In 2015, Audemars Piguet awakened sound with the Royal Oak Concept RD#1 – the most sonically considered concept watch of modern times, propelling acoustic performance in chiming watches to unparalleled levels. Eight years in the making, with the watchmaker as key sound producer, that concept timepiece presented dynamic innovations that defied practical restrictions, such as waterproofing. Just 12 months later, that concept became reality. In 2016, Audemars Piguet presents an outstanding new wristwatch: the Royal Oak Concept Supersonnerie, a minute repeater of superior acoustic intensity with a supremely clear, sustained tone. Three new pioneering chiming sound developments have become technological achievements, patented innovations. Presented in a super-light titanium case, this exclusiveproduction timepiece is precision-made to awaken sound. It brings unprecedented acoustic performance, exceptionally refined sound quality and the clear,

harmonic tone of traditional pocket-watches to a contemporary minute repeater wristwatch. Since the Manufacture was founded, generations of watchmakers have progressed complex mechanisms created in Le Brassus into future-forward technologies through every decade of the 20th and 21st centuries. That tradition continues through our pioneering chiming watches sound study programme, started in 2006, in collaboration with the EPFL (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne). Today, soundmeasurement facilities are installed at the Manufacture, where various amplification methods, such as an anechoic chamber and microphone recordings, assist a dedicated team of watchmakers, artisans, technicians and academics in creating chiming technologies for the future. Restrictions of necessary technology, such as waterproofing, which diffuses sound, are being overcome; acoustic performance is scientifically augmented.

“CHAOS” COLLECTION

Designed by Sylvester Stallone Designed by Sylvester Stallone, the Chaos Pen, impressive in its sheer presence, is the first “heavy metal” pen, an endorsement made real by Chaos fans including Scorpions’ guitarist, Rudolf Schenker. Stallone also designed another accessory not usually associated with hard-rocking axe-merchants, bikers or cinematic mercenaries: the Chaos Cufflinks, which add an air of danger to any sober suit. Like the pen, the Chaos Cufflinks found an audience that appreciated the mythos from medieval origins. His artistry has translated into objects d’art the mystical, magical ambience of a painting by Bosch, a gargoyle from Notre Dame. To complete a triumvirate of wearable Chaotic treasures, Sylvester Stallone and Montegrappa designed a Chaos Automatic Analogue Wristwatch. Hand-made in northern Italy, the Chaos timepiece is an ideal partner for the pen and the cufflinks that inspired it. Fashioned from a choice of silver or gold, the case is very striking, featuring the signature skull-andserpents motif, including a small, engraved skull on the winding crown. The case is fitted with a leather strap accented by contrasting edges, terminating in a buckle with the skull motif, while the dial features applied Roman numerals, suggesting the antiquity of the Middle Ages. The black, bilevel, brushed guilloché dial with luminous hands and date aperture at 3 O’clock is protected by a sapphire crystal. Within each forged sterling silver or 18k solid gold case beats a Swiss heart. Montegrappa has chosen one of the world’s most dependable automatic “engines” to power the Chaos, capturing the same ferocious spirit as the Chaos Pen.

BENTLEY MULSANNE _

S P E E D

_ ‘Our motto is: ‘If you can imagine it, we can create it,’’ At first glance this may read like the motto of Mulliner, Bentley’s bespoke division. However, these are the words of George Bamford of Bamford Watch Department, a man who describes his business as ‘NIKEiD meets Mulliner’. A long-time Bentley customer, Bamford has designed and commissioned a bespoke Mulsanne Speed to his own unique specification, delivered by Mulliner. His dark-themed Mulsanne Speed features unique details and the finished car is striking, stealthy and contemporary in equal measure.

With a desire to trim the centre of the seats in a way that would complement the material of a suit, Mr Bamford decided to trim the centre panels in fabric. To highlight this, the Kingfisher accent was applied again,

The Bamford Watch Department specialises in the bespoke customisation of wristwatches, their signature is the all-black colour scheme. Bamford’s family own an extensive car collection featuring many extraordinary Bentleys, with Mulliner frequently cited by him as a key influence in the founding of his business. This unique interpretation of the Bentley Mulsanne is a true reflection of his style. As his signature, the Bamford Mulsanne features more black and dark-tinted elements than any Bentley before, with a Beluga finish to all of the interior and exterior brightware, including 21” Mulliner Driving Specification wheels. Kingfisher accents are seen in the front centre armrest, smartphone drawer and illuminated rear seat cabinet, in addition to a contrast stripe to the steering wheel and the face of the front console clock.

using a very specific and unusual stitching design. The 4 mm Kingfisher pinstripe sits between two stitch lines that fall 6 mm apart, framing


the pinstripe and accentuating the contrast colour even further. Many Mulsanne customers specify a Champagne Cooler or Cocktail Cabinet within the rear of the cabin, however with Bamford’s background in horology a different solution was required. Mulliner have adapted the illuminated cocktail cabinet to house a bespoke watch case finished in carbon fibre.

The case was Bamford’s own, modified by Mulliner in a new carbon fibre finish and with Bentley detailing. Mulliner’s own cocktail cabinet design was then modified to accommodate the watch case, and trimmed in Kingfisher accent hide to match the other contrast details. This adaptation of the cocktail cabinet was done specifically for Bamford and is the first of its kind.

In January 1961, Elvis Presley walked into the Beverley Hills Rolls-Royce dealership. Flush with the success of his music career and a five-year movie deal, he ordered a Rolls-Royce Phantom V; the only motor car in the world that could possibly befit his status as the ‘King of Rock & Roll’. From that day on, a Rolls-Royce motor car became the conveyance of choice for the music scene’s burgeoning elite. Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has contributed to the myth and legend of the contemporary music scene since the birth of Rock & Roll. Over half a century later, this long-standing love affair lives on, with some of the world’s most celebrated artists choosing the marque as the ultimate affirmation of their success. It is in this spirit that Rolls-Royce Motor Cars debuted the Wraith ‘Inspired by Music’.

Every Rolls-Royce Wraith ‘Inspired by Music’ comes with Bespoke Audio; the most exhaustively designed sound system in automotive history. With Wraith ‘Inspired by Music’, the precious materials used in the Bespoke Audio system, are brought to the fore, creating ‘the most exclusive music venue’ that delivers an unrivalled aural experience.

Many of these cars have taken their place in automotive and music folklore. John Lennon, for example, acquired a Phantom V in 1965. During his ownership he commissioned a number of cuttingedge additions for the time including; a television, portable refrigerator, record player and the first blacked-out windows to appear on a car in England. He was so enamoured with the interior comfort of the finest riding car in the world, he is reported to have converted the rear bench-seat into a double bed.

The Bespoke Audio system was created from scratch with the radial lines playfully emulating the look and feel of vinyl records. The extraordinary clarity of sound and dynamic range is delivered via a 1300W, 18 channel system comprising two highly powerful bass speakers, seven tweeters and seven mid range speakers. In 1668, the young monk Pierre Pérignon takes office as the cellarer and procurator of the Benedictine abbey of Hautvillers on the northern slopes of the Marne, in the heart of Champagne. Under his watch, the abbey prospers, especially its vineyards.

Until his death in 1715, he makes no exception to his ambitions for perfection, to create “the best wine in the world” as said in his own words on September 29, 1694. Dom Pierre Pérignon invents, perfects, and passes on the enhanced techniques to create a wine whose reputation is second to none.

“Father Pérignon’s wine” acquired such a reputation for excellence that the wine merchants of His Majesty the Sun King soon brought word of it to the Royal Court at Versailles.

LAUNCHES THE FABULOUS CAPSULE HANDBAG

Bentley, the British automobile brand that is as synonymous with upscale style as it is with high performance sports cars, has turned its attention to women with a new collection of handbags. The names of the first two models in the capsule collection set the tone: “The Continental” and “The Barnato.” The first honors Bentley’s signature automobile, first marketed in 1952, while the second is a nod to British aviatrix Diana Barnato, who is also the daughter of the Bentley Boy Woolf Barnato. For this initial launch, only 160 pieces will be sold. Each model will be available in four colors, with prices ranging between $7,500 and $9,500. This is not the first time that Bentley has brought its illustrious brand name to other luxury products than cars. The company recently presented a complete interior decoration collection in partnership with Luxury Living Group as well as a precious perfume developed in collaboration with Lalique.
