As for celebration, I’m proud to tell you that this year, LUXEis marking its 20th anniversary. A lot has changed over the last two decades, and with that, we are embarking on a year-long journey to refresh LUXE, bringing you more of the design excellence and inspiration you look for  in our pages, on luxesource.com, @luxemagazine on Instagram and in our design-obsessed communities across the country. Anniversaries are, in part, a time for remembering, and we honor our past. But my personal motto is “Always Looking Forward.”

With their latest collection, Icons II, Donghia taps its extraordinary archive once more to create updated iterations of founder Angelo Donghia’s original designs. The Crescent Chair and Ottoman, newly arrived in the company’s showrooms, is a celebration of his mastery of scale, tailoring, comfort and elegance. “The two-tier slipper chair became a staple in Angelo’s own decor as well as his clients’ homes,” explains Doug Garfinkle, who was named creative director shortly after the company

was purchased by Kravet in 2020. (Donghia founded his company in 1968 and was renowned as much for his business acumen as for his interiors, which brought such clients as Halston and Ralph Lauren.)

“Versatile and overstuffed, it came to embody and identify his style as luxurious, relaxed and distinctly American,” Garfinkle adds of the iconic design. ANTIQUE + ART SHOWS

Those chasing rare and historical home decor should bookmark January 9-13 for The Original Miami Beach Antique Show at the Miami Beach Convention Center. The nation’s largest indoor antique fair features 600 global dealers showcasing luxury timepieces, artwork, antique Georgian and Victorian furniture and more. Look forward to panels offering advice on collecting and styling. Art Palm Beach at the Palm Beach County Convention Center, January 22-26, will flaunt its largest and most diverse collection of international galleries yet. Contemporary and modern art connoisseurs will be wowed by over-the-top installations, such as a 30-foot-tall bear sculpture by Slovakian artist Viktor Frešo. It’s a momentous year for Miami landscape architect Raymond Jungles. Renowned for his lush residential and public gardens exuding native plants, Jungles is not only celebrating 40 years in business, but he’s also received the distinguished ASLA Design Medal by the American Society of Landscape Architects for his exceptional work. Below, Jungles shares more about his regarded career. @rjistudio

Congratulations on 40 years! What advice would you have given yourself at the beginning of your career?

I don’t think I would do anything differently. Well, I wish I didn’t work so much, but then I wouldn’t be where

I am now. I was able to achieve a lot of impactful work at an early age, which gave me a jump start on the kind of projects we do now as a company.

What’s exciting you in South Florida landscape design at the moment? I see more native plantings, along with more ecological thinking. We are currently working with ecologists to restore landscapes back to where they would have been before human intervention.

How do you envision residential landscape design in the area evolving over the next decade? I’m excited to see a growing number of gardens with native species that belong in South Florida. I’m also looking forward to seeing regulatory agencies become more open-minded so we can have richer environments and create habitats in areas that have been sterilized by human development.

Beloved for her neutral, tonal, collected interiors, Atlanta-based designer Beth Webb is a master craftswoman of peaceful environs, whether seaside, mountain top or in the heart of a city. And in no space is fostering a tranquil visual language more important than the bedroom—a cocooning place of retreat that’s squarely top of mind during this season of hibernation.

Webb’s distinct brand of quiet luxury is on proud display in her muchanticipated monograph, Embracing Beauty: Serene Spaces for Living (Rizzoli, February 2025), which promenades 14 magnificent homes from Florida to the Grand Tetons. Within its glossy pages, the designer subtly divulges the elements that, for her, compose a restful bedroom: soft palettes, gracious canopy beds trimmed with diaphanous drapery, richly textured

wall treatments, crisp Italian linens and a perch with patina to take in the views out the window.

Below, in an unpublished passage adapted exclusively for the pages of LUXE, the designer expounds on capturing the feeling of white (rather than the hue itself), and on the fundamentals that together make a home a sanctuary. Take a page from her design philosophy playbook in reimagining your own boudoir for a long winter’s nap.

The snowfall outside the window in Paris makes the city white in its body, white in its quiet. I wake early and sit in the lamplight, watching. This white. This quiet. How do we inhabit it? How do we maintain, in Stieglitz’s words, this “great white stillness?”

This is what I’m seeking: to enable us to live inside this sheltering. Sanctuary,

refuge—there are many names. “Embrace” speaks to this intimacy—to being sheltered and protected. When you are held by light, by space, by music, by a beloved, there can be a luminosity to embrace. There is an aura of refuge.

I studied fine art at university and, early in my career, visited the Florence Academy of Art, where they still taught in the tradition of 19th-century École des

Beaux-Arts academicians. They drew from life, down to the bones. They studied: line, material, proportion, placement, negative space, composition. My intention to this day is to apply that visual language of art to interiors. A room is an immersive composition. A key tool is light. In each of our projects, we start sculpting space with light. Our palette is quiet but always subtly tailored to the qualities of light in that landscape. East and west, mountain and coast, there is an intimacy of the interaction between light and color that we are very attentive to. At its best, it enables dissolution into quiet and contentment.

Within these serene interiors, detail enables discovery over time—all is not immediately revealed. When you study painting, you learn the value of negative space, of absence, of what is withheld. Like the work of the symbolist poets, it’s about allusion, not explication. “The ‘blanks’ indeed take on importance,” writes Mallarmé. It’s only upon closer

attention that one discovers the subtle shadings, the refinements, the textures. From the way the local light interacts with a palette—and how the subtlest difference in shade can transform the feeling of a space—to the touch of a textile so soft that it elicits an immediate sense of calm, a deeply attentive choreography of these elements enables the whole to be much more than the sum of its parts. It creates atmosphere. It creates sanctuary. And sanctuary is a form of embrace. When you imbue a home with warmth, welcome, charm and ease, it holds you in return—a room becomes a refuge, a house, a haven. As a designer, it is my life’s work to achieve this with each and every room. Materials Matter

It’s essential that the mattress companies I work with use natural materials. Spending eight hours a night with your face in something that’s full of harmful chemicals is not ideal. Lighting into the future is creative director Schuyler Sweet, a fourth-generation Boyd family member. The company was founded in San Francisco in 1921 and has more than a century of legacy under its belt, including creating the fixtures for the city’s famous Opera House in the ’30s. Since then, it has navigated changing design movements—Beaux Arts, Art Deco, midcentury modern—and countless innovations. That’s where Sweet comes in, with one eye on the past and one on the

future, with a goal to distill and finesse the Boyd DNA. “Every generation has their own philosophy,” he says. “My ethos is to bring Boyd back to its classic modern roots and add a levity to the brand.”

Boyd is now headquartered in Colorado, where everything is handmade to order. At the intersection of its aesthetic are materials like brass, bronze and copper— nonferrous, nonrusting materials that will stand the test of time—in silhouettes and shapes devoid of extraneous details. “Part of the challenge is making a really simple design,” says Sweet. “There’s elegance in simplicity.” The Ovalo pendant above embodies these principles: unadorned, hand-finished brass loops are suspended from the ceiling and illuminated by an LED light source. As for what’s to come this year, Schuyler hints at a move towards

femininity and softness, with glass having a noticeable presence. “Design is allowed to change with the times and reflect what is going on in the world—it’s a dialogue, a visual language.” boydlighting.com

Forging Ahead

HUBBARDTON FORGE

“When I first started at Hubbardton Forge 13 years ago, I didn’t have a job title,” says Andy Morter. “I was given a long leash to explore and tinker with materials and LEDs, which were changing the lighting landscape at the time.” Fast-forward to present day, and Morter, now design developer under the direction of VP of Design David Kitts, continues to experiment and take creative liberties, resulting in provocative creations like the Snaps collection, shown here and launching early this year.

The system’s leather straps, connecting LED modules that sit within alabaster discs, are fully customizable, giving interior designers the freedom to play with the configuration and positioning to create unique and bold installations. The fluid design is not necessarily inspired by a place or thing or era, but rather by the raw materials at hand. “It’s about the exploration of parts and pieces and bringing these materials and new technologies together,” says Morter.

The Vermont company’s goal is to build upon its storied foundation for everything created, from the newest leather Snaps collection to its iconic metal offerings. RTO LIGHTING

“I’m definitely the orchestra leader in our opera of sorts,” Robert True Ogden says of RTO Lighting, the company he founded 20 years ago and which has since grown to some 60 people. Departments dedicated to woodworking, ceramics and metalworking are filled with talented makers working alongside employees in logistics and prototyping to create pieces that sing.

At the beginning of Ogden’s career, crafting lights was a creative side gig that didn’t have the limitations of his day job, but he soon realized pursuing it full-time was far more fulfilling. Today, RTO Lighting is a craft-first company whose products are all handmade in its Philadelphia workshop, something Ogden feels immensely proud of as he oversees the artisans who put together each item.

“My hope is that, in having outstanding quality, these designs will be collected and passed down through generations,” he says.

Most recently, Ogden has come together with designer and owner of Fair showroom Brad Ford to launch their first lighting collaboration, the Alina Collection, comprising table, floor and pendant lights with beautiful hair-on-hide shades. Ogden was inspired after reading an article about leather tanning and some of the toxicities caused by the process, instead wanting to embrace the natural product as is. The makers love how the product turned out—cowlicks and all—with the RTO Lighting founder noting, “There’s a simplicity to the designs that celebrates form, function and materiality”. rtolighting.com; fair-design.com

Expert Opinion

When it comes to color and its effect on wellbeing, textile designer Lori Weitzner, a true expert on the subject, sums it up in two words: It’s personal. What feels calming or exhilarating to one individual might have the opposite eff ect for another. In her book Ode to Color , Weitzner has developed a test (which is also available online) that readers can take to learn which hues are best suited for them. The results are one of 10 unique “color worlds” composed of nuanced palettes for nuanced needs. Design is in the details, as evidenced by a thoughtful Pacific Northwest abode that celebrates natural light and timeless materials.

In the Pacific Northwest, Lisa Staton designed a kitchen for clients who wanted to infuse classic style throughout their home. Custom cabinets are painted Farrow & Ball’s Shaded White. The Wood Stone pizza oven is surrounded by Mutual Materials brick tile, and Woodbridge Furniture counter stools pull up to the island.

When remodeling this Washington home, designer Lisa Staton worked hard to ensure it didn’t read as “new,” channeling the old-world European charm her clients fell in love with during their travels. That aesthetic became the cornerstone for an update that created timeless rooms for work, play and relaxation. We asked Staton how she shaped some of the most significant spaces in the abode. lisastaton.com

How did you approach the kitchen? This part of the house is important because she is a cookbook author and wanted a beautiful place to work and photograph her culinary creations, and he enjoys roasting and brewing coffee. Residential designer Adair Orr of Armadillo Design Lab and I relocated the kitchen to the other side of the house to take advantage of the views. It is a workhorse room— cooking implements hang over the range within arm’s reach—but is also styled as an extension of the living spaces. Most of the appliances are hidden in the pantry, which keeps things airy and allows room to display items like serveware, plants and candlesticks. Perimeter cabinets are a soft white, the island is a natural wood tone, and both have traditional trim and marble counters.

Northwest Woodslayer fabricated the cabinets; the brass hardware and curved faucets are by Devol. A Thermador range is backed by custom vintage-looking tile the clients found in Portugal. Staton discovered the pair of antique pendants at Obsolete in Los Angeles.

Tell us about the coffee bar between the kitchen and dining room. My java-loving client wanted to make coffee while enjoying the sunshine in the kitchen, but we couldn’t find the right spot. Instead, we established a coffee bar in the passage between the two rooms and then surrounded it with interior windows that allow for plenty of light. The location is perfect for entertaining, as it permits him to easily serve guests a cup no matter where they are sitting. This dining room color is dreamy! We wanted it to be differentiated from the lighter colors in the kitchen. When you enter the dining room, there is this sense of reaching a retreat or destination as you are surrounded by inky color painted on paneled walls. How did you decide on the mix of pieces here? The clients owned this table but requested fully upholstered chairs to surround it, so we gave them comfortable seats covered in an old-school plaid textile. Scalloped bone-china shades on the pendants are new and add a fresh note. The wall sconces and the rug are vintage—older pieces add emotion to a room. Although we occasionally use online sources, I insist on visiting local and East Coast brick-and-mortar shops for antique and vintage pieces. It’s a practice that provides the kind of organic discovery an algorithm just can’t feed you.

What was the goal with this laundry room? Since the owners will be in this room a lot, why not make it as enjoyable as it is functional? We kept the original cabinetry but painted it a soft blush color. Adding butcher-block countertops was key, because the material is durable and attractive. I think it’s important that this utilitarian room be practical but also in keeping with the rest of the house. You could say the same for the vintage-inspired laundry rack and step stool. All these elements help the very modern washer and dryer live comfortably in a more traditional environment. The deep-green wall tile reflects the gorgeous Pacific Northwest colors you see outside the window and gives the space a relaxing feeling.

Green tile by Bedrosians echoes the colors in the landscape and adds a serene note to this working room. An LG washer and dryer are topped with John Boos butcher-block counters and joined by cabinetry painted Farrow & Ball’s Setting Plaster. An adjustable Devol laundry rack hangs above.

What were the considerations for the primary bathroom? One of the notable features in this room is the killer view. In order to not block the scenery more than necessary, we installed sweet café curtains that provide privacy but allow a look at the water, trees and distant mountains. The homeowner loves a soak, so a stand-alone tub was a necessity, and a pair of marble shelves provides a space for toiletries and candles. Their brackets, like the tub ller and taps, are unlacquered brass that will patina over time. Is the oor brick? This room seemed to call for a unique oor, something with an aged appearance. Brick was brie y

considered, but we opted for a tumbled marble eld tile the client discovered. It has a rosy hue, and it was masonry-like without being porous. When laid in a herringbone pattern, it certainly resembles brick. Tell us about hanging multiple light xtures over the tub. I was looking for something a bit more unexpected than a chandelier above the tub. The clients couldn’t pick just a single style of these handmade xtures, so we opted to use one of each, hung in a row at staggered heights. It’s something like a deconstructed chandelier, and you can appreciate their shapes as they dangle in front of a wall of simple white-hued tile.

What style is your firm most known for?

We have always prided ourselves on being able to apply modern ideas and standards of living to classical traditions and frameworks, yielding timeless designs that suit the distinct lifestyles of our clients. The projects that emerge from this process result in design solutions that range from intensely classical architecture to more modern and contemporary buildings.

What are some key influences?

Much of the basis for our work comes from the study of both classical architecture and the interpretations of it by our more modern forebears. We strive not to be swayed by today’s current trends, and instead are inspired by the timeless examples of taste and quality that have come before us.

Who and/or what inspires your work?

My design style is inspired by the history and culture of France and the timeless elegance of European architecture. Specific styles I admire include the work of Jean Royère, Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret. And when it comes to fashion, Christian Dior is my style icon.

How do you include the client in your creative process?

We work closely with each client to ensure that every element is carefully chosen to tell their unique story, creating a harmonious, collected look that reflects the narrative we craft together. What’s new?

Whether it’s working with a client’s existing collection, collaborating with advisers to help curate new collections or designing a room around a particular piece, we’re working more and more with art. Designer Eddie Lee first worked with Michelle and Cary Coltun in 2016 for their Jersey Shore residence—“their beachy moment,” as he calls it. Next, he says, came “their city moment”: an Upper East Side apartment with a modern, Art Decoinflected aesthetic. Then, after years spent visiting South Florida, the couple was ready for a new moment. “We wanted something comfortable and cozy but still sophisticated,” Michelle recounts— and, of course, they brought Lee along for the ride. Instead of the optic whites and stark modernism often seen in the area, this house would be softer and warmer, perfect for family gatherings but still suitable for entertaining—essentially, Lee says, “the tropical version of their Manhattan place.”

Another team of frequent collaborators, architect Benjamin Schreier and general contractor Scott Mustapick crafted the perfect backdrop for Lee’s interior design. “It’s transitional,” Schreier observes of the Jupiter residence, pointing to the columns with pared-down capitals framing the entry and raised center mass. At a single story, the structure “is efficient for Florida living,” Mustapick adds. Two wings flank the abode’s central portion—one for the primary suite, the den and a pair of guest rooms; the other for the kitchen, another guest suite and the loggia. “It’s designed to be multigenerational,” the architect explains. “Everyone can have their own space, and entertaining can go into the evening without disturbing anyone.”

The central mass holds the home’s heart: an expansive great room that includes the living and dining areas, bar and kitchen. “We wanted to keep it all consistent but for each space to have its own unique feeling,” Lee says. At one end, in the kitchen, a creamy white stone with golds and browns defines the walls and countertops. On the opposite side of the great room, a dark charcoal fireplace is surrounded with gold veining and framed by mirrored panels. “The monolithic nature of the fireplace pumps up the drama,” the designer muses. As visual anchors for the vast room, these materials—along with cream-colored flooring and the kitchen island’s ebonized oak base—set the stage for the charcoal, whiskey, soft white and warm metallic palette that unites the spaces.

Perhaps the most dramatic element of the great room is the 24-foot-tall ceiling above the living and dining areas—which amplifies that sophisticated vibe the clients desired but also made fulfilling their wish for coziness more challenging. Lee’s solution was to choose sculptural furnishings that fill the spaces. “They feel like art,” he says, pointing to the contemporary dining table composed of a pressed-glass top on a pair of faceted bases and the living area’s retro wing chair. The designer further imbued intimacy and comfort by weaving in luxurious texture: dining chairs in a Chanel-like tweed, a deeply tufted sofa, a pair of velvet-covered 1950s armchairs. This mix of textures plays into Lee’s design philosophy. “The best interiors are layered over time, like in an English country house, to make things more dynamic and exciting,” he muses. For this property, much like the Coltuns’ Manhattan home, the designer opted for vintage and antique pieces with midcentury and Art Deco styles. The 1960s glass side tables with tubular brass legs in the living area and an Italian sideboard of the same decade in the dining area bring mod and glam flair. Contemporary touches also have a throwback presence, such as the midcentury-like bar paneled in gleaming olive wood and the nearby settee. Not to be forgotten are the tropical details. “We nod to them without being overly cliche,” Lee says, noting the windows in the kitchen and primary bathroom that frame views of plantings by landscape architect Paul S. Catania, including palms and orchids. “The kitchen’s upper cabinets look like they’re floating due to the window backsplash,” the designer continues. The illusion of a lush jungle also underscores Cary’s request that the grounds feel natural and “not look like Edward Scissorhands.” Subtle palm motifs appear inside: The great room’s Murano chandeliers are composed of crystal leaves, the cheeky laundry room wallpaper features exotic birds and the mudroom boasts sherbet-hued walls.

Tropical yet sophisticated. Sexy yet comfortable. Dramatic yet cozy. “The house is a paradox,” Lee muses. And it’s perfect as the Coltuns’ Florida moment. “They send photos when they are there and say, ‘We’re back in our happy place, and it’s beyond what we imagined,’ ” he reports. “That’s the best kind of compliment.”

Waves of possibilities crashed through Colette van den Thillart’s mind when she first glimpsed the newly built apartment her longtime clients imagined as their South Florida getaway. What the designer saw was essentially a bare-bones white box, but so strong was her sense of what might be that she convinced the owners to swap their stories-high unit for a lower-level space—one van den Thillart believed would feel more connected with the adjacent expanse of beach and boardwalk without compromising the enviable sea views. They took her advice. And from there, she worked her magic on every last inch.

Although there were some parameters of the Bal Harbour condo the designer opted not to alter, others were natural opportunities for customization. Right from the get-go, she recognized the open living, dining and kitchen areas “had to become one seamless envelope if the space was going to look elevated,” van den Thillart says. To achieve this cohesive design, she created a fluted white plaster finish for the walls, which bend gently toward a vaulted ceiling—a nod to the historic arched ceilings of Rome, a city the owners adore and where they maintain a residence. The curves and organic nature of the plaster, paired with the ceiling’s swoops, are a pleasing counterpoint to the boxy layout and act as an art element—particularly as the sun scatters shadows along the lines and arcs. “This home essentially becomes an immersive James Turrell installation at different times of the day, which is really moving,” the designer muses.

Those fluted walls are more than just a beautiful backdrop: A subtle gap between the plaster paneling and ceiling serves as the air conditioning vent, a clever solution implemented by general contractor Jerry Rowland. He also engineered a pocketing flush door for the den off the main living space—when shut, the entry is essentially invisible—and a similar seamless door that closes

off the clients’ bedroom. “Most homes aren’t done up to the nines in every corner, but this one is,” Rowland observes. “No surface was left untouched.”

The treatments become more adventurous in the apartment’s smaller spaces, from a geometric patchwork of wood paneling that cocoons the den to the striking Arabescato marble that clads so much of the primary bathroom, it reads as a celebration of the material itself. Then there are moments like the foyer’s moody mix of marble and the primary bedroom’s pairing of verre églomisé mirror with walnut for the headboard wall. The latter felt like a risk, the designer admits, but it paid off richly, drawing in the broad expanse of the Atlantic and the sky with just the right amount of glamour.

Notably, and perhaps unexpectedly for a Miami residence, bold artwork isn’t the thrust of the unit’s design scheme. “These clients are coming here for escapism, and the wife specifically told me, ‘I don’t want powerful art; I just want serenity and the ocean,’ ” van den Thillart recalls. So as elegantly appointed as the interior architecture treatments are, they’re still subservient to the panoramic ocean vistas, framed by floor-to-ceiling swaths of glass. “The beauty is in the materials and their execution,” the designer says. “It had to be a little couture.” Bespoke furnishings also stand in as art pieces, she explains, pointing out the dining table’s sculptural base, beset with playful cutouts that pay homage to the city’s beloved midcentury modernist architecture style.

Despite the vibrancy of the neighborhood, there was an effort to create a relaxing home that references the locale in a subtler fashion. The result has “enough of a cool factor that it feels right in Miami, with none of the cliches,” van den Thillart remarks. “I’d like to think I captured the essence of the location and some sort of free zone between the past and future.” In the end, she—and her discerning clients—are incredibly pleased with the results, the designer affirms. “I think we did something here that is contemporary but also gentle, soulful, even poetic,” she says.

The breezy coast of South Florida called to a Connecticut family, drawn to the area for warm, sunny vacations. They acquired a midcentury residence just one block away from the ocean, and this close proximity provided all the beachy ambience they desired for their retreat. “The wife didn’t want your typical coastal home,” designer Lisa Hynes emphasizes. “She wanted something cool, funky and youthful—something with an edge.” These characteristics inspired a distinct look, adds her business partner, designer Heather Weisz: “We called it, ‘Palm Beach Modern Coastal.’ ”

The historic nature of the ranch-style structure, constructed in 1969, required the front façade be preserved, but the interior was free to be renovated into a bright, updated dwelling. Residential designer Yianni Varnava, with his firm’s Mauricio Caro as architect of record, reimagined the layout to include discrete spaces such as a laundry room while dissolving some of the segregation. “The kitchen and living area are now combined in an open space, so it has a more contemporary feeling,” Varnava observes. “We also modified the truss system to allow for taller ceilings, which are now around 11- or 12-feet high.” This additional height gave the designers room to crown spaces with dramatic fixtures that honor the couple’s preference for glass and metal, like the mesh-wrapped globes in the dining area and chain-link glass pendants in the breakfast nook. “Every room has lighting that is special,” Hynes says. “Each one is a statement piece, but they all interact and work well together.”

An array of glass spheres, for instance, illuminates the streamlined “ ‘non-kitchen’ kitchen,” as Weisz describes of the space that feels more like an extension of the living area than a cooking zone, boasting veined marble, integrated hardware and touch-latch doors. “We wanted the materials and lighting to come to the forefront, so we kept the cabinetry minimal and sleek.”

When it came to colors, the designers cultivated a palette that mixes deep tones with “iterations of neutrals,” Weisz describes, noting creams and whites. Touches of black make sleek appearances, as does a thoughtful curation of blues that defy the beachy trope. “The colors are saturated and

intense,” she notes. “They’re not soft coastal or navy; they feel a little electrified.” The look is established in the entry with a blue patterned rug, wavy-framed mirror and light wood console, backed by an ivory wallcovering. “We wanted to pack a punch,” Hynes says. “When you open the door, the goal was to create a moment of relaxation but also a ‘wow’ factor.”

The entry extends to the living area, where the duo introduced organic forms and soft textiles to balance cooler hues and materials, a strategy that runs throughout the home. “There is no shortage of delicious-feeling fabrics and textures in this house,” Hynes says, pointing to the living area’s bouclé armchair, sectional with rounded arms and surfboard-shaped concrete coffee table. This tactility is paired with eye-catching earth tones, showcased in a guest bedroom with shades of green and a guest bathroom shrouded in magnificent slabs of multihued striped onyx with matte-white plumbing. “That’s not something you see every day,” acknowledges the project’s builder, Frank Lyons.

Another bathroom presents a cheeky surprise with “Surf Naked” spelled in a shower wall of tiles that mimic beach glass. (“God bless these trusting clients—they thought it was so cool,” Weisz recalls with a laugh. “What a fun statement.”)

The primary suite, meanwhile, takes a sexy turn with an edgy black-and-white palette, including a headboard wall of charred black oak. “It feels dynamic, youthful, rock ’n’ roll,” she muses.

In a home where unexpected delight awaits behind each door, the team ensured every space accommodates effortless gatherings, no matter the setting, and includes practical details designed for ease and convenience. The den is a cozy venue for watching television thanks to a generously sized sectional with cascading arms. The whimsical breakfast nook—consisting of a table surrounded by a banquette and four chairs, each a different shade of blue—doubles as a spot for board games. And the family’s four children drove the design of a bunk room that sleeps four, integrates USB ports in the nightstands and has hidden storage. No functionality detail was too small; even the kitchen backsplash slides open to reveal a spice cache. “We made sure there was a place for everything,” Hynes summarizes. “This home is beautiful and livable.” And not conventionally coastal.

Kravet fabric covers the living area’s sectional by Shelby-Parker, joining Cuff Studio’s Channel chair on an Art + Loom rug. Draperies by Marquis Design Group line the windows. The design team chose Bradley coffee and dining tables, the latter beneath Konekt pendants.
