The Richard Mille collection distinguishes itself by having created not one, but several models within a short timespan that have become recognized by collectors and insiders alike as ultimate icons of contemporary watchmaking. Richard Mille felt that the moment has arrived to present a new icon of the future: the RM 67-01 Automatic Extra Flat chronograph. The mechanical aspect of creating a thin automatic has its own set of particular difficulties, but one of the dual challenges is to combine this type of movement design with the creation of a sense of visual depth within the movement - a central tenet to Richard Mille’s approach. The extreme use of skeletonisation in the RM 67-01 carries many clues in this respect, however a new approach to the dial construction carries the eyes from the edges of the bezel in three layers to the central area’s hour and minute hands. The numerals in this new model have been created from solid metal and mounted on two linked and rigid titanium rails attached directly to the movement. The vertical date window, now moved to the right side of the dial at 5 o’clock. The automatic movement CRMA6 created for the RM 67-01 is a new calibre of only 3.6mm thickness, designed in house by the engineers in Les Breuleux. The baseplate and bridges have been created from grade 5 titanium and finished with a combination of gray and black electroplasma treatment, with a winding rotor weight in platinum.

profiles for the entire going train, instead of the standard cycloidal shaped teeth as normally used in watchmaking. Such profiles can be found in transmissions of cars and many highly efficient motors of all kinds; however their use in the field of watchmaking is rare and exceptional. Such teeth profiles allow for a more efficient transfer of energy through the going train, thus providing superior chronometric results. Between 1 and 2 o’clock, the function indicator for Winding, Date and Hand setting can be seen. Although this new timepiece is an automatic winding timepiece, it will require a little bit of winding when used for the first time or after having not been worn for a few days. The indicator moves as the crown is pulled out, thus taking the guesswork out of choosing a function only by touch or the number of ‘clicks’ as one moves the crown in and out. After completion of this machining phase, the watch case undergoes brushing and polishing, all executed by hand, then assembly with sapphire glass and sealants to undergo a preliminary water resistance testing, before being disassembled and undergoing a final quality control. Only then will the movement be mounted within its subtle lines. All of these operations make the Richard Mille tonneau case one of the most complex cases created in Switzerland today.

On its official debut at the Geneva Motor Show, the Ferrari 488 GTB set a new benchmark for the super sports car sector. Forty years on from the launch of Ferrari’s iconic first-ever mid-rearengined VB berlinetta, the 308 GTB, the Ferrari 488 GTB opens a new chapter in the history of cars with this particular architecture.

They accentuate the car’s sportiness yet retain the classically clean, pure lines typical of Ferrari’s legendary styling. The seamless interweaving of form and function is clear in every detail, in fact. Certain design elements also draw on styling cues from the past, not least the 308 GTB-inspired scalloped flanks.

The 488 in the car’s moniker indicates the engine’s unitary displacement, while the GTB stands for Gran Turismo Berlinetta, a reference to its deep roots in Ferrari history.

The Ferrari 488 GTB makes its debut in a new Rosso Corsa Met livery with black and red technical fabric cabin trim, and in a Grigio Ferro Met livery with black and Beige Tradizione leather interior trim.

Extreme power was a requisite for the car and is delivered by the new 3902 cc turbo engine coupled to a seven-gear F1 dual-clutch gearbox featuring Variable Boost Management which optimally distributes torque to a maximum of 760 Nm in seventh gear. The Ferrari 488 GTB guarantees exuberant performance that is absolutely exploitable to the fullest regardless of driving conditions and is accompanied by a deep, seductive soundtrack, the signature of all Ferrari engines.

On the subject of extreme performance, also featuring on the stand is the F12berlinetta which is the most powerful car in the Ferrari range, courtesy of its 740 cv V12 engine and transaxle architecture. It continues to enjoy such enormous success worldwide that in certain countries the waiting list is over a year long.

The Ferrari 488 GTB’s revolutionary aerodynamics incorporate patented solutions, such as the blown rear spoiler, as well as innovative features like the 458 GT-derived aerodynamic underbody with vortex generators. The result is a new efficiency record for a Ferrari (E=1.67). Downforce increases to 325 kg at 250 km/h, thanks in part to active aerodynamic devices which reduce drag whilst simultaneously generating downforce when required. The Ferrari 488 GTB’s dynamic vehicle controls have also been further evolved. It sports a new version of the Side Slip Control System (SSC2) which, aside from just integrating with the car’s F1 -Trac and E-Diff, now also controls the active dampers. This renders the Ferrari 488 GTB’s dynamic behaviour during complex manoeuvres even flatter and more stable, so that less expert drivers can enjoy its potential to the fullest, resulting in an extremely thrilling driving experience. Designed by the Ferrari Styling Centre, the Ferrari 488 GTB’s sculptural forms are completely new.

Two versions of the F12berlinetta are on show in Geneva: the first sports the now­traditional triplelayer Rosso Maranello livery with a leather interior and carbon-fibre trim, while the second is a Tailor Made homage to the Ecurie Francorchamps team, specifically the 250 GTO that won the 1964 Tour de France. It is in the same Argento Auteil colour as the latter with a triple-layer yellow racing crossstripe on its bonnet. The Tailor Made programme, Ferrari’s exclusive personalisation service, now boasts over 450 new materials which are homologated for automotive use for the first time. Alongside the sports cars are the GTs: the California T coupe-cabriolet in an elegant twotone Nero Stellato and Grigio Brunito livery complemented by a Tortora cabin is joined by the four-seater, four-wheel-drive FF in modern Bianco Italia with a Sterling interior. Both models feature CarPlay, the simplest, safest and most entertaining way to use your iPhone in the car. CarPlay is incredibly intuitive and offers phone, map, music and message access by either voice control or a tap of the central display. The system is enjoying particular popularity on the FF where it has been specified by half of all clients ordering it.

Over half a century later, this long-standing love affair lives on, with some of the world’s most celebrated artists choosing the marque as the ultimate affirmation of their success. Every Rolls-Royce Wraith ‘Inspired by Music’ comes with Bespoke Audio; the most exhaustively designed sound system in automotive history. With Wraith ‘Inspired by Music’, the precious materials used in the Bespoke Audio system, are brought to the fore, creating ‘the most exclusive music venue’ that delivers an unrivalled aural experience.

Many of these cars have taken their place in automotive and music folklore. John Lennon, for example, acquired a Phantom V in 1965. During his ownership he commissioned a number of cuttingedge additions for the time including; a television, portable refrigerator, record player and the first blacked-out windows to appear on a car in England. He was so enamoured with the interior comfort of the finest riding car in the world, he is reported to have converted the rear bench-seat into a double bed.

The Bespoke Audio system was created from scratch with the radial lines playfully emulating the look and feel of vinyl records. T H E O C U L U S BY MISSION HILL _ ONE OF BC’S FLAGSHIP WINES _ Exclusive magazine went on a quest through the okanagan valley exploring the ‘best of the best’ in viticulture to bring you the most exclusive of BC’s Finest ‘must have’ wines for your cellar. Mission Hill, established in 1981 by Anthony von Mandl, currently makes the most expensive wine in the Okanagan. Located in West Kelowna, overlooking Okanagan Lake, its setting mirrors the austerity of an Italian monastery. I reach Ingo Grady, Mission Hill’s wine educator, in a Vancouver taxi just having arrived from Manhattan, where he and von Mandl were launching a new wine. Grady, is an eloquent spokesperson for the winery. When asked about its flagship wine, he doesn’t hesitate. “Oculus is what we get up for in the morning.” Designed to age for ten+ years, Oculus is a singular wine considered to be Canada’s “first growth”, an achievement which reflects the winery’s status. The grapes for this wine are hand selected from the von Mandl family’s estate vineyards on the east side of Osoyoos Lake. After a rigorous fermentation and aging process, with only 4% of grapes being selected from the harvest, the wine is already 19 months old by the time it is bottled. It is then aged for another two-three years and finally released after four. The 2011 vintage has been released this year. Next year, the 2012 vintage will be released, and so on. Oculus has been made every year since 1997, with fifteen vintages in total. “The analogy of a luxury brand is correct -- Mission Hill is the living definition a luxury brand of wine. It’s priced to its stature,” says Grady. The current 2011 Oculus released is priced at $125 retail and up to $250 in restaurants. www.missionhillwinery.com

hand. A process which takes no less than sixty hands to complete -

sixty meticulous, precise, swift-moving hands are integral to creating the exquisitely subtle taste of Patrón Tequila.

“I’m so proud of Patrón because we produce the best Tequila in the world”, says Master Distiller Francisco Alcaraz., who has been with Patrón from the very beginning,. “This is the heart not only of the plant, but what we do and what we love”, says Antonio Rodriguez holding up a freshly chopped pina of the Agave plant. Like the Agave plant itself, this depth of sentiment for Patrón seems to be present in the entire Patrón family. At the very start the Patrón harvesters test the Agave’s sugar content, and only the finest move on to become Patrón Tequila. The pinas are then transported to the nearby Hacienda Patrón in Jalisco Mexico, which was built to honour those who walk through its grand doors and for the beauty beyond them. It’s within these walls that the transformation from pina to Patrón takes place.

The Agave pinas are hand-chopped, baked for more than three days in masoned brick ovens to soften them, crushed with a two-tonne volcanic stone tahona wheel to release their juices, fermented for at least seventy-two hours and distilled in handmade copper stills to ensure the flavours are crisp and smooth. Patron’s aged tequilas are placed in handmade barrels enveloping the tequila in their distinct aromas and flavours. Even the bottles receive hands-on attention. Skilled glass artisans from Mexico create each Patrón bottle by hand as unique pieces of art, much like art glass Murano. The corks are crafted from bark from cork trees near Lisbon, Portugal. Each bottle of Patrón is hand-numbered and signed, the final step in creating the exquisite Patrón Tequila.

Designed by Sylvester Stallone Designed by Sylvester Stallone, the Chaos Pen, impressive in its sheer presence, is the first “heavy metal” pen, an endorsement made real by Chaos fans including Scorpions’ guitarist, Rudolf Schenker. Stallone also designed another accessory not usually associated with hard-rocking axe-merchants, bikers or cinematic mercenaries: the Chaos Cufflinks, which add an air of danger to any sober suit. Like the pen, the Chaos Cufflinks found an audience that appreciated the mythos from medieval origins. His artistry has translated into objects d’art the mystical, magical ambience of a painting by Bosch, a gargoyle from Notre Dame. To complete a triumvirate of wearable Chaotic treasures, Sylvester Stallone and Montegrappa designed a Chaos Automatic Analogue Wristwatch. Hand-made in northern Italy, the Chaos timepiece is an ideal partner for the pen and the cufflinks that inspired it. Fashioned from a choice of silver or gold, the case is very striking, featuring the signature skull-andserpents motif, including a small, engraved skull on the winding crown. The case is fitted with a leather strap accented by contrasting edges, terminating in a buckle with the skull motif, while the dial features applied Roman numerals, suggesting the antiquity of the Middle Ages. The black, bilevel, brushed guilloché dial with luminous hands and date aperture at 3 O’clock is protected by a sapphire crystal. Within each forged sterling silver or 18k solid gold case beats a Swiss heart. Montegrappa has chosen one of the world’s most dependable automatic “engines” to power the Chaos, capturing the same ferocious spirit as the Chaos Pen.
