Once upon a time in Hazelwood
The former Hazelwood Power Station Boiler House 1 lies in a pile of broken debris after it was demolished last week. FULL STORY - PAGES 2-3.
CASES RISING LATROBE City is home to regional Victoria’s largest COVID-19 outbreak. The active cases across the region climbed to 317 yesterday, with more than 180 reported in the past four days alone. The peak came on Friday, with 69 new cases reported, with 37 reported in the 24 hours up to midnight yesterday. The 3840 postcode (Morwell district) has 117 active cases, 3825 postcode (Moe/Newborough district) 115 and 3844 postcode (Traralgon district) 56.
The 3842 postcode (Churchill district) has 18, with active cases in 3869 (Yinnar district) and 3856 (Glengarry district). The state’s chief health officer, Professor Brett Sutton said on Friday health officials were closely monitoring the outbreak in Latrobe City. “Latrobe is experiencing high case numbers, (close to) 70 today, so big challenges there,” Prof Sutton told a media briefing. “We’ve had days like that in the past in regional Victoria. “They’ve pushed through with higher and higher vaccination rates and got on top of those numbers by following the
public health pillars such as isolation, quarantine and contract tracing done by our public health teams.” Prof Sutton reported Latrobe City’s vaccination rates were closing in on state averages, with 91 per cent of people aged 16 years and over having received one dose and 66 per cent of people receiving two doses. As of Friday, Latrobe Regional Hospital had nine COVID-19 patients, four of which were in ICU. An employee at AGL’s Loy Yang A power station recently returned a positive COVID-19 test. “An AGL Loy Yang employee has
tested positive for COVID-19 and all close contacts with this employee have been notified and asked to follow current government advice,” an AGL spokeswoman said. “The safety and wellbeing of our people is our highest priority and we will be supporting impacted employees during their isolation. “AGL Loy Yang has strict COVIDSafe measures on site, including social distancing and hygiene protocols. We have notified WorkSafe and commenced a deep clean at site. Continued on page 5
