SEASON IS IN FULL SWING!

Here’s hoping everyone had a great Labor Day Weekend -- welcome back to the full-fledged football season! Since our last newsletter there has been a bit of news. The Pac-12 Conference is undergoing quite a transformation as 10 of its dozen teams are heading to other destinations in 2024. However, that’s a longer-term issue. For now, this fall, the Pac-12 is turning in an amazing start. In fact, it just became the first league in history to win its first 13 games overall. Half the conference is ranked and its collection of quarterbacks has been described by some media outlets as possibly the greatest ever in one league at the same time. That all means that we are in for one entertaining ride to the postseason and a super deep talent pool to choose from to take on a Big Ten opponent in the Las Vegas Bowl on December 23.

LAS VEGAS BOWL PREPARES FOR THE BIG DAY!

College football goes the extra yard for teachers all week, specifically Friday, September 15 through Saturday, September 23.

Universities, conferences, bowl games, ESPN, and education supporters across the country will honor and recognize great teachers through an 8-day celebration, highlighted by The Big Day for Teachers on Tuesday, September 19.

The Las Vegas Bowl and the Las Vegas Bowl Huddle will select three Clark County schools at random to let teachers know they are valued and respected. The Huddle will treat teachers to their first cup of coffee in the morning and then provide some much needed classroom supplies.

The Las Vegas Bowl would like to elevate the teaching profession by inspiring and empowering teachers. With the growing student population, there is a need for enhanced learning opportunities. The Huddle will offer a solution to funding these innovative and unique learning opportunities presented by Clark County teachers.

All fall the Huddle will support the Extra Yard for Teachers program through community involvement and plans to raise $15,000, which will then be matched by the CFP Foundation. The $30,000 will then be awarded in Donors Choose gift cards to selected Clark County teachers to help support classroom projects based on leadership, health and fitness.

Over the last two years, the Las Vegas Bowl, with generous matching support from the College Football Foundation, has awarded $60,000 in grants to 18 teachers to help support school projects in the area of health, fitness and leadership at 16 Clark County schools.

EARLY BOWL PROJECTIONS

While we are just one week into the college football season, many of the prognosticators are giving us their best guess as to which teams will be meeting in the 2023 SRS Distribution Las Vegas Bowl (as of Sept. 5).

CONFERENCE STANDINGS

Non-conference success for both the Pac-12 and Big Ten Conferences during the open week of the season as the Pac-12 was perfect at 12-0 outside of league play. With USC’s win in week zero, the Pac-12 has started the year 13-0. The Big Ten, which played three conference games in the opening week, was an impressive 7-1 in nonconference action.

Below are the current standings for both Conferences, with conference record listed first, followed by overall record (as of Sept. 5).

Rankings listed are Associated Press. The College Football Playoff rankings will start on Tuesday, October 31 and will continue each Tuesday through November with the final ranking released on Sunday, December 3.
