LVC survives Homecoming thriller against FDU-Florham Jake Leamer ’20 STAFF WRITER After heading into the locker room at halftime with a 24-7 lead, it seemed as though LVC would run away with the score once play resumed; however, the second half proved otherwise and left the large Homecoming crowd biting their nails until the final horn. The Dutchmen hosted the Devils of Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham on Saturday, Oct. 12. The highly anticipated matchup between LVC and FDU-Florham served as one of many athletic events played during LVC’s Homecoming weekend, drawing a massive crowd of supporters. After seeing its lead cut down to just one point in the final minutes of the game, LVC’s defense stepped up when it mattered most, helping the Dutch-

men defeat the Devils by a score of 31-30. The Dutchmen took a 24-7 lead with them at half time against an FDU-Florham team that had little to no answer on offense or defense. LVC
started its scoring in the first quarter after Hunter Wilson turned on the jets and ripped off a long, 73-yard touchdown on the first play of the drive, putting the Dutchmen up 7-0 after a Nick Bentz extra point.
LVC broke the game wide open in the second quarter, all starting with a quarterback sneak from Kody Kegarise at the one-yard line that resulted in a touchdown. Exactly seven minutes later, Nick Bentz drilled a 49-yard field goal that looked like it would have been good from 65-yards out. Less than two minutes following the Bentz field goal, LVC’s Chance Atkins intercepted a pass from FDU quarterback Anthony Caserta for an easy, 48-yard pick-six that put the Dutchmen up 24-0. The Dutchmen were pouring it on and FDU did not have an answer until FDU running back Robert Blakely threw a two-yard touchdown pass on a third and goal to Benjamin Calderon just before half time. Mock Interview Mania Week Autumn Light ’20 STAFF WRITER The Edward and Lynn Breen Center of Graduate Success will be holding this semester’s Mock Interview Mania Week from Oct. 21-25. At LVC, the Breen Center offers many opportunities and events for students to work on their professionalism and after-college careers. One of their major events of the semester is Mock Interview Mania Week, where they invite volunteer employers and alumni to hold mock interviews with
students. When finished, students will be given feedback from their interviewers, including the list of questions that were asked, how well they answered and what they need to improve for future interviews. “I learned a lot and got great feedback,” Claire Fitzgibbons, a senior English major, said. “I thought they explained where I could improve and where I did well. The feedback was positive and constructive.” Many students enjoy that the
Breen Center’s method of conducting interviews blends a realistic expectation of real employers’ interviews with a friendly atmosphere that stimulates conversations, questions and feedback about the job world. There are no stakes on the line, which allows a safe space for students to practice their interview skills before they graduate. Although interviews may instill fear in many undergraduates, most students who participate in the mock interviews have nothing but
positive responses from their experiences. “I have done Mock Interview Mania Week multiple semesters in a row,” Paige Bryson, a senior English major, said. “I have a great experience every time. The feedback is always constructive, and I build a network with HR professionals that I can connect with on LinkedIn.” Students must sign up by Oct. 20, by 11 p.m. on Handshake. They are also asked to act and dress professionally for their mock interviews.
