ABOUT LUTHER Luther College High School is a historical independent high school offering grades 9-12. Located in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, Luther College High School is recognized as one of the best university preparatory schools in western Canada.

Our history began in 1913, and our legacy continues today.

The high school is set on 27 acres in an urban setting close to the city centre, shopping malls, and walking and bike paths.

Luther College High School cares for the development of the whole person– social, emotional, intellectual, physical and spiritual.

Graduates are well-prepared to become leaders as caring, ethical, critically engaged citizens. We value excellence in teaching and care for our students as individuals in the community.

Luther College provides a Christian context in which students learn and grow. Students admitted to Luther College are not required to be Lutheran or Christian. We welcome students from all faith backgrounds and encourage students to explore the meaning of faith and commitment in their own lives while studying in a richly diverse environment.

Luther College High School adheres to the Government of Saskatchewan curricula and also offers the prestigious International Baccalaureate (IB) program.

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE Luther College High School is a place where students can be proud of their academic success. High academic standards and a dedicated teaching staff challenge students to excel. Moreover, student successes are celebrated by teachers and peers alike.

As many as 96% of Luther graduates pursue post-secondary educations. Luther graduates have gone on to universities such as Harvard, Oxford, University of Toronto, McGill, Queen’s and other renowned educational institutions throughout Canada, North America and the world.

Luther College High School alumni also receive international academic recognition. Two Nobel prize winners and five Rhodes Scholars attended Luther College for their high school education.

GLOBAL COMMUNITY Luther students, even those from diverse social and cultural backgrounds, are part of a tightly woven community of students, parents, alumni, teachers and staff.

Approximately 13% of our students come from countries outside of Canada.

Luther College High School affirms the significance of respecting and embracing the cultures of other people. Our diversity broadens students’ perception of the world, preparing them to take their place in the "global village" of their future.

DORM LIFE

LIVE & LEARN International students are required to live in Luther’s dormitories.

Luther College dormitory students benefit from being part of a small, safe and close-knit residence community which enables students to grow both personally and in relationship with others.

The dormitory program stresses respect for yourself and others. Dorm students grow to be mature, independent, responsible and self-disciplined young people. Dorm rooms are double occupancy and come fully furnished. Meals and snacks are provided in the Luther College cafeteria, which offers students a range of healthy and nutritional food choices.

Safety and adult supervision are key considerations in our dorm program.

A dean of men, a dean of women and several assistant deans guide and supervise dorm students. The deans serve as positive role models, supervisors, and confidant(e)s. A school nurse is also available to students. The dorm program offers a structured schedule with curfews, study and recreation times. There are many social activities for students such as movie nights, karaoke nights, game nights, special meals and much more.

Upon arriving in Regina, international students must apply for a health care card in order to receive basic health care services free of cost. Coverage is in effect according to the date on a student’s study permit. In addition, Luther College has a school nurse who is available weekday mornings and attends to any health concerns or problems.

CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES Luther has a rich history of dynamic athletics, fine arts, and other co-curricular activities.

Co-curricular activities form an important part of a student’s education at Luther because they contribute to the development of the whole person.

CITY OF REGINA Regina not only offers many cultural and sporting events, but also features Wascana Park, the largest urban park in North America. Regina is also home to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police training depot and heritage centre.

International students will experience four distinct seasons while living in Regina. Winter is cold and snowy, summer is hot and dry while spring and fall are more moderate. Weather is not a major concern for international students who live at Luther College because all of the buildings are connected.

Students can easily access the city transit system at a bus stop across the street from the high school and taxis are readily available within the city. On designated days, students are provided with free transportation from the airport to Luther College. Students arriving ahead of time or late arrivals should coordinate their own transportation to the school.

ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE Luther College High School offers one of the most supportive and unique high school ESL programs in North America.

The objective of ESL at Luther College High School is to ensure students have the requisite comprehension of the English language needed for post-secondary studies at a North American institution.

The ESL program at Luther uses a three-step approach that helps to move our students from communicative confidence to autonomous learning.

The ESL program offers one-onone support and integration into regular classes.

on that assessment, students are placed in the appropriate level of ESL and mainstream classes.

The expectations are designed to prepare students for success at the post-secondary institution of their choice.

Students who test at the beginner level cannot be accepted into Luther College. These students lack the requisite skills required to be successful at Luther. Intermediate level ESL students must take to grade 9 level courses.

The application deadline is March 1. Space is limited and students are encouraged to apply early.
