60% of our boarding community belong to forces families, spanning Year 6 all the way through to Year 13. • We offer a 20% discount off day and boarding fees for those currently serving in the Armed Forces, or those who have served for five consecutive years in the past.

• The school also provides a discount on fees for families eligible for the Continuity of Education Allowance (CEA). • Under the CEA scheme, families are required to pay a minimum of 10% of school fees, with the CEA covering up to 90% up to a capped amount. Once that cap is reached, we discount our school fees so that LVS Ascot parents pay the required 10% of the discounted amount. On boarding fees, this could amount to only around £300 per month. FAQs • Q: Can I visit my child in Boarding? • A: We believe that it is very important for Boarders to take as many opportunities as possible to spend time with their parents. Therefore, if you are in the area during the week, then pop in and take your Boarder out for dinner. • Q: Do Boarders have access to their phones overnight? • A: Everyone in and including Years 5-11 must hand all their electronic devices in every night before they go to bed. They are then able to collect them the following morning ready for School. • Q: What is the food like? • A: The food is provided by Sodexo Independents. Menus are well balanced and careful consideration of pupil voice is taken into account as far as possible. There is a Boarders’ food committee which meets regularly where views of the food provision can be aired. • Q: Is there a charge for trips and activities? • A: All trips and activities organised by and during Boarding time are included within the School fees. • Q: What happens at the weekend when there is no timetabled lessons? • A: We try to make weekends as relaxed as possible, to ensure Boarders get the same opportunities to rest as their Day counterparts. We also ensure that there is a programme of activities and trips across the weekend that Boarders can be involved in. It is also expected that there will be opportunities for Boarders to study over the course of the weekend too. • Q: What do you do to help new Boarders settle in to the new environment? • A: Boarders are assigned buddies or mentors within the Boarding house. As far as possible, new Boarders are roomed with experienced members of the community to ease integration and to encourage a swift transition. In September, those that are new all come in a few days before everyone else and have time to get to know Boarding Staff and the Prefects. This also gives them the opportunity to start forming friendships and get to know the local area and School. • Q: What co-curricular activities are available? • A: The Boarders can join in the extensive co-curricular programme that the School offers. The Boarders then have another evening co-curricular programme that runs after prep just for Boarders. Each House also partakes in whole House activities regularly and there is always plenty to do over the weekends.

14

• Q: How does laundry work? • A: Boarders are assigned a laundry number which should be written on the label of all clothing. Laundry is washed daily during the working week, with a bed change day once a week too. • Q: What do they have to bring to boarding? • A: Uniform and school equipment, some items of casual clothes, toiletries, a couple of towels and any items (which might include their own bedding) that makes them feel at home. • Q: What studying is there outside of the normal School day? • A: Within the daily routine, there is always compulsory prep sessions each evening of varying lengths and levels of supervision dependent on age. We also have compulsory prep hours at the weekend, and it is made clear to the Boarders that they are expected to be independent and organise their free time to include extra working time if they require it. • Q: What medical provision is there for Boarders? • A: We have a Health and Wellbeing Centre onsite. This is manned by nurses during the School day and into the evening. Boarding staff take over for the overnight. We also have a wellbeing practitioner during the School day who works closely with those boarders that needs support and there is a counsellor available should the Boarders need to access one. All Boarding staff are fully first aid trained and senior Boarding staff are also qualified mental health first aiders. • Q: How do International Boarders access NHS care? • Boarders here on a visa are required to pay the NHS surcharge as part of the conditions of their time at LVS Ascot. Once at School, all Boarders are required to be registered with the School Doctor, the process of which is dealt with by the Lead Nurse. • Q: How do Boarders access routine medical appointments? • A: We ask that annual check ups such as dental and optician appointments are, like for their day student counter parts, organised outside of School time during holidays. Any regular check-ups, appointments (such as physiotherapy) or emergency appointments can be and are generally facilitated by Boarding staff. • Q: Are there any compulsory exeat weekends? • A: No, Boarding is open throughout all term times, including the May Day Bank Holiday weekend. Although Boarders are welcome to go home at weekends should they wish.
