Your chance to be a King or Queen: Mirabilia Castle, in Willung South, has been put back on the market. Reg Fazzani (pictured) built the castle with his two hands. file photograph Castle goes on the market

By LIAM DURKIN

MIRABILIA Castle in Willung South is on the market. The castle is situated off the Hyland Highway just a short drive from Gormandale, and sits on five-and-a-half acres overlooking the bushland below. The castle boasts everything seen in a movie, from arch window sills to parapet towers, as well as a great hall. Builder and occupant Reg Fazzani has again listed the property, after previous attempts to sell in 2016 and 2018 saw it linger on the market for a total of 579 days. The property has been listed with Ray White Rural, which reported inquiries from across the state. It is anticipated buyers will need to fork out at least $1.5 million for the castle. A feature story in The Express last October on Mr Fazzani revealed the 86-year-old pensioner didn’t see himself living out his final days at Mirabilia, as he looked to downsize. Mr Fazzani has lived quite an extraordinary life, building not one but three castles without any formal training in building or bricklaying. He has described castle building as “just like building a giant Lego set”. Mirabilia Castle is located at 2638 Hyland Highway.

Hard rubbish demand doubles

LATROBE City Council has confirmed it will finish its hard rubbish collection this month. A Latrobe City Council spokesperson said hard waste collections are expected to be completed by mid-January. “Council received double the number of hard waste bookings compared to the previous year, which resulted in some delays,” the spokesperson said. “In some cases, general waste was collected first and recyclable items and steel were collected at a later time. “We would like to thank the community for their patience as collections are completed and apologise for the delays.” Council confirmed there were plans to resolve last year’s issues to meet demand, when the next stage of hard rubbish collection takes place later this year. “We are working to resolve these issues to ensure that our service can manage high levels of demand in the future,” the spokesperson said.

Two men arrested after Moe Subway robbery

TWO men were arrested after allegedly robbing Moe’s Subway restaurant in the early morning hours of Wednesday, January 5. Police were called to the fast-food restaurant on Moore St, after an alarm was triggered at 1.40am. Cash was allegedly taken from a safe inside the restaurant, before those involved left the scene in a waiting vehicle. Half an hour after police attended the scene, Warragul police intercepted a 2016 Ford sedan travelling on the Princes Highway in Drouin. The driver, a 39-year-old Reservoir man and passenger, a 31-year-old Drouin man, were arrested after police located a sledgehammer, allegedly stolen paperwork, and cash in the vehicle. The two men were taken to Warragul police station, where they assisted police with enquiries.

Morwell man arrested in Drouin

A 27-year-old Morwell man was arrested just before midnight on Wednesday, January 5 after allegedly ramming a police vehicle. Police officers were patrolling the area when they observed an allegedly stolen gold Mazda sedan parked in a driveway on Kraft Crescent, Drouin. They stopped in front of the vehicle, and the driver allegedly accelerated into the police vehicle, before fleeing the scene on foot through a neighbouring property. Police cordoned off the area, and located the man hiding on the roof of a residential property. The police vehicle sustained moderate damage, and no officers were injured. It was later established that the Mazda sedan was allegedly stolen from a Morwell address between 12pm on Tuesday, January 4 and 12am on Wednesday, January 5.
