On Wednesday, June 17, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) Foundation awarded 12 children of active-duty LVMPD police and corrections officers with the Alyn Beck and Igor Soldo Memorial Scholarship at LVMPD Headquarters. Named in memory of Fallen Officers Alyn Beck and Igor Soldo, this scholarship is awarded to children of LVMPD law enforcement for the sixth consecutive year. This year, because of the generosity of Ron Coury and Don Tamburro who gave $50,000 and Switch who gave $10,000, the LVMPD Foundation is able to fund twelve $5,000 scholarships, each to college or vocational school-bound students. With their contribution this year, Mr.Coury and Mr. Tamburro have now given $300,000 to the scholarship fund. “It is an absolute privilege to award these well-deserving students within our LVMPD family, and we are grateful for the generosity of Mr. Ron Coury and Mr. Don Tamburro each year, and to Switch for $10,000 this year,” said Tom Kovach, executive director of the LVMPD Foundation. “Since many did not get the opportunity to celebrate their senior year as envisioned, this is a special day to commend our local youth for all of their hard work and commitment to furthering their education.” These scholarship funds are earmarked to offset the costs of the students’ tuition, fees, and books related to their college or vocational education.
